So there is a WAYWRN composite thread on SF (run by me) of fits with 20 thumb minimums. Obviously thumb doesn't necessarily equate to quality, but as a method of mass curation, it's the most objective one we have.

Anyway, there are quite a few fits that make the minimum each week with a variety of styles (and for a variety of reasons...fit quality, photo quality, member showing rapid improvement, cult of personality, etc). I asked the same of members over there, but I'm curious about what some of y'all think. Especially those who are from the FNB School of Fine Shit-talking.

So, what are your top 5 fits/pictures (or really top whatever the fuck you feel like).

This is relevant to my interests. I will have to peruse and comment later.

I'm wearing a crotch cape in all of mine.
people point to JFK going hatless at his inauguration as the start of civilization's decline, but I think it started when codpieces stopped being de rigeur.

Ted Kennedy regularly wore codpieces. It's how he survived so long.

lolwut. What do you do with a five head and fat neck? Extreme cutaway collar of course, for the positives must be accentuated at all costs. Provided we are in level 2 of Tegmark's multiverse where no neck and extreme five (or perhaps six) head is presumed to be ideal. In case we come across people who so bereft of perception the eight head is missed, cuffs are added to reinforce the lack of leg length/head size ratio (known as Foo-itis), along with elf shoe monk straps. Pinnacle of short fat body type reinforcement.

I suspect 17 of the 25 thumbs up are because the tie matches the yamaka. Details, baby.

Let me take a moment to advocate for the immediate vaporization of Taylorstav. I like the suit, but his facial hair is too light and wispy to carry such a strong color and silhouette, it betrays his callow youth. the pose is pure validation-seeking neediness. at least stitch stands upright despite his stubby legs. and that ring - the ring makes him a good candidate for a pass-around at the local lock-up.

There is a very disturbing undercurrent in that picture. Like a writer for Maxim magazine meets Shia LeBouf. Creepy. I can smell the Axe body spray through my computer monitor.

...and people thumbed it.

he's come a long way, let's be honest. but yeah, a lot of those thumbs are pure reciprocity.

I almost wrote that. He has come a long way. Its like a 350 pounder dropping 100 of them. He's still fat, just less fat.

Maybe so, but someone needs to explain the visual effect of both extreme cutaway collars and cuffs. SF is a haven of "Oh these are the new hotness" as opposed to "does this work for me?"

I suspect if it wasn't Mr. 50,000 posts and counting, there might have been more said. I think people shrugged and said good enough.

That shirt's pattern doesn't work either. He also has an excessively round body and dopey posture. Its very hard to make something look good on that figure. In terms of the neck cheese, ya, the cutaway just shines a spotlight on it.

I feel like posture could be eliminated from that sentence and it would be equally accurate, if not grammatically correct.

I think they're different characteristics. Someone can be chubby and hold their body strait, he has both evils which accentuates each distinct flaw.

I was sort of hoping for a greater focus on clothes and a little less on shit talk. Not that I don't mind a bit of shit talking.

Stitchy has also gotten really good at buying. I think this is a really under appreciated aspect of dressing oneself--way too many people buy crap on a regular basis. I suspect many of his thumbs come from the quality of what he wears. I'm not a fan of that shirt (bordered stripes?) but that suit is sublime and earned my thumb.

Sublime? The cuffs make him look like someone sawed off his fucking legs at the shin!

To be good at buying clothes requires buying clothes that flatter you. I honestly haven't looked at any other of his pictures, he may be Gianni Agnelli in all the others, but that one made me quit scrolling down immediately out of incredulousness.

Not sure I understand the cuffs comment. I'm not a fan of cuffs in general (I think they look best with no break, and I dislike no break on my pants). But his choice to cuff doesn't reflect on the quality of the suit. That fabric is very tasty.

Given his body shape, he'll need to go bespoke. As someone mentioned upthread, he's got a shape that's hard to work with.

A more typical fit:

LL

What generally kills it for me is the combination of wide hips, big feet, and a narrow leg opening. Gives it an unbalanced look. Others seem not to mind, though I know he's going for a little less taper in the future.

I'm going to post the fit so we can judge it here. I'm more critical of the pants fit. Although I don't know if its the pants or the inverted knees. I don't like that diaper sack at the front. The jacket fits ok.

The cuffs have nothing to do with the quality of the suit, they have to do with the quality of the suit on him. It's simple proportion. It makes him look dumpier than he already is. And as noted, the knee lockout is inane. And what is he looking at to the left?

Honestly, most iGents who pose for pictures are going to look like assholes, there's not much getting around that. The self consciousness and need for acceptance are qualities of the species.

This is why I generally make sure my face is out of the frame. It gives the impression of clothing without the asshole inside ^_^

Were it not for Spoo, he would be well and truly fucked.
He lives close enough to New York that he could shop there. And I suspect DC has some decent places to buy clothes. It's not like he's living in Iowa or anything.

Did Spoo vouch for him when he first arrived and started posting up a storm?

and to get this back on track. My favorites from that thread (being really picky here)

I'm in several of my favorite fits. This isn't because I am necessarily an amazing dresser, or as good as many others in that set, but my taste obviously appeals to me, and I've gotten to the point where I look like I want to look (meaning that I had a clear direction and the means to explore it), so yeah, often it's a pretty good example of what I like.

I'll leave all Spoo talk to Doom.

BTW - this is good material for the inane thread.

Okay, stitch started posting up a storm in DT's but decided that he wanted to play with the big boys in MC. So he started posting fit pics - some of them were plainly awful, and - I surmise - on a budget. He got a pretty soft treatment from various members, and Spoo more or less took him under his wing. Spoo is a sharp dresser, but more importantly he runs a top-drawer resale business (aside: every interaction I've had with Spoo has shown him to be a good guy). So Spoo told him what to pair with what, and likely cut him a good deal in the process.

So, about this thread. I can't look at a picture without getting the context and member's identity involved in my judgement. For instance, I think DerekS is a good guy and am more likely to dig his outfits than Foo. Derek is also lucky to be slim and a bit carefree which is absolutely critical in looking good in clothes. Foo, OTOH, is small and visibly uptight, both of which work against him.

Additionally, the face and hair are critical in determining if an outfit works, because as with Taylorstav, the suit wears him. An otherwise sound outfit fails miserably on the wrong person, and not everyone can wear everything, even the classic pieces.

If you're wearing a DB - you fucking shave. If you want to sport the facial hair (and have a lot of it), wear tweed.

One of my favorites is the one from Malford of London, that tie is nice!

Under his wing? Meh. Economic opportunity. No shame in earning $ off of him, and the integrity of the forum is not Spoo's problem.

Stitch should have been moderated. He wasn't.

I believe he gives him luxe items at or near cost. He also flew him to a meetup in Georgia.
