No new clothes in 2015

I'm a photographer, so depending on the day I can dress up if I want to, or not. I have no dress code at my place of employment. I just can't look like a total piece of crap, which I never do.

I used to work for Hudson's Bay, so I did a lot of thrifting during my time there. I lean towards a dressier style overall, if i am going out I will usually throw a jacket on. Most f/w days, it is just OCBD, sweater, (pants depends on my mood), and navy quilted jacket. When work is done, I usually will pop a blazer on and head out.
 
This is really fascinating laying the pieces out first and then seeing how they get paired later. I could give my guesses on what will prove less versatile, but I've been known to surprise my self either way with miscalculation.
 
given my track record most will get paired poorly but I have a lot of fun trying :)

Tomorrow dress shirts and I guess because of the season sweaters. I don't feel much of a need to document super casual stuff like shorts, etc. Next day shoes. And I'll put an outfit or two together tomorrow though I am not going to work
 
So far this does reflect the old advice that it's hard to go wrong with Brooks Brothers. Most everything, being more premium, and somewhat conservative, brands means that there is little fashion, trendy, or otherwise objectionable stuff here. I hate to say it is safe, but there's nothing that we're all pouncing on and mocking. And we love to do that.

Very little of this is brooks though, save for a few ties. My style is somewhat sedate however and so I do agree that there is little to find objection with (If I do say so myself :) ). Fair amount of Polo (suits and trousers mostly) so that is Brooks like I suppose.
 
I meant upscale and conservative. Brooks is just the example from the old adage.
If our favorite whipping boy Gianni Cerutti shared showing his individual pieces, the response would be a series of negative smileys and memes.
I concur that the gingham will never be a staple.

Yes, to my mind it is conservative. If that is somewhat synonymous with BB to your mind and others, ok. I think of it as being a bit more English/European in the styling and fit in most cases (most of my tailored pieces are made in Italy) and I have found BB to be a bit boxy for my taste.
Yes, the gingham jacket is a fill-in. Great with denim, ocbd and loafers. Not good for much else. I'll swap out the buttons for some nice smoked MOP's on a blue jacket I have that will be better served with white pearl buttons in the spring. It'll get worn 10 times or so this year then sent out to pasture when I can purchase again.
 
Go with a pair of raw slim straight jeans. Would look much better. Also I feel that a pair of monk straps would be appropriate here.

I don't think there's a problem with the width of the hem. Its the penny loafers that are causing me visual harm.

Or just a regular dress shoe. Jeans and penny loafers should not be paired together.

Boots, shoes, something less fey than the loafers. But then I just hate loafers. Suede would be nice. Pebble/scotch grain.

A chukka. A captoe boot, chelseas, jodphurs. PTB, brogue boot.

Shoulders are not working on that jacket I'm afraid.

Sometime we gotta turn our backs on tradition even if it is in our blood. I turned my back on mullet/hockey hair. Loafers would be a good start.

But seriously, Wear what you like. I just think there are alternatives that would suit your fit much better. Beside, I just don't trust a man in loafers, but I will suspend that trust issue with you.

I will not give up loafers. Can't for 2015 anyway. when I post shoes tomorrow you will see why. happy to concede this fit would have been better served with different shoes though!

The way I'm drooling after that plaid suit shows why it's good that I have to be prudent and not load up on less practical showpieces.

As mentioned upthread the zip up sweaters aren't items I'd buy again :-)
 
The idea is to catalog what I own and post what I wear each day. No new purchases this year so what I have posted is what I will has to work with. It is all in the OP
 
The blue loafers appear funky but in a good way. What do you wear them with? I think cream color or light color pants look best with odd color shoes.
 
Things I wish I had:

Suits;
1. Navy blue.
2. Lighter blue "blazer" suit
3. Cigar linen "blazer" suit
3. Tuxedo

Blazer suits would be ideal for travel. I travel to Miami and Austin for business a few times a year plus another one or two biz trips to warmer climates, which will be increasing in the coming years so these two pieces would be ideal for that since they could also be worn as separates.

Sports Jackets:

1. Would probably be need to be custom, but a flannel larger scale POW in blue/grey with triple patch pockets
2. Brown or green corduroy.
3. Midnight blue velvet jacket for evenings out
4. Linen blue db

Shoes:

1. Chukka in brown suede
2. Chukka in pebble grain or Color 8 shell
3. Black Chelsea
4. Belgian Loafers (for home)
4. Pair of drivers or moccasins

well, I would say your shoe rotation is decent. the ferragamo loafers don't look bad. not sure what you mean that they are beaten to death, anyway.

personally, I'm not a fan of chukkas. you know your requirements better. black chelsea is a good choice. don't sweat about the belgian and driving mocs. they can be had for cheap, if you don't reach out for "originals"
 
^^^ thank you Walker. I suppose because I wear them like beaters I tend to think of them that way. They're lucked lug-soled and have held up remarkably well.
Chukkas: I feel my shoe wardrobe tends to the sleeker end of the scale and I'm often at a loss when I need a bit more substantial shoe.
Anyway, that is a 2016 problem.
