The color WWII-era (and earlier ones) continue to blow my mind. Through various sources, one "knows" that the 60s existed in color, but prior to that it is almost jarring to see "old" photographs in color - almost to the point of subliminally believing that life existed in black and white.

Obviously that's folly, but it's just so striking to see color photographs from about 1950 and prior. It makes the scenes almost more relatable, if that makes any sense.
