Ask A Quick Question

Sorry, forgot about this reply.

You're a Brit, so you might not get this, but you give me a very J.Crew/upper crust of society/white collar on the weekend vibe. Maybe it was the turtleneck.

First off, get a damn pair of jeans. Your quads are NOT so big as to be unable to find some that fit. There are plenty of styles now, along with different types of denim (heavy, light, soft, silk blend, etc.) to fit your particular needs. Jeans go with everything. You need at least one pair in your casual rotation. Maybe some Gustin's?

I spent a whole day jean shopping last year. Literally none of them fit. All were way too tight and low rise, and I went too all kinds of stores. Any recs for higher rise and wider in the quads jeans? Also, silk blend denim sounds cool, where can I get that?

None of this sounds particularly casual. Sounds like office Fridays rolled into the weekend.

What's your definition of casual?

Burn the long sleeve polos. Linen sweaters are nice. You need top of the line? I know you're a big money baller, but why not see if something from H&M or J.Crew (the Brit alternative) works for you before dropping big coin on signature pieces? Seems like you're pretty particular in the style you're going for.

H&M has shit quality and falls apart. I tried on a sweater this weekend there, and the fit was terrible, the material was scratchy as hell, and it just wasn't very appealing. I want my casual wear to feel nice and comfy, while still looking presentable.

What about a leather jacket? About the most versatile piece there is.

I've been thinking about it, but i'm not sure what kind of style to buy. How about an A1 flight jacket replica, maybe in cordovan or something like this:
Eastman Leather Clothing - US Flight Jackets : Original Maker Jackets : A1cape

Monkeyface, go to the H&m online sale section and look for their loose fit, tapered Pure Blue Japan jeans. An absolute godsend.

It's no a collab with Pure Blue Japan, they only used the same common words to mislead people into thinking it were.

Well, regardless of what they're called, they're khaira denim (or however it's spelled) and they are fantastic.

Kaihara, from Hiroshima.

I really like Uniqlo jeans and they're pretty much the only jeans that I wear anymore.

Unfortunately, they changed their fits slightly a few years back and the newer straight cut doesn't fit me as well as the old one did. I've still got a couple of pairs of the old cut folded away in my wardrobe so I'll be set for a few years yet. Hopefully, by the time I need new jeans, they'll have changed their cut again!

Based on what Journeyman Journeyman just posted, how many of you buy 2 of the same item to keep one in reserve in case it is no longer available. I do this a lot.

Would black go well with light khaki chinos? LelandDJ ignore this question please, I don't want to hear about you and your hate for khaki.

Not sure if this count. I have multiple pieces of same Rick basics in different coloraway and fabrics from older seasons.

You're prototypical khaki fanatic, you should go all khaki. Wide hems to cover your hobbit feet.

HAHAHAHAHAHAAHA! I am not, I only have two pairs other chinos are navy blue, olive, grey, black, and so on. I have only asked about this twice, this being the second time.

I tend to only do it with "staple items" that can be easily stored away, such as jeans and OCBD shirts. In addition to the aforementioned Uniqlo jeans, I've got about three OCBD shirts from Land's End's "Hyde Park" range in a plain blue, blue-and-white university stripe and pink-and-white university stripe stored away for when my current ones wear out.

I've also got extra pairs of basic chino shorts in a few different colours from both Uniqlo and LE - beige/light brown/faded green/Nantucket red - as back-ups for when my current shorts wear out.

Sort of in a more broad way. I'm thinking like a pair of denim, a sweater, shirt, jacket x 2. A pair and a spare so to speak

Military says "yes" some iGents says "no". I think there was a SF discussion on this once.

I read it, but since I'm too poor and don't want to get into debt I don't qualify as an iGent hence I ask here,

Are you asking if black boots go with khaki because you still are wavering which purse boots to buy?

LOL! Yes, oh man... You know me too well. Anyways I read this there

"Black leathers tend to be of inferior quality compared to brown and light brown leathers. That's why they dye them black."

Monkey - first off, let me save you some time editing in the future. By selecting what snippet you want the forum software will allow you to add it to the quote reply or multi-quote queue. No need to intersperse a whole quote with bold text. See the tutorial link in my sig if you need screenshots.

Levis. Levis. Levis. The 501 shrink to fit's are what I recommend everyone with big quads. The 508's are a newer style that seems to be popular as well. Gustin isn't bad and their normal size could be worked with. I only really know about US brands. You really only need one or two pairs though, so I wouldn't go hunting down some ultra-luxe shit. Gustin offered a silk-grey denim. It usually sells out pretty fast. They do have some unique shit, so it might be worth signing up for their newsletter. Sweaters, jackets, and shirts too.

What's your definition of casual?
Jeans, shirt, boots. Hell, anything centered around jeans. Think of what you would go for a motorcycle ride in when you weren't going to work.

H&M has shit quality and falls apart. I tried on a sweater this weekend there, and the fit was terrible, the material was scratchy as hell, and it just wasn't very appealing. I want my casual wear to feel nice and comfy, while still looking presentable.
Yes, H&M is shit quality. But I was proposing them as a cheap way to see if a certain type of piece would fit into your wardrobe. Sort of like a test run, if you will. You seem fairly rigid in your style, so buying some $500 piece that you're not sure how you're going to fit in to your outfits isn't the best move. Better to buy a cheap beater version, try it out, and if that works, then upgrade to a quality version that's unique. This way you build through individual pieces that will last without breaking the bank StyleForum style.

I'm not too familiar with Eastman's work, but I've heard good things. The classic makers are Aero, Schott, and Vanson.

I think your style would lend itself to a racer style jacket. Something streamlined, sleek, and without too much fanfare. This is a good example:

Classic Schott Racer Black Leather Motorcycle Jacket in Horsehide 641HH

You could always be a rebel and go with this option:

Easy Rider Striped Leather Motorcycle Jacket - Leather Jacket

Thruth Thruth would like this option. Your fellow Brits would probably think its just colors. Hell, most people would.

You should also look into a Barracuta style jacket and maybe a Belstaff.

Thanks for all of the suggestions, but none of those are available in the UK.

Missed your post Rambo. Cheers! I'll go shopping this weekend weekend, see if I find anything like that.

They ship internationally. I know for a fact that Schott does.

I don't do that anymore. Without fail I get hit with customs fees, VAT and shipping fees. This usually adds up to 50%-60% of the price I bought it at, which doesn't make it attractive. So I only buy from within the EU.

I'm telling you: these

Those look great, but aren't available on the UK website of uniqlo.

Ah, well that's a different story. You could always get someone to proxy for you. I'm always happy to help out. Save that, we need to find you someone who makes quality leather goods in Europe.

ConchitaWurst ConchitaWurst where do you Dutchies buy leather jackets?
