An All-boot Dress Footwear Rotation

I have the Turnouts in black - great boot, just not a colour I wear often. I just ordered the Comfort Craftsman.

For a casual or work Chelsea, I also recommend Rossi. MacArthur make a decent Craftsman knock-off, though the leather isn't as nice. Blundestone is pretty iconic, but their quality went to shit 10 years ago. There was also a brand called Redback, but I don't know what they are like these days. None of these alternate Aussie brands offer wide sizes though.

Looked at an AE Dalton boot this PM. Had not seen one in the flesh before. I cannot say anything bad about them. Not blobby at all. A nice tie profile and conservative broguing. The only problem I had was that the colour was kind of light to be versatile across a wide spectrum of colours. I think it was walnut but was lighter than it looks online - more tan and closer to bandaid than I would have liked.

Shame they stocked only this one as the other colours are quite nice. Also had a leather sole and I'm currently seeking a more all weather sole which they do have with a custom order.

I regret that my Dalton's were small. AE recommended US 9 when I should have ordered US 10. Now my cousin have them but he doesn't know how to rock them. The Dalton is perhaps the only shoe I really like from AE. I hope to add them to my collection later.

What size in US sizing do you normally wear? I find AE's to be pretty true to size.
 
I use 8.5 UK they tole me to go with US 9 and it was way too tight. I know they were going to break in but my cousin wears 8UK and still felt them a bit snug.

UK is almost always 1 size smaller than US. I don't know what the fuck they were doing telling you to get a 9. You'd need a 9.5 or 10.
 
Wearing my Rossi pioneers today. Great for chinos, cords or denim wear.

Baxters are probably the next best boot to RMs for most igents. They don't get mentioned much. Perhaps they don't do USA?

Blunnies do a nice enough thing they call their "dress" boot but for me it looks like a good work boot - or as those cute Americans say a "yard" boot. Its only around $100aud or so and looks a bit smoother than their normal old Blunnies - which have sort of dropped off the hipster scene here - used to be all the rage even amongst the females.

I don't believe the are available in North America. I believe Sator on SF has touted their dress boot as a good alternative to RMW. He has made the point that Baxter along with RMW, JM Weston & G&G are the only seamless, wholecut chelseas, for what that is worth to people
 
Wore one of my pair of boots and the light was good to show up the shoe shine work.

I can see them cutting out the custom work, cutting the product line to a few basic, popular models and cutting labour costs. Prices may not rise, butt quality will fall and so will variety.

Now might be the time for me to order custom and more exotic boots.
 
RM was already 49.9% owned by LVH since early 2014 and they appointed the previous Oz manager of Levis as CEO. They had an option to buy the rest. Although no official announcement there's also been no denial.

Depending how they handle it, it might mean RM expands and goes upmarket and it's good. At the same time the traditional RM market might open up to Baxters and even Rossi if they can play it right.

My best guess is that the traditional market, work and town boots in rural and regional Australia, is still RMs biggest market with the city and overseas market the growing and potential money spinner for LVH.
