Whelp, you're officially a baby boomer now

Not quite, but I have a lot of respect for the baby boomers when they were at the height of their cultural zeitgeist in the 1980s.

They probably would have made a better use of the technology available today then the millennials. Maybe.

I was very much of the Beat Generation, 89-up until well into the 2000's. Now that seems utterly dead to me and also the common culture has ditched Kerouac, Ginsberg and Burroughs. Although I do think we are living in times predicted by Burroughs and he had trickster techniques to break into the reality studio. Which I hope of some of us are using! Cypress Hill, definitely.

Don't smoke or inhale, but CBD under the tongue for medicinal reasons, so I guess can dig this extended version:

Strangely, or oddly enough, I downloaded the new Cypress Hill album over the weekend, having never listened to them since Insane in the Membrane. How very apt, the soundtrack to our lives, except smoking spliff, I mean the madness that only a trickster archetype can get out of, my kind of madness:

You like the Brinsley Schwarz version? I find it lacking and without any edge even though it is the original. Lowe's never recorded his own version, which is why it is on Quiet Please.

Do you have the Christmas album of Lowe's? Quite wonderful, especially Christmas at the Airport that even gets my family's thumbs up. I will post it again nearer to Christmas.

Quality Street? I like it. Have you heard the live version of it?

Totally agree about the Brinsley version. I thought it was originals v covers, in which case maybe it should have been Brinsley v EC.

No. I bet it's good though!

Lowe is one of the few examples of ageing rockers who get better with age.

Lucky enough to have seen him a few times, once as support to EC. Managed to get back stage at that one, it was the King of America tour so James Burton, Jim Keltner et al were all hanging around.

Ernesto, at the old St Kilda Palace?

Yes, he did two shows, one at Festival Hall which is where I got backstage and then the palace one, which EC just did on his own. Went to that one as well, which I had actually forgotten about. I think he did the Jo Jo Zep song So Young that night. On the liner credits for that song it says 'Produced at gunpoint by Nick Lowe', so I gather Nick wasn't a fan.

Nick Lowe opened at the show I went to at Palace. James Burton was there too and Costello did So Young

Well EC's version is seen by many as the definitive version and often mistaken for the original as it was more popular.

I listened to a Nick Lowe interview several years back and he said he made a couple of million on the inclusion of What's So Funny.... in the Bodyguard soundtrack which was covered by Curtis Stugers, I think he wrote a song about it and explained he was back in the UK after his divorce in his semi with a takeaway and wondering where it all went wrong and then the next day.....a big juicy loyalty cheque.

Well we were at the same gig then, I just forgot Lowe opened. EC only did two shows in Melbourne that tour.

We probably walked past each other.
