Ask A Quick Question

Thanks for the reccy but an old Italian untailor down the street gave me a solid burgundy silk tie in exchange for helping him with his computer. Would've cost me $75, woo!

Kind of hard to get the color of the pants, but I did my best.

I think first and last represent the colors at best

Like Khakis with dark chocolate wingtips, would they look good? or is it an old man's look? I tried it today and I wasn't convinced...
Pretty classic look. Smart but not stiff in a suit and tie. Casual smart but not jeans.

If you wear a tie make it a knit square end tie with a classic light blue OCBD and say an unstructured navy cotton s/c or a Harrington or Members Only or a brown cord unstructured s/c.

Rather than old man think of it as Dressing Like A Grownup.

You beat me with a crosspost - all look ok - shoes are chunky casual enough to work. Even more chunky gunboat type shoes would be better. do those chinos need taking up a bit - not highwater but less break and perhaps some tapering?

I think the dark brown wingtips look the best. I was going to wear a seersucker shirt, but I wasn't so sure about it or just like you said a Light blue OCBD, but then again I'm not used to use wingtips for casual look either jeans/chinos and drivers/boatshoes or dresspants and wingptips

Taking a strict biblical scholars interpretation - wingtips aren't for dress/business trousers. Especially with that extent of brogueing up above. Y'know toe medallions etc - and, to get all pedantic on you - one pair are NOT technically wingtips at all - they are brogues with medallion and punch captoes.

And they are all closed laced - open lacing would clunk it all down casual nicely - but - they look good anyway. One thing I missed is the context - where are you and what are you doing dressed like that and how old are you (roughly) ?

Think of it as in-between casual and suited. A nice place to be. Smart but approachable . But not as easy as some think. Its a place where Ivy has a lot to offer for inspiration and style/look. I like to be there a lot.

Thanks! I appreciate the explanation, that does help a lot. Government employee, twenties. No coat, no tie, just button down/polo is good enough. Security infrastructure is what I do.

Huge departure from my usual style but will this look good on me? Or am I being Pitti delusional?

I think it could. Certainly depends on what you're pairing it with, but you've got a frame that could work with that pattern.

The jacket's 55 cotton 45 silk.

I'm thinking dark navy or dark charcoal lightweight yet dense cotton twill pants with white plain weave shirt.

Shit, if you look closely at the sleeves you'll notice it has the same too forward pitch problem with arms at rest as the suit I returned today. It's the only real, yet unavoidable, problem with Boglioli. Altering this wouldn't work since the pattern would then misalign.

Time to move on then.

Those who were members were grandfathered in, with the old deal. But he'd stated he'd changed the terms a bit for newcomers. I'm sure if you contacted him nicely, he wouldn't turn you away. He just basically wanted to make it more exclusive.

I'm not entirely sure - didn't follow the WvG thread super-intently - but I've been getting various newsletters w/ 50% off codes for a while

Every time I check his site the stock is always almost non-existent. At least pant-wise.

Ew, if he's a trophy husband then I should be a step below God.
I wonder how his bespoke babies are coming along.

Zé Ferreira Zé Ferreira , can you tell me quickly about WvG, why would I want to buy it? Is it good? Preppy?

nice but $$$

This is true. The quality of Mauro's goods is fantastic, but the price reflects the quality you're getting. I do see he's opened up Rewards Membership though on the site again - it's not listed as a lifetime 50% discount, but rather wholesale pricing (which from what I understand is still basically the same thing).

Mauro's branching into shoes and menswear this year. It's been exciting.

I agree there is quality for $$. Was more trying to help Arnathor Arnathor because he doesn't generally splash out that kind of $$$

Yes, Thruth Thruth is right, I don't have a lot of money to burn, yet.... But I am also pretty picky about things like OCBDs, If I'm lucky I can thrift quality brands, but if I were to throw $$ for retail prices, I'm thinking Kamakura for $79. Other than that, I'm looking at Myhabit, Gilt, Ebay for deals.

I tend to thrift a lot of stuff and wait for sample sales. The next one in my area is May 1-2, company called Throat_Threadz and I usually go looking for $25 Hickey Freeman ties/bowties, or other Made in USA/Italy/Canada accessories. Then, the Coppley sale comes at the end of the month, and that one is a killer.

I would buy Kamakura's at retail if $ allowed. Wonderful shirts.
