I found 8 factories in NYC to make samples. This is what they made.

Not sure if this falls under some other thread, but I wanted to share an experiment I had as I was designing/making pants.

The project of designing and making pants had been something I worked on and off (mostly off, considering my job consisted of a lot of travel) for a number of years. In fact, when I started I worked with Hertling when Julie and Joe still ran the shop. So naturally, if I ever got the project done to my satisfaction, I would have Hertling make the pants. They were good, inexpensive, and supplied everything (fabric, trim, etc.).

Well, Hertling is now gone (maybe the name still exists, but it's a whole different operation and not even in NYC anymore), so I needed to find a new factory if I wanted to progress to actually selling them. I'd like to, but we'll cross the bridge later.

I guess I didn't realize how good I had it with Hertling until I tried some other factories. I tried my best to make it work, but the whole situation felt like it was always on the verge of trouble. I figured I would start the search for a factory from scratch. Hence, my experiment.

I gave all 8 factories the same pattern and materials and I review the resulting samples in the video below. Obviously, I could have made the video more in depth, but I figure I got the most important points and for that I'm satisfied considering I'm not an editor/videographer or whatever.
