Ask A Quick Question

It will darken for a little bit, thats the only think I can use on the AE Neumoks. Everything else fucks it up. I once put Lexol leather conditioner and I fucked up the shoes. I had to exchange them in nordstrom lololololol

If those are Redwings, I would say just continue to wear them and let them age and dirty up. I think an aged and somewhat beat up work boots look much better than pristine ones.

You think?

Here is a pic of saddle soap used to clean a pair of light coloured Beckmans. Use a gentler clearer. Should have used shoe grease or oil when he got them to protect them.

Jesus. You sure they didn't use motor oil to try and get the stain out???

Looks horrible I know. Saddle soap is alkaline so it can mess up and dry the leather. All soaps alkaline. You have to lather it and it can get in the pores. AE says use it; Saint Crispin's recommends it but the Dehner boot company which has been making cop and army boots for years does not recommend it.

There is lye in saddle soap

The color itself is not the worst, but the placement at the bottom is weird. The pink near the light gray is unflattering and why have the eye-catching color at the waist?

Ask Oliver Spencer. He has lots of weird clothes in his collection, so perhaps it's just for the sake of being weird?

Good call on the RIT whitener Russell Street Russell Street . Soaked my Black fleece and Diors in them over night and they have been brightened.
I have a full load of whites just waiting for when I can use a non-commercial machine with that will allow a long rinse. Maybe I should just do it in the tub.
I'm thinking that the proper order of whitening is bleach, that Rit whitener, and then bluing. It always bugs me that the bluing and bleach can't be done in the same load.

What's bluing?

I was afraid of blotches of discoloration. I soaked the shirts in detergent for 8 hour followed by Rit followed by cold water with a good rinse in between. The result is pretty amazing.

Have been using my Expert Finish iron. The thing has been a beast. I can't believe I didn't just buy a good iron and iron board long time ago. Instead using dry cleaners that ruined a couple of shirts and cracked a few buttons along the way.

What's bluing?
Original Tide powder detergent (Kabbaz recommended it, said powder scrubs better), bleach, bluing (do not use bleach and bluing together!) I've heard of using Boraxo powder and Octagon bar soap but have no firsthand experience.
As best I can tell, it's literally just a blue colored rinse that counteracts the tendency of whites to yellow. The same principle as used on white-haired elderly. It's another one of those things that is likely hidden in the detergent aisle of the local supermarket.

What's bluing?

As Russell said, it adds a touch of blue to the laundry rinse, so as to counteract the tendency of white clothes to become slightly yellow. We always used to have a bottle in the laundry when I was young, so I think that it used to be very common in Australia but with the development of newer laundry detergents with fluorescing agents, laundry blue may largely have fallen by the wayside.

In a related note, my mother always used to put a dab of laundry blue on insect stings as she said that it relieved the sting/itching.

Congratulations - on becoming a man from a boy.

Found another casual Isaia suit I really want, perfect color and design. Only problem is it's an 85 wool 15 poly blend and I've had a strict no synthetic policy since beginning my sartorial pilgrimage. Should I sellout and cave in or stick to my principles?

Has anyone felt this blend before? Does it feel like crap compared to real 100 cool wool?

Don't waver in your convictions

Sounds a bit weird - 15% poly is a fair bit in my experience. It will feel like it - what sort of hand was it?

I want a power suit. Who does a good not very padded roped shoulder RTW and is relatively affordable either full retail or on sale?

Charcoal or navy, smooth worsted, wide notch lapels, roped shoulders, full chest, high rise (pleated) trousers.

Roped shoulders and military creases, crikey.

They have lots of wool/silk/linen, linen/cotton and linen/mohair as well.

Roped shoulders and military creases, crikey.

Military creases are only necessary for fabrics that don't hold a crease naturally. A worsted wool will hold a crease just fine, so no military crease required.

If I wanted wool silk linen I wouldn't have written 50 wool 50 linen. You give me one link to one suit that's a horrible pattern and out of stock.

So question remains unanswered why is it so hard to find.

How about the three wool/linen/cashmere? That tiny percentage of cashmere won't change much. The navy one is quite nice.

Luxire also sells VBC 50/50 wool/linen.

I haven't used Chan for almost three years, so I can't give too much insight as to available fabrics or pricing. If you know the fabric number (and it's from any major supplier), they don't have to have the swatch book on hand for you to place an order. Last time I looked, Chan's prices were about $1,600 for a two-piece suit from one of the "starter" fabrics. I would like to get a few more garments from them, but I am already rather well supplied, and as their prices have gone up, my income has gone down, alas!

Right on cue. Thanks Jan.

Looking for OTR RTW so I can buy on sale. Not interested in $2k for a suit going off swatches and a brand/cut I don't know.

And seriously why is this blend so fucking rare? People probably think it's too casual.
