Let's Talk About Denim

I guess I'm wondering if I should leave them with a 1" single turn-up cuff showing-off teh shelvedge linez or have them taken up the inch for a clean chain stitched hem. I'm leaning towards going cuff-less for a change.
Not a stacker?

Cuff, embrace the stack or have them taken up an inch?

Yeah I did. I'm mailing them back, they're gonna fix em and ship em back to me (and they cover both directions of shipping with either a paypal reimbursement or store credit).

Did you get them back, yet? How are they wearing? I'm thinking of getting in on these myself (3sixteens are still so new and soft I kinda hate wearing them around the house).

Big guys were WAY ahead of the curve on this one. If your shit is so tight that it either shows your ass crack, or splits when you squat down, you pretty much have to go back to the drawing board.

As I get older, I'm more and more convinced that heavily tapered jeans just look dumb. No matter what Esquire or GQ says.

That's why I think my next denim purchase is going to be either the 3Sixteen SL100x or the Rogue Territory Stanton. Slim straight all the way.

Also, all those $300+ brands can go suck it.

I still love Momotaro, it's just so impractical to have multiple pairs of the same thing.

Try out the gustins. Might as well while the referral bonus works. Who knows how long they'll keep it up for.

Took to SF tonight to review the Rogue Territory Stanton vs. the 3Sixteen SL-100x. So much groupthink everywhere:

I just got denimX but can't button up the top two buttons? Will it stretch?

I just got denimY but can button all the buttons. Should i size down?

Sheesh people. I just want my dang thighs to fit into anything.

What is apparently so hard about making a slim pair of denim (perhaps even with taper) with a more generous thigh/seat for those of us not built like sticks?

Beware of the latest run of 3Sixteens - sizing is supposed to be a little slimmer up top than previously. You may have to size-up one, but I wonder how that would affect overall proportions.

My Dream Jeans (the WvG thread got me thinking about this) would be close to the SL-100, with a few peculiar additions for those of us who occasionally carry a holstered firearm yet do not dress like the typical NRA member with the beard, the gut, the trucker hat and the IQ deficit:

Heavily reinforced denim on the inside hips at high-wear areas (maybe also rear pockets and extra-strong/thick pocket bags, while we're at it.

A non-fading dark denim option (those hawt jawnz fadez may look cool with the kidz, but not when the fade starts to print the back-up semi-auto in a front pocket holster.

Crazy high waist-band: you're never going to wear them with a shirt tucked anyway, so nobody will know they have a grandad rise. The higher the rise, the higher your belt and the higher your belt, the higher the holster is under your shirt. Doing the little Playboy Bunny knee-bending dips gets old pretty quickly.

Mauro this should definitely be RIGHT up your alley. You should make a special edition for the carrying crowd. Maybe make them the same as a regular edition but with an upcharge for some reinforcement. That way, you wouldn't have to put in special patterns or orders, but just send in a few pairs with the additional specs.

I've noticed a few people on SF who said they were going to order APC NS etc. TTS so it fit their thighs, I never heard back from them though.

I was thinking about doing something similar a while ago, I always wear a belt and a shirt tucked in, so would amount of stretch if any even matter?

You mean stretch in the seat? If so, then yes, it would matter. Especially if you want your ass to look good in them. Excess material in the seat = saggy bottom ass with overall tight fit. Definitely looks weird.

I just jumped on the Gustin Super Heavy bandwagon. Rambo, you should get a $20 referral credit. I scored a $20 credit towards my next purchase - didn't work for first purchase.

Yup, used the referral. Cheers!

Update: just checked my credit card and they did take the $20 off the first purchase!

Once they're blown, they're blown IMO. Plus, isn't that the perfect opportunity to break in a new pair?

My mum would darn my worn jeans when I was in kindie and primary school. It kinda marked you as poor, but you'd get another 6 months out of them. I wouldn't do it for knee or crotch blow-outs, but maybe back pocket or thigh would be ok. Actually, I agree with Rambo. Time for some nice fresh crisp new denim!

Some of the darning I've seen come out of SE, BO, and DenimDoctors is quite good. That article made me rethink their services.

Especially for crotch blowouts; they cut terribly short the life of a good jean.

The other option of course is to not buy them so freaking tight in the first place.

Gustin has the Japan Classic back in stock. They said they're going to be keeping this one around full time, so I assume the $89 price is the new normal.

Save some money using the referral (If anyone else gets a referral, make sure to post it up here)

The classic looks like a good fit. 12.25 thigh on a tagged 34 is a bit small, but that's also 2 inches down from where I normally measure it.

What is a good source for quality white denim pants?
I would hesitate to call them quality, but for an easy and not too bad option, Levi's makes a 501, 511, and 513 in white. I have the 501's and they're perfect for what I need - something that I'll probably never wear but would fill the gap if required.
