Let's Talk About Denim

The size chart will give you the waist ( slight vanity sizing). I've had very minimal stretch in my three pairs from Gustin. For me, the straight leg is slim enough - I suspect the slim fit might be on the skinny side.

Fwiw: the standard shirt fit is also nice - slim but not too fitted, with fairly high armholes. I just wish the shoulders on the medium were a smidge longer. I haven't tried their new slim fit on shirts, but it looks like a large slim would work better for me.

Good info. Thanks

Speaking of Gustin, I just read the blurb on the new Zimbabwe work shirt and was happy to see they are now doing contrast stitching. I hope this continues into the next run of black denim shirts.

Maybe I overlooked this info somewhere, but is Gustin someone from SF or SUFU or does anyone know the history of the person.

I see Gustin is doing the Super Heavies again, FYI. These are by-far the best jeans I have ever owned. Heavy - though not as heavy as the name implies. Soft, flexible and comfy from day 1.

So dumb. Why call it a 501? If I want a 501, I'll buy a freaking 501. If I want a big-booty, tapered jean, give me a 50x instead. So dumb.

For those who are looking for forgiving uppers but tapered lowers, Naked&Famous Weird guy fits really well. I bought two pairs awhile ago and they have been amazing. TTS and you can probably find them under 70 bucks currently from various sites.

Pauly,
Would you recommend them for the summer?

My hesitation from ordering from Gustin. By the time the jeans arrive, the season has passed already and not returnable.

I gave them to my brother.
I know that you are a Levi's connoisseur, anything from that brand?
Depends on your proportions. I have big fat legs and a big fat ass so I wear 501's. If you are more proportioned you could wear either the 508's or 514's. I prefer shrink to fits. Let's me better dial in the fit.

Sanchopanza Sanchopanza If you want light weight denim, Rag&Bone RB15 makes a 8 oz red selvedge slim straight jeans. I have a pair that I have been wearing going 4 years now. It's a medium dark and non streaky. Can be worn casual or dressed up.

My waist size is between 33/34, I don't like baggy jeans, but my thighs are usually the problem

You could go with a 33 STF and hope the waist stretches out two. Or a 34. My standard advice for someone built is go true to size in the waist and two larger on the length. So if you're a 34/32 then go for a 34/34.

Does "selvedge" mean that they shrink?
Selvedge

Shrink to fit = unsanforized or pre-sanforized = crazy sizing varieties

Sanforized = pre-shrunk

RB 15 sanforized red selvedge and medium rise

This selvedge thing...that runs up the entire side seam? This seems to violate what I know about patternmaking, which has the grain line aligned with actual vertical (think of the imaginary crease as such) and the side seam is some angle off.

grrrrrr

I have recently been made awares of the hubbub complaining about the cheap single inseam stitching and the funny way they do hems on recent Levi 501 jeans.

Has this already been covered?

So this Zimbabwe cotton thing. Is it just Gustin hype or something worth a $50 mark-up over their other denims?

I bought a pair of raw jeans.my god there so F* unconfortable.! Stiff very stiff.. For how long do I need to wear them until they become a normal pair.
I am not sure of the weigth 12/14 Oz. The brand is Armani and they were on sales for 27bucks.
