All Things Sock-Related

I'm glad that I asked! Socks that wear quickly are as disappointing as shirts that fray too soon, as the bulk of the item is in fine shape, but it is ruined overall.
I'm a bit amused by blacksocks.com and their obsession with the darkest black. It bugs me that black socks are notably darker than black shoe leather already.
 
The dollar stores seem to be littered with shitty polyester socks of all kinds. Needless to say, they suck.

Next time I swing by Uniqlo, I'll look at their selection for non-traditional socks. I previously passed it by as there is nothing in OTC wool, but for casual nonsense they look good.
 
On pink socks, I'm with Alfie: "If you ooze masculinity, like some of us do, you have no reason to fear pink." :lulz:
 
Remember that kickstarter with the colorful wool OTC socks made in the USA. They finally exist. Reviews are good. I don't care for striped socks and $35, presumably with free shipping, is a bit more than I want to spend right now. They have solids too.
The name is Penance Hall. I hate that name.

I think they made two flubs in
1. Spending too much on a fancy box that's gonna get pitched in the trash immediately. Put a pair in a shipping baggie and be done. If you want to sell gift boxes, charge extra separately.
2. Free shipping. Yes, everybody expects it nowadays, but that means no spreading out the shipping price if you buy more.
~28 is probably right, and ~$5-$6 S&H. It's possible these are so ultra-premium that one will coo all over them and think the price is a-ok, but that's a tough sell on the internet.
 
Where are people (AAS) etting plaid socks? I actually saw a real live person wearing them this weekend. Are these all cheap novelty junk, or are good ones available?

like this kind of plaid? Pantherella has a couple. Nothing really at Bresciani or Marcoliani other than argyle

I have no idea. I thought they were the store brand Merona, but apparently not. I'd imagine they are private label, and made in some generic overseas factory...
If I swing by a Target, I'll look at the label.

These were the only ones I could find on the internet that didn't have any nylon in them. The bamboo lettering is on the bottom of the sock so doesn't show when you're not wearing shoes.

Isn't bamboo just rayon? I assume they don't collect moisture as readily as cotton?

Don't know if all rayon is made from bamboo. It's the only thing I wear for t-shirts and socks playing sports, and the best to wear for socks to let your feet breathe.
 
If bamboo fibre is natural it is called bamboo. If it is chemically created then it is Rayon

Nah, don't think so. It's too bad, because socks are getting quite expensive. I need around 10-pairs a year, because they wear out so fast. I've had top notch bresciani socks get holes in random places after wearing them like 10 times. It seems silly to be spending over 300 a year on socks.

Is that a normal amount? How much do you guys spend?
 
Lots of people but Pantherella OTC's from those types of places for around $10-15

You might need to start importing these things. Or finding out where the poors shop.

monkey - where are they getting holes?

Thought about darning them? Simple & effective to DIY

Mainly in the sides just above the ankles and the toe area.

I have thought about it, but it takes forever. Darning 10 pairs of socks would probably be more expensive than buying new ones.

Monkey, the holes near ankles is a bit weird. You'd have to be a darning wiz to do that well but heels and toes don't have to be done well and might take 10 my minutes while watching TV.

I have a bunch of viccel socks. No complaints except the normal ones are a bit thinner than I like. I only wear otc, even in work boots.
