that's a bit of a lie though. zwarte piet was a slave bought free by sinterklaas (which is where santa claus a/o originates from but that's a different story) who then became sinterklaas' helper.

yes. he's not the slave of sinterklaas. that's also why he is always so smiley and happy clappy. if i understand correctly, the issue some people are taking is that zwarte piet is the helper and sinterklaas (the white guy with the grey beard) is the boss - even though he is an extremely friendly boss.

Totally agree, also never liked the imitation for car seats called alcantara, even never liked the cheapo polyleather that German cars got unless you pay the extra of 4000e for real leather, than on any way would be English or Italian leather.

Trying to get this thread back on a serious track, I'll have to say that I like suede shoes although I only have a few pairs. No shoes are easier to maintain than dark suede, none harder than light colored suedes like white bucks or tan. Not a good choice for foul weather, but you can get waterproofing sprays to help matters. Suede shoes are generally softer and more comfortable than regular calfskins. Fred Astaire liked them for dancing.

Well, if you mean staining, it can often be cleaned up with a brush and an eraser. You can get suede cleaning kits for only a few dollars.

Just an ordinary soft white rubber,, I think in USA they call them erasers, will often work, or one of those pumice stones women use. For oil drops sprinkle something like talcum powder and leave over night then brush off. With desert boots I wash them with baby hair shampoo under warm water with a lather and nail brush. I regularly spray all my suede with protective spray. I have 8 pair of suede. Maybe more. I never wear them in the wet. I hate beat up suede. It's lounge lizard wear for me.

Is the liquid cleaner actually going to remove old grime? I have darkening and no nap.

Here's a little suede story from last weekend. I was showing my dog in a park in Ontario, California. Between shows I was walking the dog around the park when I chanced to drench the toe of one of my A-E suede chukkas in a muddy rivulet. After the boot had dried. I gave it a brief brushing with a plastic-bristled suede brush. Today, it looks exactly the same as its undrenched counterpart. I think the forum culture tends to underrate the durability of suede.

On the previous day, I was walking my dog around the park by a lake when a large bird (a heron, I suspect--never got a glimpse of the culprit) absolutely drenched in birdshit my fine W.W. Chan sport coat from a lightweight Scabal fabric. I hope the cleaners have been able to restore it. Otherwise I shall have to order a replacement from Chan when they come through next month and pay, I'm sure, about double what this jacket cost back in 2007.
