Disagreeable Menswear Post Of The Day

https://journal.styleforum.net/take-a-summer-vacation-from-your-usual-wardrobe/

has some great classic photos interspersed with a bunch of claptrap, but this is the end result of it all:

and my personal favorite

I think this is spot on for linen trousers.

There's a whiff of William Burroughs, Brion Gysin and the male brothels of Tangiers in them there pants. When travelling in foreign climes, one must always maintain dignity and a touch of class:

Never go full native what with cultural appropriation and all that.

I just clicked the link Rambo posted, and some of those older illustrations are cool in that they have a retro vibe, but are pretty out there. This guy's outfits seem comparatively tame. I'd wear his stuff before a pith helmet.

Amazing what cropping will do for you. Head appears much smaller in the cropped one.

Also, how the fuck is this guy choosing excerpts from the interviews?! That was inane.

Edit: I figured out what was bugging me about his sentence (though his English is infinitely better than my Belgian). It doesn’t make sense to use “always” and “since” to refer to the same subject since they are mutually exclusive.

I think that his head looks larger in the full-length photo because his trousers are so very thin and tight, they make his head look bigger!

That's interesting, I am wondering: How would you have phrased that? And isn't it redundant instead of mutually exclusive (or whatever the opposite of m.e. is)? As in: "I always liked a good suit" = "Since I was little I liked a good suit"

“Since” suggests that there was a time when something wasn’t a case. “Always” suggests that there was never a time when something wasn’t the case.

But colloquially, I think they are also redundant in this case.

I’m not sure which is the source of its awkwardness.

It should say "I have always liked a good suit, since I was little"

The midlife crisis thing is bullshit...

Right, and the best medicine is an endless bag of charlie as prior posting and a Carrera S Cabrio or Targa and a book no return to Marbella or Altea Hills port of Campomames.

Ah, they're reacting to that negative review on Amazon.

One still wonders where Jacomet makes his money though. He doesn't seem to have a job aside from blogging and writing a book every four years.

He said was former tv report, since he is francmason ( for real) and proud member of France Socialist Party ( no joke, you can read it), I assume he did any scam or fraud of public funds as all those evildoers do or receive funds of any fake parasite non gub association for doing reports of how good algerians are, bla bla bla.

Soros is his suggar daddy for Kalergi plan. Tons around. Public enemy as just in Hell mcCain, a descendant of first ever psychopath, Cain.

What do we think about SC's latest commission?

Why would one order a suit that is not flattering at all?
Shoulders too narrow, the usual over-suppression of the side seams, trousers too narrow and too short.
Does SC think that his bum is the best part of his body and it needs to accentuated? (probably a rethorical question and the answer is "Yes!")

Unless that dude commissions bigger shoulders and smaller hips who gives a fuck.

I think a Tom Ford (or even Ralph Lauren Purple Label) suit would have worked better, if he's into the dramatic look. Shoulders would have been more extended, and a bit more structured. And in the case of TF, the lapel gorge would have been a bit lower.

The problem, as I see it, is that he's a bit on the narrower side (shoulder width), so the lapels / gorge height are highlighting just that. The whole point of large / wide peak lapels is to create a masculine look, that highlight wide and powerful shoulders.

People can shit on Tom Ford for selling expensive/overpriced suits and coats, but he's really good at making regular dudes look more masculine.

As others have noted, the heavily roped shoulders are the first thing you notice.

£5000 too. Expensive but apparently you could pay £6500 if you got another of their tailors.

For that kind of money it’s just atrocious isn’t it?
The amount of sycophants replying to his posts who have all swallowed the kool aid amazes me too.
His blog isn’t even particularly informative it’s just a huge ‘look at me you plebs, and all the expensive stuff I have’ written by a clueless, condescending parvenue.

^Quite like the brown suit with patch pockets. The black shoes and flowery shirt make for a hideous outfit, though.

The Minnis Fresco in tobacco from S&M was probably the hit of the season for their fanboys. It was sold as separates but does look better as a suit.

The shirt and shoes though ...

Yes it is atrocious. If I had the kind of money for a suit I would expect it to be exceptional even if it was understated. The arms on Crompton’s jacket do not seem to hang properly - they bulge and twist. The sycophants know the cost of everything but are not so well able to comment on the appearance and quality of the various garments he showcases. The numbers of the sycophants seem to be growing though.
