Thanks for that. Had a hard day and this cheered me up. I really should follow DFWII more closely he always amuses with his cranky attitude. I'm sure he can make good boots and has a lot of skills but he just can't accept that others have experience that's different to his.

I always imagine him wearing jeans and, well made, cowboy boots 24/7 and with an unkempt white beard and living in a regional largish town, not a big city. This is based on nothing more than reading his posts. It would be great to see an epic thread with him and the Foo. Both have an equally high regard for themselves and low regard for others.

Should this be in trainwreck thread?

I think you will find that DFWII is out in ice and snow on his leather soles and they are just fine. Thats what he tells us anyway.
Then again, he is not just any old American.
DFWII the man that gave igents 'Gemming failure" a problem they previously hadn't even heard of.

I think it's the combination of wetness, salt and other city dirt that kills leather soles.

The only 3 people who can use leather soles on ice & snow are and like it are: DWF, Walker & the dude from Crane's who was a member here and wore his Wolverine 1000 Mile boots in all kinds of hunting situation. I am sure there are more. I can't. Urban or country.
 
actually, everyone can and of course DWF is totally right in this regard. his view is less refined than mine, though. starro is on a good way.

understood, I don't wear leather soles in really bad conditions and/or in winter, no, I don't. I take care of the soles and don't lose it, when the conditions change. I despise dainite and topy, I tried the latter and its a half-assed measure, which doesn't suffice. DWF gave the answers and I approve of it.
