I like the shoes. The button-down shirt with only the collar unbuttoned, on the other hand, is neither fish or fowl. If you don't feel comfortable unbuttoning another button - you are at work, right? - you should probably be wearing a tie.

I can wear a tie, there is no need for it though. Every now and then I have to wear a tie and jacket.

So, why not unbutton another button? What is the point of a button-down sport shirt, if it doesn't make you look relaxed?

No offense. . . This is, of course, entirely subjective, but, as it is, your outfit looks like you have just taken off your jacket and chucked away your tie at any rate. You might as well put them back on or alternatively relax!

The one button unbuttoned shirt with no tie and jacket is the acceptable and appropriate business wear in large parts of the Western world. Anything else will put you outside of the norm. Little upside risk, lots of downside risk. Besides, he already has his chinstrap, so he's used up is one alloted unit of individual expression.

I know that. I was just expressing an opinion; I was not trying to singlehandedly lay down the law on business attire. Hence, my initial suggestion to just unbutton one more.

At any rate, the uniform that you have invoked usually goes together with khakis/chinos. Anything else, to my eyes, looks awry. A sport shirt with what from the picture seems like a pair of flannel pants feels like it's missing something. YMMV.

Loafers! Preferably black, but a nice brown suede would work too.

The more successful/independent he becomes the more units of individual expression he'll have. Hence rich guys doing things outside of the norm are being seen as eccentric while poor people are seen as weird.
 
I cant wear chinos for the most part of the week other than Fridays. If a meeting is called I need to wear a suit and so forth. Since i live literally a walking distance from the office it makes it a no brainer for me. Also the button stuff lol, I dont want to be written up for something as stupid as that.

Then get some new eyes. He looks fine. Stop dwelling on this for Christ's sake. No wonder so few post here. And it's button up shirt. Button down describes collars.

No shit? The button-down shirt he is wearing is not a popover, nor is it clearly some other kind of shirt. . . Why would anyone need to mention that it is a "button up"? And the American work uniform consists of a button-down (collar) shirt, usually in oxford cloth, and khakis - not just any kind of button-up shirt.

So if you want to be a smartass, try a little harder. If you want to mark someone else as a stickler, try not to act like like an asshat yourself.
 
I'll try this one more time. He's not wearing a button down shirt. He's wearing a shirt with a button down collar. Honk if you understand. Then go start a thread about your fucked up observations on the American work uniform and the significance of the number of buttons chosen to be left unbuttoned on a button up shirt.
 
Do not undo another shirt front button - unless going out to a lap dancing bar.

You look good there. Are you Trad? The elements are all there. I used to be that, before the war. Everyone looks good in a salt & pepper herring bone. I have one, even now. Good show. Post more pics, then I won't bemoan the lack of interest in this thread.
