I'd prefer to not buy stuff from countries that had a low minimum wage and the death penalty. That rules out USA.

The only people in the US making minimum wage are selling Chinese made good though. Quite the conundrum.

The origin of the manufacture does not bother me as much. Yang Li, Ziggy Chen (beloved SZ brands), and some Yamamoto Pour Homme are made in China, but they are made by artisans who are treated fairly in small patches using high quality materials, not by some 12 year olds who are sitting in front of a sewing machine for 16 hours a day.

Made In China carries a negative stigma and understandingly so. But in the recent years, quality control has improved as well as worker conditions. Personally I find it difficult to pay premium prices for mass produced items in factories that are making clothing for 5 other companies. However I do enjoy the artisanal pieces since China is the major exporter of silk, cotton, wool, and cashmere.

American Apparel is Made in America, and we all know the sweatshops it uses in LA to crank out the products.

Your low-rent nations tend to be grindhouses, and even if the quality is good, there is the fact that they are making something that is largely a standardized commodity good distinguished only by minor nuances of marketing and branding. Honestly, for the bargain shopper this is not always a bad thing.

Your statement is one of the reasons I try not to buy Made in China clothes besides underwear and such. I have been to factory that used to make jeans for Levi's, and the working conditions even amazed me by Chinese standards at the time. The irony here is most of the products are exported here.
