Woman alleges Cosby raped her -- and other Playboy bunnies

(CNN) -- By the late 1960s, Bill Cosby was a married man well on his way to having five children, not to mention a landmark career in stand-up comedy, television and beyond.
He was also no stranger to Playboy.
Now that connection is among those coming back to him, as more and more women -- at least 21, by CNN's count -- accuse him of sexual misconduct. Many of them claim the legendary comedian drugged and raped them.
Among Cosby's accusers is Judy Huth, who recently sued Cosby alleging he sexually molested her at the Playboy Mansion when she was 15 years old. Another woman who worked as a server, or "bunny," at a Playboy club accused Cosby of forcibly kissing her, and a former Playboy playmate alleged he drugged and raped her.
And, P.J. Masten, one of the two ex-bunnies who have publicly accused Cosby of sexual assault, told CNN's Alisyn Camerota that there are other women who have not come forward, or will not.
"(There are) 12 former bunnies that I know of that are ashamed to come forward, frightened to come forward, married with families (and) don't want to come forward." Masten said. "But they were also drugged and raped by Bill Cosby."
Cosby's camp didn't respond to a CNN request for comment on Masten's allegation, though his lawyer has repeatedly and strongly denied such accusations in recent weeks. Notably, too, none of the accusers is known to have immediately gone to law enforcement, nor has Cosby been ever charged with a crime.
As to Playboy, Masten says she told her supervisor soon after she claimed Cosby had drugged and raped her at a Chicago hotel.
"She said to me, 'You know that's Hef's best friend, right?'" Masten recounted, referring to Playboy founder Hugh Hefner. "I said, 'Yes.' She said, 'Well, nobody is going to believe you. I suggest you keep your mouth shut.'"
Hefner responded to the allegations in a statement Friday, saying "Bill Cosby has been a good friend for many years and the mere thought of these allegations is truly saddening. I would never tolerate this kind of behavior, regardless of who was involved."
The new accusations could further sullythe reputation of Cosby -- the man behind children's programming like "Fat Albert" and "Little Bill," and whose eponymous No. 1 sitcom, "The Cosby Show," cast him as a wisecracking, doting family man.

Open the centerfold of a Playboy magazine, and you might glimpse a "playmate" oftentimes nude and sometimes living or near Hefner's mansion in Los Angeles.
P.J. Masten was a "bunny." Or, in other words, she was a waitress -- albeit one in 3-inch high heels, 5-inch bunny ears and a tight-fitting costume.
She was in her 20s when, in 1972, she began working at a Playboy club in northern New Jersey. Masten would end up working at similar clubs in Los Angeles and Chicago.
It was in Chicago that Cosby invited her out to lunch one afternoon, even jumping behind the counter to make hot dogs.
"Everybody was in there laughing," Masten recalled. "It was a lot of fun."
The comedian called the next day, asking her out to dinner and to meet her at the Whitehall Hotel. Masten went up to his room -- not suspicious at all, she said -- and four of Cosby's friends were with him watching sports, smoking cigars and playing cards.
Cosby asked Masten if she wanted a cocktail before dinner, preparing a glass of Grand Marnier and ice behind her. She took it and drank it, she said.
"The next thing I knew, it was 4 o'clock in the morning," she alleged. "I woke up in a bed naked, bruised. He was laying next to me, and I slithered out of the bed... I got myself together, I went downstairs, I got in a cab, and I went home."
Asked by CNN's Camerota what she think happened, Masten didn't hesitate.
"There were bruise marks all over me," she claimed. "I knew I was raped."
Several other public accusers with Playboy connection
Masten said she's been in therapy for years, trying to salve her emotional wounds. But it's only now, about four decades later, that she's decided to come public -- feeling compelled to act after hearing about Huth.
"That was it for me," Masten said. "This man has to be held accountable. He's a serial rapist. He's been that way since the '60s."
Huth's story also has a Playboy connection. In her lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, she claims that Cosby met her and a 16-year-old friend when he was filming a movie in the Southern California city's Lacy Park.
He invited them to his tennis club, serving them alcoholic beverages there, then took them to the Playboy Mansion, according to the lawsuit.
Huth claims Cosby sexually molested her after she came out of a bathroom there, alleging his actions were "malicious, oppressive and fraudulent."
The comedian's lawyer, Martin D. Singer, has since filed a pleading calling Huth's claims "absolutely false" and accusing her of attempted extortion.
Another accuser, Carla Ferrigno, says she was an 18-year-old Playboy bunny when she went with a male friend to Cosby's Beverly Hills home in 1967 and kissed her roughly after her date left the room.
Playboy playmate Victoria Valentino says a friend introduced her to Cosby hoping to help her get work on his show "I Spy" in the late 1960s. She alleges he gave her pills at dinner to "cheer up," after which she felt "stoned" as he took her to another place.
There, Valentino said Cosby pushed himself near her mouth, before turning her around and raping her.
Asked by CNN why she didn't speak out about the incident until recently, Valentino said, "As a playmate, I thought, who would believe me?"
Masten is convinced there are other women with ties to Playboy who have similar stories.
She said Cosby has come up at a recent reunion of Playboy bunnies, as well as in blogs and Facebook pages restricted to them.
The public allegations stirred up lots of private conversations, involving a number of women, Masten says.
"A couple of (them) private messaged me and said, 'He did me too. It happened to me, too.'"

Thirty years ago this fall, The Cosby Showdebuted on NBC, and its star was catapulted into the comedic stratosphere. The timing is prime, then, for the release of a sprawling biography. Written by former Newsweek editor Mark Whitaker, Cosby: His Life and Timesdocuments the man’s rise from the Philadelphia projects, while also detailing the creation of his family sitcom and the murder of his son Ennis in 1997.
The book is notable, however, for its complete avoidance of sexual abuse allegations that have dogged Cosby for more than a decade. In a statement to Buzzfeed's Kate Aurthur, Whitaker says, "I didn’t want to print allegations that I couldn’t confirm independently." Regardless, their absence is glaring. Consider the following timeline an appendix to the book.
November 2002
Andrea Constand, director of operations for Temple University’s women’s basketball team, allegedly met with Bill Cosby. Constand claims that Cosby, who had been a member of Temple’s track and field and football teams, assumed a role as her mentor.
January 2004
According to Constand, she visited Cosby at his Cheltenham, Pennsylvania, home to discuss career advice, and after allegedly (according to a civil lawsuit she would later file) giving her "herbal" pills to ease her anxiety, Cosby “touched her breasts and vaginal area, rubbed his penis against her hand, and digitally penetrated” her.

Constand, who had since moved near Torontoto study massage therapy, accuses Cosby of "inappropriate touching" —groping her breasts and placing her hand on his genitals — to Canadian authorities.Cosby’s lawyer calls her allegation "utterly preposterous" and "plainly bizarre.”

Tamara Green, a California lawyer, appears on the Today show and allegesthat Cosby drugged and sexually assaulted her in the 1970s.Green tells Matt Lauer that Cosby, who had given her pills to combat a fever, drove her to her apartment and began “… groping me and kissing me and touching me and handling me and … taking off my clothes.” According to Green, Cosby left two $100 bills on her coffee table afterwards. Cosby’s lawyer issues a statement: “Miss Green’s allegations are absolutely false. Mr. Cosby does not know the name Tamara Green or Tamara Lucier [her maiden name], and the incident she describes did not happen. The fact that she may have repeated this story to others is not corroboration.”

Citing a lack of evidence, the investigating district attorney in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, announces he will not act on Constand’s accusation and bring criminal charges against Cosby.
March 8, 2005
Constand files a civil complaint against Cosby. The five-count lawsuit charges Cosby with battery and assault, and asks for at least $150,000 in damages. Thirteen women who allege similar experiences as Constand and Green are mentioned in court papers as Jane Doe witnesses.
May 2005
In Constand’s civil lawsuit, she alleges the comedian gave her three blue pills, which he said was herbal medication. Cosby’s lawyers, however, issue a court filing and attempt to clarify that the comedian merely gave Constand one and a half tablets of Benadryl.
June 2005Jane Doe 5 goes public. Beth Ferrier claims she was in a relationship with Cosby in the mid-1980s, one that ended when he allegedly drugged her coffee and Ferrier woke in a car. “My clothes were a mess. My bra was undone. My top was untucked. And I'm sitting there going, 'Oh my God. Where am I?' What's going on? I was so out of it. It was just awful."
February 2006While in the midst of her civil suit, Constand sues one of Cosby’s lawyers — and the National Enquirer — for defamation. Cosby had spoken to the tabloid the year before, and Constand claimed the interview defamed her as it “[intended] to or knowing it would injure” her.

Philadelphia magazine interviews another witness in Constand’s lawsuit, Barbara Bowman. “Cosby threw me on the bed and braced his forearm against my neck and attempted to disrobe me and himself,” she said. “I can still remember him messing with his belt. And I was screaming and crying and yelling and begging him to stop.”

Cosby settles with Constand. Terms are not disclosed, and none of the 13 other women testify.

The following month, People magazine publishes Bowman's account of several assaults: "It was in a hotel in Reno, claims Bowman, that Cosby assaulted her one night in 1986. 'He took my hand and his hand over it, and he masturbated with his hand over my hand,' says Bowman, who, although terrified, kept quiet about the incident and continued as Cosby's protégé because, she says, 'Who's gonna believe this? He was a powerful man. He was like the president.' Before long she was alone with Cosby again in his Manhattan townhouse; she was given a glass of red wine, and "the next thing I know, I'm sick and I'm nauseous and I'm delusional and I'm limp and ... I can't think straight.... And I just came to, and I'm wearing a [men's] T-shirt that wasn't mine, and he was in a white robe.'"
That same People article reports that three of the Jane Does from the March 2005 case accepted cash from Cosby for years, and two others began consensual sexual relationships with Cosby.
February 2014
Katie Baker of Newsweek — Whitaker’s former employer — interviews both Green and Bowman about the alleged assaults. Bowman tells Baker she was disappointed in the settlement, and Green recounts running into and accosting Cosby in Las Vegas, yelling, “Rapist! Liar! Asshole!” While Cosby doesn’t issue a statement regarding Bowman’s claims, his publicist responds to Green, “This is a 10-year-old, discredited accusation that proved to be nothing at the time, and is still nothing.”

On Entertainment Tonight, supermodel Janice Dickinson becomes the next woman to accuse Cosby of sexual abuse, saying the comedian drugged and raped her in 1982. She recalls Cosby giving her wine and a pill, which he told her were for menstrual cramps: "Before I woke up in the morning, the last thing I remember was Bill Cosby in a patchwork robe, dropping his robe and getting on top of me. And I remember a lot of pain. The next morning I remember waking up with my pajamas off and there was semen in between my legs." Dickinson alluded to the event in her 2002 memoir, and later told Howard Stern she was asked to change the text to show Cosby in a better light.

Nearly all remnants of Cosby vanish from the airwaves as TV Land pulls all Cosby Show reruns from its schedule and NBC scraps the sitcom it was developing with him.
The Associated Press releases video of a November 6 interview in which Cosby tells an AP interviewer to "scuttle" footage of him refusing to comment on the charges. "If you want to consider yourself to be serious," he says, "it will not appear anywhere." Cosby later says he "thought AP had the integrity to not ask."
November 20, 2014A hoax website publishes a story saying Raven-Symoné was abused by Cosby as a child. Symoné disputes the rumor on Instagram: "I was NOT taking [sic] advantage of by Mr. Cosby when I was on the Cosby Show! I was practically a baby on that show and this is truly a disgusting rumor that I want no part of! Everyone on that show treated me with nothing but kindness. Now keep me out of this!"
Three additional women accuse Cosby of sexual assault: Carla Ferrigno, wife and manager of Incredible Hulk actor Lou Ferrigno, says Cosby "attacked" her when she was a teenager, grabbing and kissing her at a 1967 party; Love, American Styleactress Louisa Moritz tells TMZ that Cosby forced her to perform oral sex on him in a Tonight Show green-room in 1971; and nurse Theresa Serignese claims Cosby drugged and raped her in 1976. Serignese was one of 13 Jane Does in the 2005 court case, while Ferrigno and Moritz provide new allegations.
In another statement, Cosby's lawyer condemns the "media-driven feeding frenzy" and calls the latest round of allegations "utter nonsense." As he writes, "People are trying to come up with these wild stories in order to justify why they have waited 40 to 50 years to disclose these ridiculous accusations."

All tell similar stories: Kristina Ruehli says Cosby spiked her bourbon and forced her to perform oral sex in 1965; Picture Pagesactress Renita Chaney Hill alleges Cosby drugged and assaulted her multiple times when she was a teenager; and model Angela Leslie contends that Cosby invited her to his Las Vegas hotel room in 1992, got naked, then forced her to masturbate him.
Multiple theaters cancel upcoming appearances by Cosby, including the Treasure Island Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and the Virginia Theater in Illinois.

A week later, she says, the comedian took them to a party at the Playboy Mansion. There, Huth claims Cosby told her to lie about her age; then, when the two were alone, Cosby stuck his hand down her pants and forced her to masturbate him. Huth is the first accuser in nearly a decade to get the legal system involved: She's suing Cosby for damages based on the "psychological damage and mental anguish" she says she received. Huth cannot file criminal charges against the star, as the alleged incident took place before 1988.

Thirty years ago this fall, The Cosby Showdebuted on NBC, and its star was catapulted into the comedic stratosphere. The timing is prime, then, for the release of a sprawling biography. Written by former Newsweek editor Mark Whitaker, Cosby: His Life and Timesdocuments the man’s rise from the Philadelphia projects, while also detailing the creation of his family sitcom and the murder of his son Ennis in 1997.
The book is notable, however, for its complete avoidance of sexual abuse allegations that have dogged Cosby for more than a decade. In a statement to Buzzfeed's Kate Aurthur, Whitaker says, "I didn’t want to print allegations that I couldn’t confirm independently." Regardless, their absence is glaring. Consider the following timeline an appendix to the book.
November 2002
Andrea Constand, director of operations for Temple University’s women’s basketball team, allegedly met with Bill Cosby. Constand claims that Cosby, who had been a member of Temple’s track and field and football teams, assumed a role as her mentor.
January 2004
According to Constand, she visited Cosby at his Cheltenham, Pennsylvania, home to discuss career advice, and after allegedly (according to a civil lawsuit she would later file) giving her "herbal" pills to ease her anxiety, Cosby “touched her breasts and vaginal area, rubbed his penis against her hand, and digitally penetrated” her.
January 13, 2005
Constand, who had since moved near Torontoto study massage therapy, accuses Cosby of "inappropriate touching" —groping her breasts and placing her hand on his genitals — to Canadian authorities.Cosby’s lawyer calls her allegation "utterly preposterous" and "plainly bizarre.”

Tamara Green, a California lawyer, appears on the Today show and allegesthat Cosby drugged and sexually assaulted her in the 1970s.Green tells Matt Lauer that Cosby, who had given her pills to combat a fever, drove her to her apartment and began “… groping me and kissing me and touching me and handling me and … taking off my clothes.” According to Green, Cosby left two $100 bills on her coffee table afterwards. Cosby’s lawyer issues a statement: “Miss Green’s allegations are absolutely false. Mr. Cosby does not know the name Tamara Green or Tamara Lucier [her maiden name], and the incident she describes did not happen. The fact that she may have repeated this story to others is not corroboration.”

Citing a lack of evidence, the investigating district attorney in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, announces he will not act on Constand’s accusation and bring criminal charges against Cosby.
March 8, 2005
Constand files a civil complaint against Cosby. The five-count lawsuit charges Cosby with battery and assault, and asks for at least $150,000 in damages. Thirteen women who allege similar experiences as Constand and Green are mentioned in court papers as Jane Doe witnesses.
May 2005
In Constand’s civil lawsuit, she alleges the comedian gave her three blue pills, which he said was herbal medication. Cosby’s lawyers, however, issue a court filing and attempt to clarify that the comedian merely gave Constand one and a half tablets of Benadryl.
June 2005Jane Doe 5 goes public. Beth Ferrier claims she was in a relationship with Cosby in the mid-1980s, one that ended when he allegedly drugged her coffee and Ferrier woke in a car. “My clothes were a mess. My bra was undone. My top was untucked. And I'm sitting there going, 'Oh my God. Where am I?' What's going on? I was so out of it. It was just awful."
February 2006While in the midst of her civil suit, Constand sues one of Cosby’s lawyers — and the National Enquirer — for defamation. Cosby had spoken to the tabloid the year before, and Constand claimed the interview defamed her as it “[intended] to or knowing it would injure” her.
June 2006*
Philadelphia magazine interviews another witness in Constand’s lawsuit, Barbara Bowman. “Cosby threw me on the bed and braced his forearm against my neck and attempted to disrobe me and himself,” she said. “I can still remember him messing with his belt. And I was screaming and crying and yelling and begging him to stop.”
November 2006
Cosby settles with Constand. Terms are not disclosed, and none of the 13 other women testify.
December 2006
The following month, People magazine publishes Bowman's account of several assaults: "It was in a hotel in Reno, claims Bowman, that Cosby assaulted her one night in 1986. 'He took my hand and his hand over it, and he masturbated with his hand over my hand,' says Bowman, who, although terrified, kept quiet about the incident and continued as Cosby's protégé because, she says, 'Who's gonna believe this? He was a powerful man. He was like the president.' Before long she was alone with Cosby again in his Manhattan townhouse; she was given a glass of red wine, and "the next thing I know, I'm sick and I'm nauseous and I'm delusional and I'm limp and ... I can't think straight.... And I just came to, and I'm wearing a [men's] T-shirt that wasn't mine, and he was in a white robe.'"
That same People article reports that three of the Jane Does from the March 2005 case accepted cash from Cosby for years, and two others began consensual sexual relationships with Cosby.
February 2014
Katie Baker of Newsweek — Whitaker’s former employer — interviews both Green and Bowman about the alleged assaults. Bowman tells Baker she was disappointed in the settlement, and Green recounts running into and accosting Cosby in Las Vegas, yelling, “Rapist! Liar! Asshole!” While Cosby doesn’t issue a statement regarding Bowman’s claims, his publicist responds to Green, “This is a 10-year-old, discredited accusation that proved to be nothing at the time, and is still nothing.”

Comedian Hannibal Buress does an extended bit about the rape charges in Cosby's home town of Philadelphia. "Bill Cosby has the fucking smuggest old black man public persona that I hate," Buress says. The Associated Press releases video of a November 6 interview in which Cosby tells an AP interviewer to "scuttle" footage of him refusing to comment on the charges. "If you want to consider yourself to be serious," he says, "it will not appear anywhere." Cosby later says he "thought AP had the integrity to not ask."
November 20, 2014A hoax website publishes a story saying Raven-Symoné was abused by Cosby as a child. Symoné disputes the rumor on Instagram: "I was NOT taking [sic] advantage of by Mr. Cosby when I was on the Cosby Show! I was practically a baby on that show and this is truly a disgusting rumor that I want no part of! Everyone on that show treated me with nothing but kindness. Now keep me out of this!"
Three additional women accuse Cosby of sexual assault: Carla Ferrigno, wife and manager of Incredible Hulk actor Lou Ferrigno, says Cosby "attacked" her when she was a teenager, grabbing and kissing her at a 1967 party; Love, American Styleactress Louisa Moritz tells TMZ that Cosby forced her to perform oral sex on him in a Tonight Show green-room in 1971; and nurse Theresa Serignese claims Cosby drugged and raped her in 1976. Serignese was one of 13 Jane Does in the 2005 court case, while Ferrigno and Moritz provide new allegations.
In another statement, Cosby's lawyer condemns the "media-driven feeding frenzy" and calls the latest round of allegations "utter nonsense." As he writes, "People are trying to come up with these wild stories in order to justify why they have waited 40 to 50 years to disclose these ridiculous accusations."

A new sexual assault claim against Bill Cosby has surfaced from a woman who said she was drugged at the Playboy Mansion and woke to find the comedian licking and kissing her toes. The attack allegedly happened in 2008, which puts the claim within California’s statute of limitations for criminal charges.
Chloe Goins told the Daily Mail she plans to make a full statement to Los Angeles police. An LAPD representative could not be reached for comment.
Goins said she was 18 years old when she attended a party with a girlfriend at the famous Los Angeles home of Hugh Hefner. There, Goins said Hefner introduced the women to Cosby, who engaged them in conversation and allegedly gave them drinks.
“I wasn't really supposed to drink because of my age, but I was like, okay, cool. I thought I'd got a drink on the side,” Goins told the newspaper, then “everything kind of went a little foggy, I started feeling sick to my stomach and just dizzy.”
Goins said Cosby escorted her to one of the mansion’s many bedrooms so she could rest, but she does not remember entering the bedroom. Goins said her next memory was waking up “butt naked” on a bed with a half-naked Cosby hunched over her, licking her toes and pleasuring himself.

“I came to and remember seeing this big man crouched over me. It was Bill Cosby, and he was at my feet, kind of licking and kissing them and I think he bit my toe as that's what woke me up,” Goins told the Daily Mail.
Cosby allegedly jumped up, pulled up his pants and left the room. Goins said she believed Cosby had groped her body and licked her breasts.
More than 20 women have publicly claimed the comedian drugged and/or sexually assaulted them over a period spanning several decades. One of those women has filed a police report and lawsuit in Los Angeles against Cosby, alleging he assaulted her at the Playboy Mansion in 1974, when she was 15 years old.
Cosby’s lawyer, Martin Singer, has denied the women’s claims and questioned the accusers' credibility. Singer did not respond to a request for comment on Goins’ claim.
Cosby has remained mostly silent about the allegations, though he commented in an interview over the weekend that the “black media” should remain “neutral” on the charges against him.
On Monday, Cosby's wife, Camille, issued a statement defending her husband as “the man you thought you knew.”

The whole notion of Cosby procuring his own rapes is what I find most implausible. The entertainment industry provides their stars with drugs, sex, etc. At least when at his peak, they'd send underage cokeheads of all flavors in through his garage or dressing room back door as a perk. His hunting out his own is akin to shoplifting Twinkies when there's a catered dessert table in your hotel suite.

Attorneys for Goins, who was 18 years old at the time of the alleged assault in 2008, told NBC that she is the sole Cosby accuser who "could be within the statute of limitations to levy criminal and civil charges against the actor."
As Vox's Amanda Taub has explained, many of the other alleged incidents (see the full list below) took place so long ago that state statutes of limitation preclude charges based on them.
So, if it's true that Goins' claim falls within the statute of limitations, this development could change the analysis of whether there's any real chance that Cosby will every be arrested, and the conclusion of those like Slate's Hanna Rosin, that legal justice was an impossibility and "publicly shaming Cosby is the best we can do."
In fact, the news has already sparked speculation about how much jail time the 77-year-old comedian could face if convicted. (According to the Daily Mail, California law would provide for up to 48 months in jail as well as a possible $10,000 fine.)

- Chloe Goins, a woman who says Bill Cosby drugged and sexually assaulted her at a 2008 party at the Playboy Mansion, has filed a police report about her claims and plans to pursue criminal charges, NBC Los Angeles reported Wednesday.
- According to her lawyer, she met with LAPD detectives Wednesday morning to detail her allegations.
- Goins, one of more than 15 women to accuse Cosby of similar conduct, told the Daily Mail in a December 2014 interview that after accepting a drink from Cosby, she woke up naked to find him licking her feet with his pants around his ankles, and "pleasuring himself."
Attorneys for Goins, who was 18 years old at the time of the alleged assault in 2008, told NBC that she is the sole Cosby accuser who "could be within the statute of limitations to levy criminal and civil charges against the actor."
As Vox's Amanda Taub has explained, many of the other alleged incidents (see the full list below) took place so long ago that state statutes of limitation preclude charges based on them.
So, if it's true that Goins' claim falls within the statute of limitations, this development could change the analysis of whether there's any real chance that Cosby will every be arrested, and the conclusion of those like Slate's Hanna Rosin, that legal justice was an impossibility and "publicly shaming Cosby is the best we can do."
In fact, the news has already sparked speculation about how much jail time the 77-year-old comedian could face if convicted. (According to the Daily Mail, California law would provide for up to 48 months in jail as well as a possible $10,000 fine.)
