Dogs, Badass or Otherwise

Just an update on our new golden, a bitch puppy my wife named "Laika." Compared to her half-brother, she is much softer, much more biddable and a total sweetheart, in other words, a stereotypical Golden. I hope to have her certified as a Canine Good Citizen in the not-too-distant. I fear her brother is too reactive and aggressive to pass the test although three of my Tosas did so. That should tell you something.

out of curiosity Thruth Thruth , what's it run to feed those monsters every month?

what is a canine good citizen?

They are on a raw diet. Raw meat blends supplemented with to provide a full range of nutrients. Probably somewhere around $500 a month. Actually cheaper than buying high-end kibble which is all shit anyway despite what people and vets think.

The Canine Good Citizen certificate is something issued by the American Kennel Club to dogs that pass some rather simple basic obedience and socialization tests. I believe some hotels and motels that otherwise don't allow dogs will accept dogs with CGCs, and it may be otherwise useful in similar circumstances. It may also help in getting homeowner liability insurance, particularly if you do have a dog from one of the "badass" breeds.

Supplemented with what?

Interesting. Also good to know. Never heard of that before

Oliver, the Shih Tzu that we rescued in 2006 when he was 7 passed away today. He had been thrown out of a car and was living on the streets. Mean streets for a Shih Tsu. Rotten and infected teeth. Skinny.

We’ve been expecting him to die for years. But he kept on ticking. He was almost blind and deaf at the end but he still knew it was me at the top of the driveway when I’d roll in to visit Flat Broke Acres Okanagan and he would perk up and be happy. He just chilled by the pellet stove.

I’d taken to the habit of telling him to hang on until the next time I was back. I never got back.

He was peculiar in that he was demonstrably happy and proud of himself after a bath and grooming. He would always run to find me to show off.

He hated children. But we were cool with that. The wounds were always superficial and the grandkids got what they deserved messing with an old dog.

He would still play with the other dogs in the evening outing. They miss him. We are deveatated.

We have always had a big pack of dogs so end of life is always there. It just doesn’t Get easier as the deaths mount up.

This was him in the Spring

Sorry to hear of your loss. The idea of a dog that lives to be 20 or 21 seems almost incredible to me, since none of my five
Tosas made it to seven! I hope our retrievers can do better. Oliver was lucky to have you as such caring owners.

^That's amazing! I am not sure any dog other than a Malinois could have accomplished it. Mals are great dogs but too high-strung and too high-energy for the vast majority of dog owners.

yeah they look great in those police videos and doing shit like this but they've got to be a major pain in the ass to deal with on a daily basis.

My home mob are still slightly itching for a dog. The eldest wants a golden retriever, but I've told them it's either a British or French bulldog. I'm not having a big dog in the house.

Dogs are popular here in the Netherlands and where we live, it's ideal for dog walking around the woods, small lakes and nature reserves despite the proximity to the Hague. But then you have to start interfacing with all the dog owners on your excursions. I would rather not. When I'm walking through the forest, I'm doing it to get in with nature, not as a social activity.

You can tell that’s a troublemaker right there.

Poor big guy. Is he mostly a house dog now?
Yup, she was waiting to steal her big brother's ball. And she did.

Bennie spends most of his time inside. He goes out and still pokes around the property though. He can still motor when he wants to. He's got it good. Every year beyond 9 or 10 is a bonus.

The missus and eldest nearly got stung with one of those puppy scams...

So they decided to get golden retriever pup from a lady in London having to move back to the States. Going price over here is €1000-€2500 with waiting lists. This was €350. I warned them straight off, but they said no worries because we only pay on arrival. Of course this morning they get asked to pay money up front and get sent a link to a company in Cameroon and the number of the lady in London was a +237 number.

The missus sent a text saying she needed to speak to the lady first before payment and this was the response:

While they're at it, tell them to stay away from dogs offered in/from Belgium. Apart from Eastern Europe it's one of the major hubs for animals from dubious kennels that use sick/poor health animals not approved by the large breeding associations. I've been looking for a Golden myself and the prices for a pedigree dog start from ~2k€. If you'e not willing to pay that, stay away. Medical costs can quickly go into the thousands even for minor things.

Thanks for that, I've printed-off and underlined the appropriate content. Unfortunately, the missus and the eldest haven't done the research despite assuring me they had. Before I showed them that, they were looking to get one from Belgium and another from Romania.

It's all done at the level of ''My best friend's got a chihauahua and if I get a dog they can be best friend's too!'' and well, ''Anja got a cheap a dog and she hasn't had any expensive vet costs like you've just shown me...''

Sounds like you are pushing MSM lies on them - stuff that hasn’t been even remotely verified by trusted youtube experts. On the other hand, they seem to have more credible and fact-checked first hand sources than you do, mate.
