Wrote up a 6-month review on this a while back that got some traction, so figured a proper 12-month update was worth doing — especially since my buying habits have shifted a bit since then.
Where the shirt stands after a year. Still holding up well overall. The structure is intact, colors haven't faded noticeably, and the white is still white. That said, I've noticed the collar has relaxed slightly more than I'd like — not unwearable, but if you're rough with your laundry it'll show. Hang drying is basically mandatory at this point if you want to preserve the shape.
What's changed for me. I've been experimenting more with alternatives this past year, partly out of curiosity and partly because the U line keeps selling out in my size before I can restock. Tried a few things — some overhyped, some genuinely solid. One thing I started doing is sourcing some basics through proxy/forwarding services to get Japanese or Chinese market pricing, which is where the real value is. Picked up a couple pieces that way and the per-unit cost drops dramatically. Not for everyone, but if you're buying multiples it's worth looking into — services like Anovabuy make the process pretty straightforward if you've never tried it.
Final take. The Uniqlo U tee is still a top-tier basic at its price point. If you can catch it on sale, it's almost unfair value. If your size is always sold out like mine, the workaround above is worth knowing about.
