Hi! Glad I found this place :)

I'm a 17yo guy from France learning about sartorialism and craftmanship. The subject first caught my attention through observation: when it was made clear to me that classic menswear could actually be more than a white shirt, navy satin tie & a navy suit (the politician's suit). I did some research on the internet, spiraled down the rabbit hole, read some books (Dressing The Man by Alan Fusser/Some of other stuff) and it only strengthened my will to invest some time & money into quality craftmanship.

Of course, I don't want to be overdressed! This would just make me look presumptuous and out of place. Thus, no suit for me yet (even if I love ties & pocket squares): I don't have the money nor use for it (maybe in three years). However, I would like to grow out of wearing hoodies everyday (even if they look super cool) and pay some attention to how I look. In short, I'm here to learn about good taste, formality levels, where I can find some quality pieces without ending up in financial debt and have some fun conversations about the fine things life has to offer.

Thanks for reading & welcoming me in this fine & fun community!

Welcome HarryHaller HarryHaller

There is a goodly number of good souls to answer your sartorial questions.

You will get more responses if you refer to current events, e.g., COVID collar gap in classic menswear and Gaza grunge (not Garza) in streetwear.

Hello Everyone,

New here. I've enjoyed the site for quite sometime but never registered. I live in SW Florida but spent most of my working years in northern NJ/NYC.

Ahoy to you all,

as the large German men's fashion forum I previously visited will be shut down in a fortnight, there is a lively discussion about alternatives. The tendency there at the moment is to use Discord, but I think Discord is pretty awful for having long-lasting and well-structured discussions. After looking at the possible alternatives - including the advertising-rich neighbouring forum - I have now ended up here. ‘Modern’ or not, web forums are the only sensible thing to do.

I'm still thinking about a good avatar picture, I just painted the current one myself. I'm not going to get actively involved for the time being, I need to get to know the forum culture here first. I like the fact that there is no advertising despite the financial constraints. Many thanks to the team!

Welcome aboard Stylus. Out of curiosity, which forum is closing down?

I like the fact that there is no advertising despite the financial constraints.
Thank you for saying that.

Welcome to the Funhouse!

Came across this while cleaning out my email. I haven't worn a suit in like 7 years. Anybody remember me? I'm embarrassed to look at my old posts.

Looks like I still a have a custom title. I suppose the monochromaticness was not destined to last forever. All good things must come to an end.

Stick around and tell us what you’ve been up to and whether you were shoes in the house.

Absolutely not. Especially not with all these fires and the ash.
Shit. I forgot you are in LA. Glad you didn’t get crispy. Did the fires get close to you?

Glad to see some things haven't changed!

About 4 miles from the fires. Ash came falling down like big snow flakes. It'll be bad until the first rain washes some of it away.

Hi I’m thinking of starting a menswear brand. loose linen shirts wide leg trousers all the good stuff but made in more interesting hand loomed fabrics from India. I have had shirts made in Indian cotton and linen for years and the quality exceeds most of the western fabrics I’ve stumbled into especially for a more casual vibe. For me this idea stems from my frustration at not being able to find wide leg trousers and properly cut old school style shirts of the peg. Everything is a little too snug for my tastes! The Italian look sends shivers down my spine …
And there are brands doing it like adret but the prices are just silly. A pair of trousers nearly fetch what you would pay for a bespoke suit! And the brand is remarkably overhyped for those who realise it’s just an off the peg garment… I get shirts made in India that look just as nice for less than a Starbucks coffee
My inspiration for this came from photos of my grandfather looking relaxed and very cool in wide leg high waisted trousers and a loose white shirt sleeves rolled up . Perhaps it was because everything was better made and cut well so men could throw stuff on and look well put together. My grandad always said trousers don’t have enough ball room. I tend to agree.
Any way any advice

Hi everyone,
I’ve been reading here for a while and finally decided to join. I’ve always been drawn to timeless, understated style — things made to last, with a focus on craftsmanship rather than trends. I work in the fashion space myself and have a deep appreciation for materials, especially natural fibers like cashmere and wool.

Looking forward to learning, exchanging ideas, and contributing to some of the discussions here.

Welcome Richard. What do you do in the fashion industry?
