Building a basic SW&D wardrobe

When I move back to Texas, I'm thinking of building a wardrobe heavy on linen. Very loose, though not quite so much as this:

Something with this feeling to it.

God that's horrendous. Please don't dress like a cross between an Amish guy and a blues musician who never quite made it.

Well, I am a Quaker.

I love that look. If I was a hefty fellow, it would definitely be a direction I'd take, sans the hat. As is, there is little I'd change about the shirt, but I would definitely not be wearing trousers so billowy. Perhaps a bit looser than my usual wool.

On a related note, this is currently the all time greatest look (by thumb count) ever posted on SF:

I love both sweaters. And I appreciate the look as a whole. But I just can't bring myself to get behind the shorts/stockings combination. Either wear pants or don't.

I went to check if they have that "Shrink-to-fit" jeans and no, they don't.

There are always fleets of Mexicans at the local Levi's outlet here, buying up oodles of 501STF. I think you would like the 508 a lot, MexiVox - regular thigh and then tapered a bit down at the ankle.

We'll look at what the cat dragged in

I have returned from decades in the wild to reclaim my Gondorian throne from the stewards of Denethor, and unite the kingdoms of Arnor and Gondor.

Haha welcome back, Argen. Thanks!

Thought I'd add a little something to this for Bete's denim considerations.

I have big thighs and butt but not waist or calves. As a result I end up getting something like Polo Ralph Lauren slim fit, but darting the waistband down to the pockets. This has worked really well for narrowing the waist and getting narrow legs without getting baggy on the thighs (by getting relaxed cut) or ending up as skinny jeans thanks to my hulk thighs.

I remember one tailor on SF talked about that. don't know tho if a tailor in here could do that.

Bringing this a bit back to life. I'm starting to build a casual wardrobe. I bought yesterday 4 henleys - finally find a place that carries them - and one tee shirt. Today I'm going to buy some boots. I'm in between these two, what do you think?

I like them both. The first one it's available in my size the second one I will need to see if the 8 or 9 fit better.

The stitching on the cap toe annoys me, but otherwise I really like the first one. The second looks more practical, really.
I could do without the contrast stitching. All boots look better when wrinkled and scuffed a bit.
Please don't put a mirror shine on these.

Hahaha nope. This will only get regular treatment not mirror shine.

Boots are Red Wing.

I don't like cap toes on boots - makes it look too much like a steel toed safety boot.

The second boot is very nice.

Agreed all around. But don't buy them unless they fit perfectly

This kind of boots have a "larger" last, right? Thing is they are very cheap considering the dollar vs peso exchange, if I wait until the second ones are availabe in my size, I will have to consider to pay 20% more and full price. Right now they are at $240 usd while in the page they are at $330. Plus I will need to ad $60 for having someone ship thm for me from the US and their proxy comission

You kind of lost me here. If the first ones are available in your size, and one sale, and you like them, then just buy those. I personally wouldn't pay almost $100 more for the second ones.

For reference, RedWing has many different lasts, so you'd need to make sure the one you tried in Mexico is the same as the one you're trying to order online.

Also, $60 is nuts for shipping from the US. I know they're heavy, but jesus.

Hahaha the Beckman's are also in here and the price it's the same. But they are only available in 8 and 9, no 8.5 as I would like. So I will like to try them both to see if they feel nice, if not I'm going to go with the other ones.

Thins is that if I don't buy them now, probably the next batch is going to cost more and even if I wait for the discount they are going to be more expensive than now.

So, basically I'm going to buy on of those two and I quite like them both. Hehehe. Consider that those are going to be wore with jeans.

Just make sure to try them both and walk around in them both. RedWing fit can vary quite a bit. I remember the Beckman's being a little narrower than their standard models. You've got to have these on your feet for hours at a time. A slight bad fit now can cause a real headache later.

GT's fit narrow. I sold mine after a year of pain and bought 1000 milers.

I will try them carefully.

Betelgeuse Betelgeuse - Have you considering asking In Stitches for advice on building your SW&D wardrobe??

Yeap, in fact, I already did.

He gave me a few basic tips that I should start from there. Basically, coherence, which, yes, my casual outfits lack of. I use jeans with a dress shirt, with a very casual belt and dress boots. So, taking that example, I need to add some casual shirts (fabrics) and as some said in the WAYWRN thread in here, another type of boots.

I was looking for those henleys for about a year, for real. And tee shirts are quite hard to find. They are all made very slim on the shoulders, I have to use an XL to feel comfortable but they look incredibly big around he waist... I don't know if those are tailorable but if they cost me $8 usd and the tailor is going to charge me $8 for taking in the waist... I don't see the point. Hehehe.

What I would really like to add next, is a leather jacket.

Looking good Betel. You don't need to cuff those jeans. Let them stack.

Try another pic without the cuffs.
