What TV Shows Are You Watching?

Has anyone watched The Gilded Age? It's a Julian Fellowes show in the vein of Downton Abbey and Gosford Park but set in the 19th century. It's not on any of my streaming services so I lost track of it.

Just power watched the whole of SAS Rogue Heroes over the last day and a half. Really fantastic and a great soundtrack. If you like WW2 stuff or just action war tv in general definitely give it a watch.

I’ve lost interest in watching stuff this past month, but I am looking forward to Slow Horses S3 coming out soon.

I'm watching Taste of a Nation with Padma Lakshmi. I didn't know she had a second season. The second one is more about culture than about hitting the kitchen making food or going out foraging/harvesting. The Ukrainian one set in New York is an advert for the war.

I finished Baby on Netflix. It took awhile to get through 3 seasons mainly because the pacing of the story is so uneven. I was hoping for a solution where the bad guy goes to jail and everyone else is spared but it's 50% happy endings and 50% of the people are in jail and/or heartbroken.

Finally finished the series finale of Ted Lasso. The final episode was a supersized and predictable long goodbye. I almost thought it would have ended better with the opening scene where they are all hung over at the breakfast counter.

The airport scene seemed totally unnecessary. Coach Beard could have just told Lasso he isn't going back to Kansas. And what's the point of Rebecca buying a ticket to say goodbye to Lasso when they have been doing it repeatedly throughout the one hour plus episode.

Also why was Rupert going to lose control of West Ham? Because of the Super League? Other owners were at the table too.

I thought Nate was going to return as manager but I guess they wanted to bake in a humility be happy with what you have story.

And what happened to the doctor guy at Lasso's Kansas house? Lasso's wife ditched him because he had no interest in footy?

Anyway. I also finished the final episode of Invasion. The last episode unites all the story threads together but it took 9 episodes and the one I was interested in, the Golshifteh one, ended up being glossed over. Apple must have a lot of money to film all these on site but the series has some severe pacing issues and I don't know if an unlimited war chest will save the series.

Slow Horses S3 is on point. I am impatiently waiting for new eps now, having watched the first two twice already.

What’s the comedic value in that?

Love trumps (loads of) money.

Improper behavior (sexual harassment) scandal with former assistant.

Yes. No chemistry. And didn’t show enough empathy with the kid.

I caught the first episode of this lastnight and I actually enjoyed it. It’s a big dumb action story full of nudity and drugs that doesn’t take itself seriously at all.

I would have checked it out if you didn't include the poster. Now I think I'm going to lose 40 minutes of my life which I will never get back.

We already know how much time you waste watching and listening to garbage. You will enjoy this one.

I'm starting to watch Suburra Eterna. I've been watching since the first season and it's amazing how this show can continue given how many characters it kills off. They had to invent 4 new characters and a new small time family in Ostia who knew Spadino and the Anaclettis as kids and give them motivation to be involved in the new story. In the first episode there's already another known character from prior seasons killed off.

It looks like they expect Spadino and Cingalia to carry the show themselves as Angelina and Nadia are so far more bit players.

I'm also unsure anyone who just jumps into this series would understand it without watching the previous seasons.

Finally finished it and it was hilariously dumb and fun. The female lead is only nude in the first ep, sadly (she had the face of someone carrying a lot more weight than is on her body). Lots of sex, drugs, jump cuts and action. 8.0/10

Morning Show. The 2020 throwback episode until 6th January was uncomfortable. People randomly going to bars and getting ostracize. Masks. Restrictions. Quarantine. Giving Tylenol as the only remedy for coronavirus.

tried to give episode 1 a watch last night. this is awful.

The remaining episodes of The Crown season 6 have been released. That was weird. It was a month from the previous release. I thought they'd do another multi-month split into 2024 to milk as much as they can.

I finished watching Suburra Eterna. I said earlier - oh we already started killing off the final characters from previous seasons. At the end of it I didn't think the show made much progress in resolving (aka killing) any of the new or existing characters.

Basically the Cingalia+Spadino+Nascari side are still against the Ercole+Luciani+Tronto trio (city hall+muscle+church). Between these two camps some people switch sides (Miria the chief of staff to the mayor, or Nadia the old girlfriend of Aureliano) and very few die except some of the muscle. Angelica gets reduced to a confused housewife who is bounced between her ex husband and current husband. God knows how many bullets these Luciani fish monger siblings can take in the abdomen and miraculously get healed by some doctor who is never seen on screen.

The final episode (and death) which you could see from 1000km away suspiciously suggests there is another season.

The cinematography is great though.

Slow Horses S3 delivered (again) 10/10

I’d never thought of it as an action series, but there was a lot more shooting and fight scenes in this one. And oh man was it beautifully paced and produced.

The storyline is getting a bit ott and the Slow Horses aren’t believable as the rejects after so much winning, but that doesn’t detract from the entertainment.

Sleeping Dog, Blood Coast or The Golden Hour for an upcoming flight?

It amazes me that this spectacular gem is unknown among many. I guess being saddled on the awful and pitiful Apple TV doesn't help its cause.

I finished watching Special Ops: Lioness. It's 8 episodes following a CIA black ops group that tracks down an Arab financier of terror activities. The Lioness is the woman operative they train. In this case it's an abused woman who turned to the Marines. Laysla De Oliveira pretends she's Arab (I guess Brasilian people look like Arab people?) and infiltrates through the target's free spending daughter to get close and terminate the target.

There were some good action scenes. They spent a lot of money on casting. Morgan Freeman only comes on in the last two episodes as Secretary of State. Michael Kelly does his usual Michael Kelly thing from House of Cards. Nicole Kidman starts out as that shadowy figure in the background, and turns into a woman hell bent on stopping the next incarnation of ISIS. Zoe Saldana has the most screen time as the show covers her family and the impacts of working a clandestine job on her two daughters and husband.

I thought the show ended pretty abruptly. De Oliveira and Saldana get into a fight because she feels she was used and started getting attached to the target's daughter. And then the show just ends with Saldana reuniting with her family. Nobody really knows what happens to the other folks but who cares(?)
All Taylor Sheridan's shows should really be avoided. He has spread himself so thin with so many shows with interesting premises but all jump the shark

Agreed they’re all pretty crap now. Bass reeves was a letdown by the end sadly.

I hate you. I watched this in its entirety based on your recommendation. As I was stuck at the station for a couple of hours.

Inarguably the worst thing I have seen in the past twenty years. The lead had an ass to appreciate though.

I tried to warn you

Yeh, he hated it so much he binge watched the entire series in all of its glorious dumbness 😁
I like to finish;)

Anyhow, I followed 'glorious dumbness' with another one of its ilk, 'Reacher'. Dear Lord, the Reacher guy is a terrible wooden actor but it's mindless amusement so far

It’s a good fun watch. You just have think of him as a military terminator bad ass crossed with a rail car hopping hobo.

I finished "I Hate Christmas" season 2 (Odio il Natale).

I've never watched the Norwegian version but people said the original season was a like for like copy. I think this one was better. It's more about Gianna always worrying and sacrificing herself (especially as a nurse) to please others and never figuring out to please herself and find someone that complements her. The first season was just her going out with weird men to find a man to sit with at the Christmas family gathering to prove she isn't hopelessly single. You can see the ending from a mile away between Gianna and Filippo.

Pilar Fogliati had bangs this season. No idea why. She looks worse in them. The show needed more of Beatrice Arnera. She seems pretty crazy if you check her Instagram.

Did anyone watch Halston? I thought it was new so I added it to my list. I read somewhere it was Ewan MacGregor finally taking on a role that didn’t involve a Star Wars or him cast as a bearded hermit so he could show how handsome he is.

I’m finally on the last episode. Bill Pullman comes off as pretty well. Aged appropriately. I didn’t even know that was Vera Farmigia until I poked on Google about the movie. Then I found out it’s a biopic.

However I have seen enough of various men bending over and taking it.

Thought it was good, not great, interesting insight into an interesting time in the rag trade.

It seems rather predictable. Outsider finds fame, fame gets to him, ditches all his friends, ... I can see the ending coming.

I didn't even know it was a real brand, but I knew Calvin Klein is (or was..I don't know how many of these 80 year olds are still doing the job).
