Zen and the Art of Forum Maintenance

Thanks. Much better without the italics.
FWIW, with FF the edit box scales with post length. Using Chrome, it's always large. In neither case it's the quick reply box at the bottom of the page.

I was doing some reading last night. I think its a bug within chrome and/or the forum.

Anyone else with the thumbnail issue?

Sorry, not the thumbnail issue. I was referring to B1os's GIANT editor box. Should still work fine, but from what I've read up on, it just seems to be a glitch coming from one of the sides.

The thumbnail issue is a concern though. I don't know what the hell that was all about.

Ha, I understand. In conclusion: the site runs on different cookies. On the one hand there is www.wdwv.net/forum. On the other hand there is wdwv.net/forum. Try it out. Go to wdwv.net/forum (type it in the URL bar, or activate, right click, go to). If you're logged in, log out. Go to www.wdwv.net/forum. You'll still be logged in.
Likewise, the forum software doesn't recognize http://wdwv.net/forum as an internal link. That is, it doesn't realize that it's a link leading to this very forum (or a thread in this forum), which is why the link opens in a new tab. Technically, the software is correct, since wdwv.net runs on a different cookie than www.wdwv.net/forum. It's something about the server configuration.

There's definitely something screwy going on with Chrome. We've got redirects setup from any of the non-www. links to head to the forum. From www.wdwv.net as well. I just tried it in Safari and Chrome (because I have Firefox all full of add-ons and wanted a blank test). I went to www.wdwv.net and it redirected me to www.wdwv.net/forum. I logged in, and then tried going to wdwv.net, with no www.. In Safari, it worked fine. In Chrome, it logged me out. I ran a google search:

https://www.google.com/search?q=chrome logging me out of websites&aq=f&oq=chrome logging me out of websites&aqs=chrome.0.57j0.4781j0&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

Apparently, its quite the issue.

It's the same problem with Opera and FF. Make sure that you don't type wdwv.net but http://wdwv.net . That way, the browser won't change it automatically to www.~ (or the redirect won't trigger, whatever's the case).

in firefox and chrome, i click the http link that you just posted and it keeps me logged in and redirects to www. weird

A few people have reported their iPhone image posts as being rotated. Sadly, this happens in many places and there's not much we can do about it. Its a function of the iPhone and its EXIF data.

Rambo, we fur reel need an icon for the website.

When I bookmark the homepage, SF has a logo, but WDWV doesn't.

Yeah, we know. Sadly, definitely not our department. If you know anyone who's willing to mock one up for us, please let me know.

They pop up for me until I hit the x after that it doesn't come up again Chris thats on all 3 devices I use, laptop, Galaxy S3 and iPhone

FYI- the "announcement" pop-up about this comes up every time I visit the forum whether on PC, iPad or phone. Even if I dismiss it. Not cookies-based?
Why are my GIFs now all NSFW spoilered? They are safe for work, unless you work in an anti Zangief or anti Star Wars company.

apologies. i was doing a bunch of work and then woke up this morning and was all

[bimg]http://i613.photobucket.com/albums/tt218/Odok12/wtf-animated.gif[/bimg]

I killed the notification and fixed the img issue. should be fine now.

I'm trying to make a NSFW image button. Something that will automatically wrap any image uploads in spoilers. As you could see, I turned the regular IMG upload instead.

too lazy to search to see if it's been brought up, but can you add the function to go to first unread post and the very last post. every page link takes you to the top of the page.

bdeuce22 If you click the little dot to the left of the thread, it will take you to the first unread post. Saving that, it should take you to the last post, not the first, if you click the thread title. Assuming you've read it. What theme are you using?

So are you having the problem on mobile, desktop, or both? Have you tried it with different themes? The reason I ask is that I have to modify the templates for the themes individually to get them to do that, so its entirely possibly I fubared one and not all the others. But I'm on the default theme (soft regular) and it hops right to the end for me without hitting the little red button.

Glad you like it.

Maybe you could make the red button bigger and more buttony. It really doesn't look like a clickable button. It just looks like a notification icon.

I already told the guy who makes the themes and he's going to implement that in the next revision.

no issue now. i didn't realize by hitting the red button it goes to the first unread.

No, the red button aside, I SHOULD have made it to where, when you've already read all the posts in the thread, and you click just the regular post link, it takes you to the last post and not to the first post.

Does the software not support animated .Gifs for avatars? I uploaded one and it's a static image.

Sort of. Its somewhat convoluted and not really working at the moment. Just gonna have to go with static images for the time being.

^ Hey, brother b1os is here.

So, we can't upload our own images and have to host them remotely? Is that true?

Whats the best way you guys have seen to review threads I've posted in? (SF has the "threads I've posted in' link)

Also, any metrics on users?

The hearts are back for likes. I don't think they're worse than no highlighting at all, tbh.

Yeah, I left them this time because I like how it helps differentiate the actual likes from just more text. Although, I'm trying to see about a different symbol.

OfficePants OfficePants Read the 'Getting Started With The New Forum Software' thread in Everything Else.

What do you mean by 'metrics on users'?

^^ kinda how on SF you can see the top posters for the day, week, month. Its always stitches at the top over there anyway, but it was always a useful way finding someone having a meltdown...

Hey, stranger OfficePants.

Not true. "Upload a File" in the bottom right.

Whenever there's a new post, an alert will notify you. Other than that, this might do the trick: http://www.wdwv.net/forum/watched/threads/all

I'm not a stranger.

Upload a file, thanks.

Awesome... your posted threads are automatically watched.

By the way Rambo, nice clean design. I like the alerts feature quite a bit. Who is "A", was he SF?

No, we got rid of that. Users online shit too.

Upload a file, thanks.

Thanks. Try out the different colored themes. They really add a lot to the design.

A's the brains. I'm just the mouthpiece.

Grand Potentate Grand Potentate , here's a screenshot describing my problem of the last few days.

Screen Shot 2013-04-18 at 11.45.22 PM.webp

Despite being permanently signed in, the green "log in" bar at the top of the screen continues to be there, obscuring access to my alerts list. Any ideas?

Zé Ferreira Zé Ferreira Weird. Have you tried using different themes? Could just be a problem with the green one. Or it could be a cookies issue (thinks you're not logged in when you are.)
