What TV Shows Are You Watching?

I started Strange New Worlds with Cpt. Pike on the Enterprise and it is really good so far.
I just finished this one and it was really good. I was impressed at how they blended elements of the original series with the 21st century zeitgeist.

I finished Emily in Paris. Cinematography is an advertisement for the tourism agency in Paris. I actually started it on Christmas Day when I fixed my Netflix account on my aunt's television until after three episodes the kids took over her television when I went to open another bottle of wine. I guess 14 year old boys and 10 year old girls are not the demographic.

I'm really not liking the bangs on Lily Collins. They said she had 47 outfits to wow people and I'm not quite sure she needed all of them. When does she go out exercising like season 1? Sylvie whom I always depended on for fashionable age appropriate attire started veering way off like when she was visiting a injured Pierre in episode 8.

A bunch of the characters seem to have receded to the background like Emily's two co-workers. Even Gabriel was a bit actor in the first few episodes but I guess they needed the screen time to create male romantic interest foils in Alfie and Mindy's boyfriend(s) before the love triangle comes back.

I would have loved to see more lesbian screen time with Melia Kreiling's character or the bisexual Marine Sansily character.

Jack Ryan Season 3. Not sure when they filmed this but a militant Russia threatening Eastern European nations seems like an allegory to the present. Ryan's wife or girlfriend or whomever they wrote her up in this series is gone which means most of the series is in the field. The Greer character in this series is written as a Muslim and at one point is doing shots of vodka with a villain. I get he was posted in Moscow before but all the references about him praying and the beads are all gone. It looks like Amazon spent a lot of money on this. Of course the US wins at the end.

The Recruit. I didn't really know what to expect from this but the lead character is supposed to be a lawyer for the CIA. Do lawyers train at The Farm too? He gets his fingernails pulled off with pliers and then springs back into action with a bandage. It's supposed to be a mixture of comedy and action where the Owen Hendricks character keeps thinking he has a desk job and then gets new suits ruined every time he goes on assignment. He also lives with two roommates one of whom is his ex who is the daughter of a rich lobbyist. The Russian asset he is helping is a British actress. Campy but the rest of the supporting cast is pretty good. Kaylah Zander as the mature work girlfriend is nice but what is LatinX?

I finally finished Andor. That was long. That whole side story about the prison seemed almost unnecessary to me. Cassian Andor is a leader and a tough guy - I don't know if I really needed a multi episode arc to understand that.

The Skarsgard character is basically fomenting a war/rebellion using, in his own admission, the tactics of his enemy. Mon Mothma agrees to prostitute her daughter to launder money. At the end of the day, I came away with the same feeling as Rogue One - what is the difference between the "good" guys and the empire?

I was hoping that ISB woman would get lynched.

That final battle scene reminded me a lot of Les Miserables.

I finished two seasons of An Astrological Guide for Broken Hearts on Netflix or Guida astrologica per cuori infranti

Claudia Gusmano is born in 1985 but looks really young (plus or minus some sun spots with the 4K video). Ironically her male romantic counterparts are all younger. It's a funny series and I don't put any stock into astrology but the premise gives her a vocation, a trusted sidekick friend and some happy go luck moments.

5 Irish sisters live their close knit lives drinking, jumping into cold water and dealing with relationships. 4 of the 5 HATE the husband of the 5th. I mean, they hate him!

He is rude to his wife/daughter....speaks down to the sisters....and is generally a not so good bloke.

It gets to the point that the 4 want to kill him! But how?

Do take the time to watch this 10 episode drama/comedy co produced, written and starring the brilliant Sharon Horgan(I first got hip to her on the show Catastrophe...which she also co produced and wrote.)

The rest of the supporting cast is also very good.

I actually started this months ago and didn't get past ep 1.....only because I was distracted. I started it again a few days ago after seeing a review and loved it! One of the best series that I have finished in a while!

(Plus a pretty solid soundtrack!)

4.75 of 5!

Caught this 4 part documentary today.

This documentary follows the rise and fall of Bernard Madoff before and after committing the largest Ponzi scheme in the history of Wall Street.

Most of the key players are interviewed in this series. Very interesting to see/hear some of the background details of this tale.

Worth a watch.

4/5.

What is this infatuation with watching The Last Of Us? It's a television show based on a video game that apparently copies exact lines from the video game dialogue. A mate of mine asked me whether I kept this local streaming account active just to see it (I had used it for the Friends Reunion for a month).

Have you watched it yet? I’m waiting for more eps to build-up first. Same with the Anne Rice witches thing.

I’m trying to finish off Picard S2 now. It’s still funny to hear the non-PG language in the new Star Trek universe. Even in the socialist future, Federation officers still say ‘fuck’ and call people bastards.

picard really sucks. i just finished my rewatch of TNG and DS9. DS9 definitely vaulted into first place for me which was a surprise. Tried Voyager but really just can't get into it.

yeah i caught it on streaming. i think they did a good job with episode 1 but it'll probably be a lot of backstory and setup on how things went to shit so badly.

I’m enjoying Picard, but it could have been much better.

Found this today and am currently starting ep 4...of 10.

A Norwegian girl and 2 Israeli friends are on vacation in the Sinai desert. They are enjoying some sun and fun.....until they are kidnapped by ISIS!

What does ISIS want? They want the release of 13 ISIS compadres....1 of which is in jail in Norway.

The mother of the girl from Norway is a diplomat and has contacts so she immediately heads to the region to try to get her daughter back. She pushes old friends to help her......by any means necessary!

Can't provide a full review as I am only on ep 4. What I do like so far is that each ep is only around 30 minutes.

This has potential!

Anyone here watch Yellowstone? Is it worth the investment?

Is it Like Longmire? I did enjoy that one.

Fauda S4 just dropped. I’m only about 20 minutes into ep1 but so far it is on point again. Absolutely compelling propaganda.

Just finished. Slighly over the top (both in reality warping as well as propaganda), but really good suspenseful fun throughout
it is over the top and of course is slanted. But it is well done enough to overcome that. Every Arab should know Doran by now.

The double agent who interrogated Gabi had a cool M65 style field jacket with a mouton collar.

Watched episode 1 the other night. Much better than I expected.

I haven‘t heard that name forever and immediately thought of this amusing summary of the case: http://longorshortcapital.com/doing-diligence.htm

I finished this 7 part series recently.

A NYC family(Naomi Watts, Bobby Cannavale, daughter and son) wants to escape the city so they purchase their dream house in the suburbs of NJ.

They start to receive anonymous letters that scare the bejesus out of them! The cops can't solve the riddle so they also enlist a private investigator. Everyone is a suspect and they all seem to have a motive. They follow the trail...which leads in various directions.

The family tries to fight back and the marriage and family breaks down. Options? Sell the house at a loss. Was the the endgame from the beginning?

I must say that the first 6 eps were very watchable. The finale........

I did keep watching so that I could see what the outcome was. Apparently this was used on a true story.

2/5....could have been better!

I hated it. But they are making a second season, so someone out there liked it.

I started Treason last night, hoping for some classic Le Carre style Brit spy drama. Unfortunately, it utterly fails in the tradecraft and believability fields. It’s a complex plot of different sides all dealing and double crossing each other, but I doubt I’ll make it to the end. It’s just a bit too implausible and ridiculous for me.

But it has Oona Chaplin!

I started The Devil’s Hour lastnight. I’m still very confused about what is going on but it is very good. Two eps in and safe to say that this is a solid recommendation for anyone looking for a compelling dark mystery full of well developed characters.

Apple_TV_Loot_key_art_main_16_9.jpg

Started this on Apple TV earlier in the week.

Maya R divorces her husband of 20 years after she catches him cheating. She now has to figure out what to do with herself, and her $87 BILLION dollar settlement!

She finds out that she has a foundation and starts to engage in order to attempt to make herself and the world better.

Yes...it is a comedy/sometimes serious 10 part series. Someone recommended this to me so I will see it to the end.

(This is a take on Jeff Bezos, and his ex wife, Mackenzie...of Amazon fame.)

No rating at this point.
