500 dollars of Meeee Yow

The Belgian loafer thing as house slippers I can get. Sure, wear them around with your smoking jacket at home. Hell, if you're hosting a party and want to wear them with a dinner jacket, who will complain?
But what fruitcake wears these things off of their own property are beyond insane. And possibly women.
Actually, can anyone explain how these things are any different than the ballet slippers that women wear nowadays? Besides being European-made and obscenely pricey?

As with anything, a little bit goes a long way.

actually, I got my first pair in 97. of course, it wasn't labelled as museum calf and it is not painted like the Lobbs. second pair is a thrift find, which I would estimate twenty to twenty-five years old. with both pairs I cannot be certain how the effect was achieved. I'd probably ask my leather consultant, though. also the grain between the two pairs is different. the bespoke number is a furniture leather according to the shoemaker. actually, I told him to give it a try as I liked the melange of brown and caramel colour.

How does that differ from shoe leather? Or for that matter bookbinding leather, which is what that Russian reindeer stuff dredged from the bottom of the ocean is.

I'm sure there are more things to consider. the shoemaker explained to me that this hide is/was thinner than regular shoe leather and he wasn't sure if it would withstand the lasting, which it did. actually, I handled the hide in flesh and I can confirm the thickness factor. needless to say that I'm glad that we went ahead and it worked.

understood, back in the days shoe leather was 3.5 - 4 mm. nowadays, its mostly in the 1.2 - 1.8 mm range.

the russian reindeer is said to be in the 1 mm range.

Further to this, there is an AM shoe which I think sums up the difference between the intelligent style-minded individual, the acquirer and the mimicker.

tbh, not a fan of the last shape, which throws it a bit out of proportion in my book. certainly, this is in the eye of the beholder and includes the aspect of personal preferences.

Now this is fascinating. The only mention I've ever heard of regarding leather thickness is for the protective gear for motorcycling. I'm going to be going around with a caliper to every bit of exposed shoe leather that I can measure.

Having gone through the two suggested threads a some things come to mind.

5. Putting it all together

I will use Stitch as a model here and this is written out of observation not out of what I might think of him.

He has no innate style. His fits never look effortless. At best he mimics well on occasion but more often then not he fails because there is a fundamental dissonance between cut, colour and the like. While he acquires brands well it is not necessarily to his advantage. He would benefit from MTO or even better bespoke because of his shape. He would also benefit from some third party advice as the guidance from iGents has led to improvements but not enough.

Stitchy would definitely benefit from mtm/bespoke. He has alluded to few in the works from Panta and I think he already has a couple. Stitchy's fits are all over the place. I don't think I really have a feel for what a "Stitch-fit" is. If you laid out Pingson's outfit, or Pliny's or gdl's or Sander/Braddock's, I could probably recognize them without the person in them (though Sander/Braddock I'd need to check the size as their style has very much the same feel). Not sure I could with Stitchy.

I think this is something Stitchy's aware of himself.

Awareness. Kind of. Consistency is not necessarily having a look that people can recognize. Consistency is well put together ensembles even if stylistically one is all over the map.

You could wear Ivy one day, Napoli the next and SR on the third yet still be consistently good or bad depending on how you put it all together.

Snitchy would benefit from a good kick up the arse and also having to work for a living.

I don't know what that chain is people put through their lapel buttonhole and string through to the pocket square. But I don't like it. It disagrees with me.

He no longer works?
The pudgy kid has had a few pretend jobs but even then hasn't been able to hold them down. Sick of supporting him and forking out money for his house, car and clothes the family said he should do some work for them. They hoped for more than pretend work but have had to lower their expectations. And put up with his dress ups.

Holy shit. I thought he had a for realz job, but never could reconcile it with his mad poastcount. I guess that makes sense.

Back when I was friends with him he worked at a jewelery store. Made pretty good business off of SF too IIRC.

Work is a relative term with variable meanings. I suppose odd job boy at your uncles bauble business could be called work.

Magnanni and they call that piece of leather a opanca.

Don't know why.

the particular brand was another, anyway. nothing really to remember in my book.

btw, I heard the term opanca in context with braided sandals just this week. the origin was from banater germans from former czechoslovakia.

You think an Orthodox Jew who dresses like that is going to be digging ditches? Plumbing maybe?
Oh no. I have no preference for labouring over head work or lifting over keyboard or warehouse over whore house. But being slipped into a cushiony family sinecure without competition, skill, competence, expectation or ability doesn't engender respect. But maybe I'm unfair. But after 3 million posts, easy money, a family gifted income the guy has as much real style as a suburban schmuck from outer bumfuck south in a thrifted fleece and pyjama pants with Nike shoes. He can't even leverage privelage.

I will reserve my snark and instead simply ask, what would you do if you came into possession of two odd jackets from your dear, dead friend?

http://www.styleforum.net/t/405208/kiton-and-cesare-attolini

Hi gays, few weeks ago i have received 2 jackets from my friend who is now not longer among us,so now the are mine, but i have nowhere to use them. I would like to sell them both. The jackets are Kiton Blanc Blue 180 size 50 grey and Cesare Attolini super 150 navy blue again size 50. they are almost new, worn few times. Tell me what can be their price. I can put here picture if some needed Thanks

I note the opening line:: "Hey gays"

Dead friends don't really care what you do with their almost new jackets.

I agree. My first thought was he didn't say they did not fit him but that he has no use for them. So he either has similar quality jackets or doesn't wear them.

I guess what bugs me is that he wants to make a buck off them but doesn't want to invest the time to research it on his own.

Frankly, if I inherited a dead guy's jacket of that quality I'd pass it on to someone I knew who would appreciate it rather than trying to flip it for a few bucks but I suppose I have to put myself in the OP's shoes. The shoes are probably the dead guy's too but they are EG or JL and he decided to keep them.

In college, a good friend/my roommate killed herself. I had to drive her car back from the impound (she had slit her wrists in it, and her parents understandably didn't want to drive it, and I thought it was kind of interesting in a morbid way) and found the pack of cigarettes she had purchased just before killing herself, full but for one. I kept it and brought it with me. Whenever a mutual friend (I didn't smoke cigarettes, but I was probably the only one of our circle of friends to not) was pining for one, but didn't have any on them, I'd offer. They'd at first refuse. And tell me I was a sick fuck. But then like ten minutes later they'd give in and ask for one.

I'd sell the clothes provided I already had another memento and needed the money. So college aged Chorn? Yes. Present Chorn? Probably not. As thruth suggested, I'd probably see that they find a good home.

------

On a different note, what the fuck have y'all been doing in the West in my absence. How is this now an acceptable frame for a model?

He probably killed the "friend" and tossed away the bloodstained clothes and was looking for a dodgy online place to sell brands names, spotted spoof pokers adverts and thought, here's a bunch of idiots .

Well he is Bulgarian. That changes everything. Every item has intrinsic value and a price.

Most likely he did off someone. Gang related I'd like to think. Killed his boss and now he can afford the Kiton and Attolini. Why not sell it to a bunch of brand whores.

His piano key smile glints with a twinkle of stainless steel as he relishes the thought.

Now, now Chorn Chorn , in the west we now embrace all races, creeds, religions, shapes, sizes, malformations, dogmas, cults, and want them to be represented in advertising. LGBTG. AC/DC, LDS, NRA, NAACP, AFLCIO,ABC, TBS, FSAMFIUBS, USMC, SETI, NASA, NBA, NMWA, ROTFLMAO

Not disagreeable, but certainly very silly. tchoy's and my entry was withdrawn as we misunderstood the premise of the contest.

Very silly, but aren't all the SF FC's? Personally, I'm quite the geek, so it's right up my alley.

I noticed the inane thread on FNB picked up on that thread as well, but the snark is luke warm so far.

More OnT, I really can't get behind cargo pants in any form of coat and tie context. Certainly not executed in this manner anyway:
