Ask A Quick Question

Shut the fuck up. I dont wear suits, usually the dub monks and the split toes are for going out and so on. Jeans and bla bla bla. I don't see myself wearing one of those, specially big money for them, but could be?

I hate those shoes, fucking hate them. They are not chunky in a nice way, but in a god awful away.

I thought dubbbmunkkkxxxx were for wearing to Pitti and doing suckjobs?

Do you really need any black shoes? If not, it sounds like you're fairly well set up. I don't think smart black shoes really go that well (in general) with anything less formal than a suit, so there's probably not much point at this stage.

Unless you've got an elderly relative that's not feeling so well? Might be best to be prepared.

Kidding aside, I really think every adult should have a serious business outfit consisting of a conservative dark suit, black oxfords, a white straight collar shirt and some dour tie. Funerals are the classic use, but what if you get a midnight call inviting you to a hookers and blow party right now, black tie optional?

Either or, as long as it's Rain last. Whaddaya say guise?

It seemed as if you were unaware that Vass is in a different stratosphere in terms of price compared to Carmina.

Trying to find a good whole cut for a midnight blue tux. Budget is around 400 bucks. Located in the middle of the US. Suggestings?

Can't get along with wholecuts. I can appreciate there can be epic craftsmanship in good ones, but I just find them creepy.

I agree with that for the most part. I only like them in black tie. Patent and I don't get along and if I buy another pair of black Oxford my wife might murder me.

You never know these days.

You got that right. You see the way some of these fuckers dress on those red carpet things, or people in real life, makes you question whether it really was a good thing that the Cuban Missile Crisis was resolved.

LOL

To be fair they are completely correct for black tie. I feel the same about patent leather, I'd much rather have a well-polished pair of ordinary black shoes.

I just use black oxfords though for black tie.

Doesn't look like Alden or Allen Edmonds have anything. Carmina?

Back ordered for now. I was hoping to get something fairly quick.

I have AE, Loakes 1880 and a cheap J&M Melton cap. She might not understand four shoes that all look the same.

I got some 1880s as well, but in brown. I think they're really good value.

My black ones are Loakes as well. Can't remember the model, it's basically a standard toecap but slightly slimmer and elongated a bit. Nice shoes.

So,

Since Thruth Thruth got me into the shoo bullshit
I have bought the following shoos since I joined this stupid fucking forum

Carmina Tan/Cognac Wingtips
Carmina Burgundy Split toes Bluchers
Yanko Double Monks on Burgundy
Carmina Jumper Boots on scotch grain on brown vegano

I also have a pair of chunky chocolate AE Wingtips

What's next?

I'm not into debt and carmina is as much as I can pay, perhaps Vass? But only Thruth Thruth can help me there?

If this should be in the shoe/bootie thread, please Grand Potentate Grand Potentate move it there
Be careful or you will get shooey advising you on shoos - basically sell your house and buy shoos will be his advice.

Thanks pops! so what else should I get next? I don't have any black shoos. Or should I get something else?
Black shoes are a must. Depends what your needs/work/context is. I think one of the most pleasing shoes is a closed laced punch cap adelaide. But it might be a bit too formal depending on your life. If you rarely get all formal/business then a open laced modest half brogued shoe is more versatile.

It's fine. If anything, snugger than I'm used to in my blobby Allen Edmonds.

FWIW:
I am a 12D US in the Brannock device.
I am an 11.5E in AE's infamous 5 last (Park Ave, Strand)
I am a 12D in AE's 8 last (Carlyle)
I am a 10.5UK in Carmina's Rain last, which is known to be wide by default.

Rain is EE, I don't know how though, they fit very tight on the toe area on one of my feet. The simpsons that I got I had to go half a size bigger and supposedly run tighter than Rain, but they fit a lot better! Robert I think are the ones that fit me the best, but I have only seen that last on boots.

Amen!

The amount of "enabling" and virtual penis-measuring that goes on over on SF is mind-boggling and very depressing at times.

So i guess you will not be interested in my VirtualPenisMeasuring™ app that i was going to post in the classifieds.

It seems in the "old days" of SF people acquired but it did not seem so overt. The AV threads have opened things up for people to post each and every item they buy.

What do you guys think about this oliver spencer pure silk safari shirt jacket and trousers for a more relaxed weekend look? Obviously I wouldn't roll the pants up that high.

Fabric seems nice enough, never liked shirt jackets nor safaris. Buttons on elbows look stupid.

I think they're for keeping the sleeves in place if you roll them up. Could always cut off the buttons if I don't like them. What's wrong with shirt jackets?

Trousers are fine. Don't like Safari shirtjacs. Together it is a peculiar look. To uniform-like. The second fellow can pull it off but you look nothing like the second fellow.

Shirt jackets are fine with upper flap pockets and slash side pockets
