College Football & NFL 2025

Sam Darnold just cost himself his #1 job and millions by shitting the bed against the Lions.

I don't know that was a fluky kind of game with a bunch of weird shit happening. If he shits the bed next week then I'd agree.

if they win I think they’ll resign him and trade JJ. If they lose then it’ll be a toss up.
win or lose, he is done. They are not going to give him $40+ mil per year in a long term deal. Tag and trade at best. But even that is no longer a guarantee. He was the failure Darnold. Don't forget all the previous retreads. All he has done is benefit from a good offensive scheme but O'Connell shit the bed too in playcalling.

I can't disagree but sentiment goes a long way. If he performs well and gets them a win I could see the base rallying around him. Everyone there seems to love him and they could get an absolute haul for JJ.

hahahaha. Have you heard the base since the game? They are calling for O'Connell to be fired! They have turned on Darnold and have invoked the chokes of the past and how this one ranks right up there. And I'm knee-deep in the Viking hoopla for 40+ years.

Oh I didn't know you were a Vikings fan. No, I had no idea of what it was like on the ground. I do know they haven't exactly had playoff success in a while though, so I could see that being a big thing.

Bud Grant coached in Winnipeg before Minneapolis and I grew up in Winterpeg. It's in the sports genes.

McCarthy is the highest draft pick for the team ever - even though I think he is going to be a bust - but rookie $ makes it easier to deal with mediocrity when it comes as opposed to premium $. The chatter does not favour forgiveness even if they beat the Rams. Lots of QB retreads in team history. A huge sore point especially if people remember the Tarkenton and Kramer eras. BTW, you can drink with Kramer pretty easily in the Twin Cities and probably include Duluth-Superior too.

Very true, the rookie QB contract is literally the most valuable thing in the NFL right now. Why do you think he's going to suck?

I completely expected and accepted it as per normal. A win would have muddied what to do with Darnold, so the loss saved a horrible investment in him. They need an entire new OL and work on the DL + the secondary.
I honestly felt a little bad for Darnold there. He looked like he was having flashbacks to Nam.

Those wild staring eyes. Like waking up from a wonderful dream only to still be a fraud. I feel bad because he costs himself tens of millions of future dollars.

He really did. Last two weeks went from $30mil a year to maybe $5mil. It’s sad but I guess this is just who he is at the end of the day.

And he still will make $5+ million per year despite him being a train wreck. There is chatter about him going to the Steelers.

And when Glenn gets his gig, the sound you hear is the Lion's Super Bowl window slamming shut.
Well, to be fair, this is the Lions after all. Much like the Vikings in that regard...

I did feel a bit bad for them after they lost another defensive starter. They had a guy out there at corner playing his first snaps of the season!

exactly. that is why they need to STFU about next year and being greater. the only one and done 15 win team in history

interesting
Prediction. If not the Steelers, Darnold to the Raiders. Their current QB room is full of special needs cases. They have pick #6 in a poor QB draft year for blue chips. They would have to move up and that would be expensive and Shedeur ain't going to light the league on fire. Ward may be good, but that is pretty much it. They have something like $100 mil of cape space. They are prone to making stupid deals. They could draft a "project" and get by with Darnold being better than than anyone they have.

But of course, there are more than a handful of teams that need a QB1 so any crazy outcome is still. Seattle could trade/for or outright sign Darnold and make money by turfing Geno and get an equivalent that is 7 years younger.

Seems the consensus is that Darnold is worth Baker Mayfield in terms of $$ and contract length. But Baker is better than Darnold

Glenn to the Jets.

that's nuts. Baker is ABSOLUTELY better than Darnold. Hell, I'd take Baker over everyone except about 5 quarterbacks, not including the recent rookies.
