Does Buying Used Make You Cheap?

'sup?
Conveniently for the discussion, I spent my weekend flooring. Bamboo ftw.

Doggie - how do you find those bamboo floating floors to install? My mate wants me to cover his old pine floorboards in a smallish kitchen - lots of corners and fixed walls cupboards etc. I'm telling him its very small, cooking kitchen not eating and if it was me I'd do the old school cork for a bit of softness. I'm told the bamboo with a rubber underlay has a bit of give in it. Is it easy to work with having a bunch of fixed points?

edit: do you, yourself, glue them or just click together. I've heard some glue them.

I thrift.... well a lot. Through a fair amount of trial and error I've zeroed in on two or three brands/cuts for suits, trousers, jackets that I know will fit they way I want w/o much or any major alteration that is either new or in very good condition for 1/10 of what it would cost me to buy retail. I've also got bespoke and full retail priced stuff.

Are you located in or near a major metro area? I can appreciate the strategy of thrifting and finding those brands that work for you. However, unless there is a certain volume of people who wear high end things, the ability to make scores will be low, no?

^^ I do. I should clarify, though that most of my trifling is via eBay. There are some great consignment shops that I used to go to, but rarely do any longer.

On a different note, anyone know how I can edit my name. I forgot the "r" in "stridently"

When I installed bamboo flooring in the den of Doom HQ, I used foam underlayment with a plastic vapor barrier and it has a little give but it ain't cork. I wish I'd put a few layers of varnish over it before allowing traffic, because even the Doom Dogs aren't shy about expressing their territorial ambitions.

That was kind of you thanks.
They made this movie about me:

My kid's teacher's house was broken into a few weeks ago and they took everything. Every. Fucking. Thing. They took her husband old socks and underwear. Now I'm sorta wondering if there is a market for used underwear (aside from Japanese pervs).

We're hygiene freaks. Some, a small minority, I suspect mostly teenage igothers, will buy second hand a1923 to save $2k.

Funny enough, my kitchen/dining room is actually cork, which can been seen through the doorway in that picture. Bamboo is extremely hard, nothing at all like cork. The rubber underlay does give the joints some give, but it's still such a hard surface.

You can glue it down, or nail it with a special nailer (18ga). I use a foam rubber underlayment with self adhesive called Elastilon, which you can see in the picture. It lets the whole floor float as one unit. The only caveat is you need to make sure the subfloor is very level, or it will show. This was the first install I did with it, pretty pleased so far.

Did you use an adhesive foam, or no?

Here is the finished floor, baseboard install in progress.

I don't think adhesive foam was available at the time. Or maybe I had it and didn't know - it was one of those projects where my arm was being twisted to hurry up and get it done, so no research or deliberation beforehand.

Those are always the most interesting.

Thanks doggie. Baseboard - we call skirting board. Looks good job. I'd do better though.

In a simple twist of fate* - today I'm doing dog boards (plinth boards) {doghouse?} around base of house. What do youse americans call them?

*small Bob reference.

Maybe I should start a building/house renos thread.

Plinth board. Not to be confused with plinth block, which go under trim molding in doorways.

House thread should exist somewhere from Rambo? have to search.

Good idea. The one on SF is imbued with some rather annoying members. I mean, house is in your name... start it doggy.

There it is.

Ironically, the only time i use the word doghouse is in reference to shitty contractors, ie. "I wouldn't let that motherfucker build me a doghouse".

My screen name actually came from an old company I had selling 4wd parts and services.
