First off, stop being a prick and calling it ramboforum. Its not "my site". Its our site.

Secondly, those alert problems were tied to the theme. Since we're no longer using that theme, I don't understand what problems you're talking about. Could you attempt to explain them? Alerts suck again is not helpful.

i will attach some screenshots. no disrespect!

That little map pin looking icon next to the inbox is the alerts. On the home page, if you click your user name it will drop down and show you the alerts. It's very similar to the old theme. Is there something that's not working properly for you?

yes my friend i was trying to explain that the little red map pin looking icon next to the inbox that when you click on it will drop down and show you the alerts (which i simply referred to as the alert function) didn't tell me that there were a lot of new posts in the disagreeable thread

Ah. Seems to work when I test your account

Could have been a fluke thing. Try logging out and logging back in. Maybe clear your cache. You could also sign up for email subscription on that thread. Might be a more secure way for you to be notified.

thanks rambo! although i hate to miss some good hate posts email notification seems a bit much. i will try and clear the cache

i have noticed some of the posts do not come through as an alert despite having posted in the particular thread

Is this possibly just a prolonged lag?

it must be. thank goodness i just happened to be in this thread or i would have missed this post

Its sort of a function of the way Xenforo software works. It will catalog all the updates to the thread you're watching and notify you the next time you log in or visit. If you're on the forum and someone posts, the system might not automatically flag that. The only way to get instant notification is email updates.

Housekeeping note - I went through and purged the member rolls of all our dead members and spam signups.

I've noticed repeatedly that I'm missing notifications on threads to which I've subscribed. Sometimes I will log in and not follow all the notifications on everything I've read for the sake of time. When I come back to the site again, I'm no longer notified that anything further has been posted in those threads until I repost, in effect "resubscribing." Thoughts?

For example - I logged in just now to one notification on Disagreeable Menswear Post of the Day, but many, many other threads I regularly participate in had new activity of which I was not notified.

To be quite honest, I'm not sure. Try email subscriptions for more accurate, up to date notices. Also, if you do get an alert for a thread with multiple new posts, you won't get more than one alert.

Are you guys leaving the site and then coming back, or are you staying on the site in a tab and then just switching back to it?

I leave and come back and I notice that I miss notifications that I will notice in the recent posts or the unread button up top

I'm searching the Xenforo forums. So far I found this:

It's unrelated to alerts. They need to read the thread - if there is already a new (unread) post in the thread, then they won't receive an alert again until they're caught up. They can see the list of such threads on the "watched threads" page. Alternatively, they can just mark all forums as read.

And this:

If you have already received an alert for a thread you are watching but haven't visited the thread then I don't think you will receive any more alerts.
It's the same as email notificiations.

If you were to receive alerts for every reply then potentially you could end up with hundreds of alerts if you watch a lot of threads and don't visit for a few days.

I'm searching the Xenforo forums. So far I found this:

see, this post was not announced with that disappearing alert banner. just went up to alerts and there it was. it is intermittent. just got an alert when writing this.

also, have you noticed that when you click alerts, the new unread ones are starred but when you click display all, no stars anymore

Been buggy for me too although can't understand the pattern of alerts vs unalerts.

so the alert button next to the conversation button lists new posts with the number of alerts and then when you click it shows the starred post. sometimes a post has occurred but it is not displayed

now, when you click Show All, there are no stars denoting new, unread posts

Ah. Ok, the star refers to threads you're subscribed to. The not showing ALL the posts is that note about "there may be more posts after this"

I just went in and turned the user permission for alerts to unlimited. This should increase the amount of alerts you receive. Let me know if this makes this better and/or worse.

ok, but i don't do anything to actively subscribe to threads or not. and i understand the "more posts after this" but sometimes when coming back (having caught up before i quit safari), there is no alert that posts were made when i was gone and i find them after the fact

You can see all your watched threads in your profile. You might have done it with a reply accidentally.

Not sure about the second part. We'll see if the new setting improves things.

so here is a screenshot of watched and the alerts. shouldn't there be an alert for the humanity post in the alerts at 9:18

Since some of you mumsers seem to think I don't do anything around here, this is my book reading progress for tonight's treadmill session

I'm missing out on alerts, too, but it's been going on for quite some time, with various threads.

The recent culprit was the "Disagreeable" thread - I thought that it was funny that I hadn't had an alert for it for a day or two and when I clicked on it there were about 30 new posts but I hadn't received any notification at all.

Other subscriptions seem to drop out after a while, like the "Cop brutality" thread, as an example - I used to get subscriptions but they suddenly stopped, although I'd still see the thread mentioned in "recent posts".

Just to check, are you reading all of these threads when you get the alerts? Because if you get the alert, but don't read the thread, the system won't update you again since you've technically already been alerted.

Hmmm... Good question. I think that I'm reading all of the threads, but I guess that I might miss one or two of them every now and then.

Interestingly, it just seemed to happen again for the "Disagreeable" thread. I read the thread earlier today, and when I opened up DW just now, I got an alert for this thread, but not for the "Disagreeable" thread, although I can clearly see that someone's posted in the Disagreeable thread because it's at the top of the page.
