There are some new improvements with the ways that polls are handled as well:

New Poll Options.webp

There are a number of new options and controls when you create a new poll:
  1. Polls are no longer limited to one or multiple choices. The creator can now control exactly how many responses a user can select. If they select the maximum amount, the other options will automatically disable to indicate this.
  2. Voters can now change their votes, if the option is selected. This is useful to handle cases where people make mistakes, a response is missing, or if people just change their mind.
  3. Poll results can be limited to only be viewed by people that have voted. This can help to limit gaming of polls or "groupthink".
The options surrounding public votes and poll closing remain as is.

Editing a Poll

First, a poll can be added directly to an existing thread by the thread creator via the Thread Tools options (in the OP).

The thread creator can also edit an existing poll with some limits. If there are no votes in the poll, they have full access to edit everything about it or to simply remove it. However, if there are votes on the poll, some options remain editable and new responses can be added; the question and existing responses cannot be changed.

Finally, if you merge a thread with a poll into a "basic" thread (just a simple discussion), the poll will be maintained.
 
You can now PM someone right from the forum page you're reading rather than clicking on that person's user name. Under each user name is a box that says Contact:

Clicking that will popup an overlay box where you can type in your PM:

I;m not complaining, but why exactly is this forum on the cutting edge of awesome features when we are small, essentially non-profit, and run by exactly one person that actually has something resembling a life? I mean, thanks and all, but what's up with like every other forum that is so crummy in comparison?

You should ask this in SF's mod thread. We should get an answer just in time for Christmas.
 
How many of you guys are using the Bookmarks feature? And if you do use it, how useful do you find it?
 
The server switch happened today so you guys should be seeing much shorter load times and less wait. Let me know if you can see a difference.

Also, there will be coming a theme update for the flickering we're getting on mobile. Hopefully, the forum software update will be along Wednesday as well.
 
As you may have noticed, we have a nice new feature - Featured Threads. This gives us the ability to create a permanent, or rotating class of threads to highlight at the top of the forum. I'll be able to make a scrolling box of them, so they won't take up more vertical space than they are now. I can also make a home page featuring them as well, which I'll be working on in a day or two.

I was thinking this might be good to highlight any important threads, people who have things to sell, or even just threads that are popular. Maybe Mauro, EFV, or HenryC HenryC for their business.

Thoughts?

he was online at SF 2 minutes ago and has been regularly posting albeit at a slow pace

My thoughts on this are basically if you want to allow people to who run businesses to use this feature, or even have a thread of their own then they should be only allowed to do that if they put back in to the forum in some way already and with your permission. It saves you from getting businesses just to sign up to promote themselves and nothing more and adds to the conversation on the forum. Maybe they need to have 25 posts beforehand or something. What do you think?

But I'm in favour of it in anycase. There is no Henry Carter thread but I'm more than happy to start one you're ok with that.

From a clothes seller standpoint, admittedly, its a bit pointless at the moment, since there are no stores or businesses. Its more for the future that we will hopefully have. Just for the record, my permission is irrelevant. This forum is for you guys. Its not like I'm making a red cent off this. I'm not selling ad space here, or access. Just giving people a platform and a way to have the conversation without being inundated with advertisements and a steady stream of spam and horseshit.

If in the future we're overrun with businesses, then maybe people could chip in a bit to pay for a spot. But that's a LONG, LONG, LONG way off. What I want is contributors more than showmen. Its great for people to show off their shit, but if they just want to spam the forum with their own wares and that's it, then its sort of pointless. Might as well have Gianni sign up.
At this point, I figured I'd just use it to make a nice little way to show off certain threads, like the Passaggio thread, the SF Trainwreck thread, and the Agreeable/Disagreeable threads.

There is a post requirement to start threads as is. I could always override this if a known commodity shows up. I'd love for you to start a thread. I'm not that familiar with your stuff myself and I know other people are fans. But its ultimately your call since you'd have to maintain it. I'm happy to help out and feature it and do whatever I can to help/grow your business, as meager as our help here could be. Just feel free to ask.

Sorry if this is a bit of a stream-of-conciousness rant but its 5AM and I'm exhausted.
 
This new "New Posts" counter shows that we actually have a decent amount of new posts daily, but new threads are a relative rarity. It's easy to miss stuff at times, especially if away for a while. Is is possible to highlight a specific post in a thread?

I do like it as a gentle bit of moderator steering. Hey Disagreeable/Passaggio malcontents, there is other content, and we've highlighted a choice cut right here.

Why you click on a thread it should take you to the last unread post by default. Is it not doing that for you?
 
What in the actual fuck is going on with the forum format? it's almost unreadable.

Well, for one thing the main page is now just massive text and picture blocks, you have to go to a sub forum just to get the actual forum index, which is a massive pain on mobile. Secondly, not just the verticle size of the box, but the fact it's in the way of the index page. That needs to be a sidebar we can turn off.
 
Yeah, my complaint is that it's a big block at the top that needs to be scrolled past, so both horizontal size and the positioning of the thing.

Alright. The index page is a function of the addon. It lets us finally have a "home page" to work with. If you want to get past that quickly just change your bookmark to www.dressedwell.net/forum and it'll take you right to the forum page. On mobile, if you're on the home page, just hit the menu bars on the upper left and jump to the forum. I can add in the links like New Posts and Search Forums, but that just kind of clogs up the view. Changing your bookmark is quickest.

Yeah, I already changed my bookmark, the issue is when we hit the Dressed Well banner at the top to go back to the index quickly it goes to the home page.

I couldn't get the one on the index to dismiss.

Click the little black dropdown arrow next to the thread title on the top right. I'm going to shorten up the space for them as well. so it won't be so obtrusive.

Ah, I see. That's kind of a rock/hard place. Instead of hitting the banner, try hitting the Home -> Forums link. Or use the quick navigation.

I don't have the little drop down arrow?

The second point is just like putting the edit button in a drop down box, ineffcient, especially on mobile. I want to be able to click recklessly around the screen and have it go where I want!

Also, is this where we complain about how the forum is down while you fix all the things we complain about?

I'm pro-haphazard clicking. Admittedly, though, you just complained about screen real estate with the featured thread. Hiding the edit button helps to shrink the screen size. So its an inefficiency with a purpose.

Complaints about your complaining can go in the Zen Maintenance thread.
