Pitti Uomo 89

I feel that this round wasn't as flamboyant as the previous years. Maybe I haven't looked at enough pictures.

Ethan Newton, formerly of The Armoury and Ralph Lauren, now of the soon-to-open "Brycelands & Co" in Tokyo, along with someone who is a punk rock singer for a Norwegian "deathpunk" band and who is dressed in rather un-punk-like tweeds.

The guy on the left looks like Ethan should look like. He looks terrible and very unhealthy. He has always been husky but I've never seen him so big in a long time and I've known him back when he worked for Herringbone before he was menswear famous.

I was thinking the same thing, too, but I also think that the cut of Ethan's jacket and jeans are not doing him any favours at all.

I am increasingly avoiding DW, and this exemplifies why. The anal-retentive rule following and boring, conservative mentalities rip all the joy out of dressing. The amount of times I have heard men in gray suits and black shoes tell me what I should be wearing and why leaves me depressed. Many of the people involved in this industry truly enjoy what they do, they love dressing and there is a definite creative buzz when working with others in the industry. The 'clothing enthusiasts' come along and tell us how we should be wearing our clothing, never bothering to consider that we are not them, we are not trying to express what they express. It is like classical musicians telling a jazz musician that their music is wrong, their expression wrong, because they don't follow the rules that others confine themselves to.
Lighten the fuck up. Does it really bother you that my tie isn't straight? Do you really think you know how comfortable I would be in heavy cotton, speaking from a different country? Do you think you know our inspirations for dressing, when we live completely different lives, with vastly different career paths, social circles and even different cultures?

This is why you will always be one step ahead of the suckers.

Clearly I am not a regular poster, but in the interest of you all having further fuel to rip my style apart;

Clip on braces - they are comfortable and feel a little more at home with a jacket and trousers than buttoned ones. If I didn't need my trousers to stay up I'd forgo the things altogether.

Size - Yes, I am fat. You can all worship skinny men in skinny suits until the cows come home, but it won't make me any skinnier. I am a little above 100kgs, a little under 6 foot tall, about a 46 chest and 38 waist. If I could be rail thin and wear clothes in a more flattering way, I would, but there is little that flatters me. I photograph badly, I make good clothes look bad while my slim colleagues can make bad clothes look good.
Alan is skinny. Jake is skinny. Mark is skinny. I am fat. Get the fuck over it.

Signet Ring - I had this made when my grandfather passed some 6 years ago. It is his family crest, with their family motto inside. For the Australians on here, I grew up in Cabramatta, so I lay no claim to being aristrocratic, but I love my family and am not ashamed of my name. My wife wears a Kamon on her formal kimono, I have a ring. Only on SF can we get berated for something so intimate and personal as that.

Tweed - I love tweed. I love rich, sturdy cloth, and I am not a banker. I am not a lawyer. I do not have board meetings. I do not sit behind a desk anywhere, I do not meet with stiff lipped upper crust people and try to be unassuming. I have no dress requirement other than to enjoy my clothes and try to help my customers. I enjoy wearing tweed, flannel and cord, particularly in the cold.

Beard - My wife likes my beard. She means more to me than any of you.

Tan - I have the best tan my Irish blood allows.

Posh Biker - I am neither posh nor a biker.

Fuddy Duddy - I am a bit fuddy duddy. Anyone who wants to call me out on it in person is more than welcome.

Again, I don't post often. Maybe if I lose 20 kilos, cure my baldness, get a fake tan and dress for your job and not mine, I will be accepted on here. Until then, I'll leave this forum to my betters.

ololo and the extra irony as the quote was in reply to Journeyman Journeyman IIRC!

I think it was that spastic comic drawer
I really hate that guy

No, P-nez is right - it was in response to a post of mine where I pointed out that Ethan was wearing his tie in a knot where the tail was twisted over the front blade, and I said that "it's not sprezzatura if it's deliberate!".

Ethan then had a dummy-spit, as LKP pasted above. Comic-book guy then chimed in to say that he didn't think that Ethan looked very good in the photo.
