well, I tried to find wurgers post(s), where he claimed that he is a poor guy and he can only afford to buy one or two pairs of Loakes' per year - not that there would be anything wrong with it. actually, its not in his posting history anymore, conspicous? in the meantime, he aquired shoes worth around 15 - 20k at full retail within about six months. not to sure what to think about it??? no pun intended.

Given his low profile (or does he run a popular blog I'm unaware of?), I doubt he's getting any sort of hook up. Perhaps a drastic change in income? Or maybe it was someone else saying they could only afford a few Loakes per year?

I think that SF groupthink does tend to induce people to spend more than they might otherwise, and to buy more than they might otherwise do.

So, it's quite possible that before becoming involved with SF, wurger thought that Loakes were largely the bee's knees but that after a few months of browsing the various shoe threads he realised that his wardrobe was significantly understocked and he went on a bit of a binge...

I know that I might be a hypocrite as I've bought quite a lot over the past several years, with some periods where I've bought quite a lot in quick succession and other periods where I haven't bought anything for months.

However, it does surprise me to see just how much stuff some people buy. It seems that some people are getting a pair or two of pretty top-tier shoes each month in some cases and that's often on top of ties, shirts and other accessories.

I do think that you're being a bit paranoid there, for want of a better word.

Just because someone becomes infected with SF groupthink and goes crazy buying lots of shoes doesn't mean that they're receiving kickbacks or subsidies. I tend to echo chorn's comment above.

It's also worth noting that, for whatever reason, when you look at someone's profile on SF, you can only see 100 pages of their posts. For whatever reason, anything earlier than that doesn't show up when you look at their profile. So, depending on how frequently a person posts on SF, you might only be able to see their posts from some months (or, in InStitches' case, a few days) back and no further.

Hence, the inability to see all of wurger's posting history isn't some sort of diabolical plot but rather due to a universal setting in the forum software that affects all profiles.
