Agreeable Menswear Post Of The Day

Nice Pauly. Not a big fan of the notch lapel (or the wing tip collars) but I don't have hysterics about it either. Is it just me - but I think those trousers are a bit too short - although that seems to be the default length for the cognoscenti these days

Pants that are too short are one of the worst things that can happen to a tailor
Takes away the dignity of both the client and the tailor right away
This looks COMICAL and that cannot be excused

Wing collars look shit.
Notch lapels the worst DJ option
Do they even have silk-faced lapels or are they just black suits?
Do the pants have silk ribbon down the outseam?
Do they have turn ups?

One of those pics where at first glance you think they look smart but when you look a little closer you see it's all a bloody mishmash.

I tend to favour shawl collars for dinner jackets simply because there are no other, sensible, oppurtunities to wear them. Wing collars are too try hard, but not totally infra dig. Cuffs for anything very formal are simply ignorant. High water trouser lengths have jumped the shark.

Overall the above gents are very well dressed by modern standards.

The whole dinner jacket cravat noire malarkey is not the ideal vehicle to deliver your sartorial vision. To me it's a like a school uniform, something you have to do, a chore, I pay no mind to it. What those guys are wearing looks okay to me, a bit of white tie coming in as well, no one at any black tie event would pay them any attention either way.

Bravo! This shows that you can't be bought.

I think we are nip picking a bit. I like the overall presentation. Could it be better, yes. But overall I think the three of them look great together.

It's black tie man. The conventions are clearly defined. Either do it properly or don't bother.

Black suits masquerading as dinner suits don't cut it for me. Same for 'rebels' who think they are being so original by refuting the conventions and showing up with open necked shirts, four in hand ties, coloured socks, etc. - Just do it properly or stay at home.

I once saw a nice dinner jacket in Brookes Brothers. It was black watch but it looked solid until about a metre or so away. I was surprised how good it looked.
