Formosa's youngsters are having trouble with Salmon's tail. Do you think open vents are aimed to more freedom of movement? In this case neapolitans seem to have achieved the british tailoring maxim of "Form follows function".

The coat clearly needs to be longer, for a start. Secondly, it should be let out by a couple of inches or so at the back. When you have a jutting arse --- sorry "prominent seat" --- the last thing you want is a coat that follows every curve of your body. But herein, alas, lies the unbridgeable gap between Neapolitan aesthetic aspirations and British functionality. These damn Neapolitans seem to think we all have a male model's physique. Strange, given that the Neapolitans themselves are of Southern stock (god help us all). Be that as it may. I like the fabric there.

How many neapolitan tailors have you tried - or talked to? Or is your opinion based on internet pictures of neapolitan tailoring?

Dear Cesare,

Interesting to know what tailors you've tested in your long life? Excepted the old master Iorio (top top value for money indeed) and Ripense. The "mystery bespoke tailor" answer is forbidden of course.

No ripense, no no
Absolute loyalty to the old master iorio, happy with the results and the prices, why try anyone else?
Except for the british tailors- they are teasing me a lot

my opinion's based on internet pictures of Neapolitan ice cream

I hear the Smurf flavour is big down there...

And fruits of the forest, a double scoop!

I meant to say "these damn Neapolitan-worshipping #internet #influencers".

And on this point, maximum respect to that Juho Rehakka bloke.

He's the only person I've ever seen who's managed to wear a pair of C&J's shoes and make them look like tasselled Italian loafers.

Heroic, even.

Has a bit of a Huntsman thing about it...

He looks quite thin, and may have square-ish shoulders....

Not my cup of tea, but better than some of the Neapolitan shit that's posted on here and elsewhere...

I thought all that fan-boy stuff had burned itself out? All that, look at me Ma! pictures of themselves eating brick-oven on their first visit to Naples to see the Maestro, all excited.

...chuckles...

I can see why:

Hold on there. He's Irish. We're not claiming him!

As for 'Craptom' - after all the dozens of tailors he's cozied up to, what's the point of taking a punt on more and more other than to blather on about them on his blog? Surely by now he must have found a tailor who can knock up a jacket to his specifications and take care of his sloping shoulders and sticky-out arse without having to trawl around the world in search of the holy grail of tailors.

Crompton has sanitised his blog, and taken down most of the early reviews. It would be nice if he explained why.

It's all about the mulah. Having 23 sponsors whom you charge between 200 and 500£ a month is a good enough reason to keep going. Add the odd puff piece to it and you'll soon move to a gentrified neighbourhood a bit further away from the islamists.

Someone on here I think mentioned a responder to his blog who pulled him up for charging 500 Euros for his write up on Ambriosi. He passed that off saying it was to cover travel expenses for him and his photographer, and that he spreads the cost of a trip among several vendors on whom he then writes 'totally unbiased' reviews.

Let's be honest, he seems to have carved out an enviably lucrative corner of the Internet for himself while getting all his seemingly endless collection of expensive brown suits and brown jackets made for free or on the cheap.

While I have never wanted to be a blogger and am in a career where there is not a single thing I’d rather be doing, there is a part of me which is envious of his set-up.

But such an arrangement exposes you to be less critical of inferior stuff. You're getting it for free and your role is to give positive and enthusiastic ad copy for your sponsors. Exposing you to accusations of being a mere hack.
