Let's Talk About Denim

Can a tailor narrow the hem w/o damaging the selvedge? Not narrow the lower leg, but just pinch the hem in a bit.

A local tailor who is really skilled told me he can narrow the hem from the inseam, but he said it's extremely labor intensive. I would use him, but he charges ridiculous amount of money because he knows people know he does good work. Wish I lived in NYC where the prices are competitive.

How bad are these new jeans? And if they're so bad, why keep them?

Jean Shop classic fit. Just kopped. I actually like the fit on these, low rise, top block fits. It has just been awhile since I wore straight leg jeans.

I think the tapered silhouette has burned itself on many people's image of "good fit" while not necessarily being so. Please do post pics first - it's likely not a big deal. 8 3/8 is hardly flare.

Worn over some Buttero work boots

What are some good brands for women's denim? Mrs Bear is in the market for new jeans and looking at 7fam, true religion, etc.

Ugh. Hell, even having her start with some better Levis would be a good choice. Nudie makes popular womens jeans as well.

You know what's weird? I just was rooting around at all the denim Meccas and not one of them has a women's section.

Was not aware that Joes and JBrand were "acceptable" - have not seen a woman yet who's butt didn't look fantastic in either brand.

Mauro - agreed completely with the sentiment. I'm not necessarily saying they should have women's sections. I just thought it odd that not one of them did.

CoH is popular with girls I know.

Acne is not well know around my part of the town, but my SO owns a few pairs and she loves them. Extremely well shaped. Not worth at retail, but on sale very good deals IMO

What the H-E- Double hockey sticks are you talking about?
Well you're not exactly a bodybuilder Mauro. So you would be more likely to build in support for concealed carry rather than accommodating super sized quads.

Gustin's finally hit a tipping point. They've been offering this grey denim with silk in it, and its been VERY popular. The first offering sold out in minutes. That was $90. The next time they offered, a few months later, it was $99 and again, sold out in minutes. Today, they brought it back again, and again it sold out in minutes. They even announced the time it would go on sale so people would be ready. The price? $127

Finally got the chance to get a pair of jeans that fit nice. Legs are still a bit tight but are wearable.

Any recommendation of the experts to treat this denim or nothing in particular?

Nothing special. Just wear them normal.

Just out of curiosity, why didn't you go with the 501's? Even the regular 501's, not the shrink to fits?

In terms of washing, should I wash them normally?

The 501's doesn't fit my thighs. If I win the trip to Vegas from my work I definitely will try some 501's shrink to fit.

You and the painted on jeans. You gotta size up one Betel. Your fucking legs aren't that big.

Wash them in cold and hang dry. ESPECIALLY if you don't want any shrinkage. Even though they're sanforized, they can still shrink some under high heat.

The longer you want the color to last the less you should wash them.

I know but when I suze up the jean sooner or later fall off! Haha.

Hahaha don't get mad, Ramboeazy, I still don't know why you feel the 559's are bad. :(
I'm just busting your balls. Truth is, outside of the shrink-to-fits, or the specialty denims, all of the Levi's are basically the same outside of fit. If you think they make your package look bigger, then by all means, go with it.

At least they are better than the Hugo Boss I pictured once, right?
