The vibe in New Orleans I found somewhat intoxicating, a mixture of latin American exotica, great food and the excitement that you needed to stay close to the hotel if you valued your life. And that heat! Never experienced anything like that.

Houston's lack of sidewalks/pavements I found annoying and I had just read about Dean Corll before visiting which put me off the place. The Soviet style airport and level of service on the way out didn't win me over either.

I quite liked Boston's old world English charm and the fact it was safe to walk about was also a plus for me.

I always thought visiting San Francisco would be a spontaneous be-bop prosody delight, but I hear it's a meta-amphetamine nightmare of vagrancy and burnt out hippies looking for a new Charlie Manson.

Then there's New York, I will never forget the drive in and seeing the stereotype caricature of a 1970s black pimp with his stable of heroin addicted bitches, except this was for real and it was 1999.

I always thought visiting San Francisco would be a spontaneous be-bop prosody delight, but I hear it's a meta-amphetamine nightmare of vagrancy and burnt out hippies looking for a new Charlie Manson.

San Francisco is geographically beautiful. Culturally, it's awful. Self-loathing white and Asian people doing their best to live out Pulp's (or Shatner's, if you prefer) Common People. It's bizarre. The census tells me there is a significant Hispanic population, but you never see them. And being from the South, I was struck by the almost total lack of black people.

But again, it's a beautiful place, visually. In my opinion, the most beautiful large city in America.

Boston along with Charleston and New Orleans makes up my favorite cities. I like the architecture and how the streets are set up most. I never feel unsafe no matter the city, but I must agree Boston seen especially safe relative to many American cities... especially those in the northeast.

Visit Dogpatch if you want to see mexicans/blacks, though they been gentrified to other places. Even EPA got rid of a lot of its mexicans/blacks as well.

The Marina area of Pt Richmond is great. There are some phenomenal places off Seacliff Dr. and around the Yacht Club.

That's the only sufferable area of Richmond but meh, not my cup of tea living on a landfill oceanfront property with boat deck in the backyard surrounded by ghetto. Hippies Newport Beach. :S

On a positive note, its close to DMV, Costco, and that huge ass parking lot of highway 80.

I think LA will do just fine in the stratosphere, yes. I would love to live in Santa Barbara, but I can't afford it!
