You know you shouldn't: Confessionals of DW

Fair I have a few blue suits. Mostly like true blues, a stone blue and a french blue. Nothing really conservative in my closet.

I want that hair when I hit 50. I've always wanted hair like that, but I think you have to be a certain age, or at least have a good number of grays, to really pull it off. At the moment, my hair is too thick for that to work. I had hair that length for a while; a girl I was dating liked the look. I wore a wire hairband to keep it pulled back--I felt like a wannabe footballer on more than one occasion. But it was ridiculously low maintenance. And, well, the girl liked it. Perhaps she suffered from poor eyesight.

Found a very old picture:

like a swedish prince, almost thought that was a sarto sighting

I think I'll probably wear an OCBD unbuttoned, with a tie, at some point in the near future. Though there are many things about sprezzatura that bug me, this has never been one of them.

Nooooooooo!

:bigtears:

Actually, I should probably seek to clarify - are you thinking of wearing an OCBD collar unbuttoned while also wearing a tie and a jacket, or are you thinking of wearing the collar unbuttoned while just wearing it with chino pants or jeans?

In the southwest of Germany we prefer to eat well made local dishes like Schäufele, Maultaschen, Schupfnudeln, Flädlesupp, Kässpätzle, Ochsenbrust or Rehrücken.

If we want to spent a little bit more money (which we have, even if we have to pay for the underarchiever regions in germany like Berlin) we go to one of the 74 Michelin stars rated restaurants in the region.

complimenti

Why not wear a regular oxford shirt if not using collar point buttons?

Unsure if Chorn's trolling, getting ready for the next Pitti, or both?
For variety. Always looking out for ways to drop the level of formality in a jacket and tie (short of ditching the tie).

It's a look I think I've liked in the past, and there are plenty of associated looks that I can't stand. Like the inverted collar propped up by the jacket lapel. Just awful. I think I draw the line at anything that requires more effort than the default (as opposed to anything requiring less effort/thought or an equal amount of effort/thought--not that saving time and effort is anything but a scant rationalization).

I think many of my spreads are in oxford anyway. I'll make sure to post it in D-MW if/when I do it.

---

I think I would be a very unhappy camper at Pitti, at least in terms of the atmosphere that gets communicated via photographs. From what people have written about it, it seems like a good time is had by folks meeting friends from across the globe. The constant posing and photography would wear thin quickly though.

I wear 8-eyelet Doc Martens. Chili ones. With jeans, usually. Sometimes chinos. But then, this is the Northwest. I could probably wear them with a suit and no one would notice; hell, the only reason I don't is that they'll screw up my break. They're comfy and great in the rain.

I also wear a high skin fade, although our Sergeant Major has authorized "regulation, but non-traditional haircuts." Whatever the fuck that means. I know there are no terrorists near me because no one has shot me yet.

- There is an old corrected grain Chukkas my now-wife bought for me which i still wear at least once a week in colder weather with OJs.

- I wear suede with worsteds.

- Over half of my shoes have rubber soles (topy/ tomir/ dianite/millerighe etc)

- I wear shades of white trews and

- I wear them all year round.

- I regularly wear gloves/ hat and on occasion scarf with just my suit/ OJ and no overcoat.

- I wear (medium) spread collars with my OJs.

- I never use the tie keeper ( i did this way before the pitti Pricks) but i endeavour to almost always align front and back blades to be as equal as possible.

- I never use collar stays - my collars are convex though.

Gloves/hat/scarf with suit makes sense to me since extremities get colder faster than the body. Long as the accessories aren't too chunky think it's perfectly fine.

I agree. But i know many an iGENT who carp about it.

In my defence, i am mainly based in London for much of the year and in colder weather it is never really cold enough for an overcoat so i just go with heavy trews ( 15+ oz) and heavy-ish OJ or heavy-ish suit, capybara gloves, scarf and hat and i am fine.

If you mainly use the tube an overcoat is too warm, but if you actually walk outside it's quite nice with this kind of weather. Besides, what do you do when it rains?

I wore a very old, pale blue, oxford-cloth shirt with a button-down collar without ironing it today, paired with beige chino pants, brown cotton socks and shell cordovan loafers.

Actually, I know that fxh fxh wears an un-ironed OCDB shirt sometimes, so I suppose that it's not that bad.

Umbrella not sufficient?

It is indeed. It is not as we have torrential downpours in London anyway and if it does, i try to avoid being exposed for long enough.

I spend a major portion of my time in Iceland and that is where the fun is with regards to weather; no one uses umbrella. It is just not done and it screams 'tourist' and it is so windy that no matter how sturdily built your brolly is ( and i have tried), it is destroyed in the winds there.

If I'm NOT wearing a tie I never iron the shirt. (Thats most days) But its not as if they are crinkled all over like crap either.

Other confessionals:
- I wash my bespoke linen trews in the washing machine. Admittedly it is touched up a little by hand by me before i wash it on delicate program.
- I sometimes wear tees with my linen jkts in the summer ala Miami Vice. And it is not the loose completely unconstructed construction, my linen jkts are all fully canvassed but quarter/ buggy-lined.
- I wear boat shoes in the summer, even though i don't own a boat. And yes, i own several pairs of loafers.
- I buy very cheap underwear but i splurge on socks.
- I own an A1 blouson (in brown suede). I know it is an igent staple but i quite like it and wear it most weekends. I might add another sometime soon.
