Political Organizations Thread

Trying to keep this to value-neutral analysis of the actions and organizations of the two political parties in America.

And we'll begin with Florida, where the Florida Democratic Party is insanely inept. In a diverse state where Democrats outnumber Republicans, the entire cabinet is Republican, as is the governor, and the majority of both chambers of state legislature. Last election, the FDP ran as their candidate for CFO a guy who had declared bankruptcy a few times. When he was exposed and dropped out, they nominated someone who had a bunch of tax liens. Rolling the dice again (who needs vetting!) the party essentially gave up and some random guy took the nomination. The current frontrunner for the democratic nomination for the 2018 governor's race is Andrew Gillum, who is 37, has worked in municipal politics all his life, has a ton of corruption issues, and is the mayor of the most violent city in Florida (Tallahassee). A city that will be bankrupt in less than ten years by most estimates. He announced his candidacy via his city email account (which is illegal, as you imagine).

So anyway, who to come in and save the party? To shape it up and win the state back? Sally Boynton Brown, of Boise, Idaho.

Wow. Idaho, huh? She must have done a fantastic job up there to get a gig in Florida, right?

No, not really. Idaho has a Republican governor, two Republican senators, an all-Republican Congressional delegation and an all-Republican Cabinet.

But, to her credit, she might win back voters, as she feels her job is to "tell white people when to shut their mouths."

With this charmer taking over, I'm optimistic Florida will be turned purple again, maybe even blue, in no time at all.

Democrats need to fill out the lower levels of their machine right now. They are totally top heavy and the bench is totally empty. The Republicans have a built in advantage on the grass roots level as old white people are way more enthusiastic, but the gap is obscene now.

I saw some puff piece where they want Theo Epstein to run. I mean, if he did, it would be the first Dem I ever voted for Pres because that motherfucker got the Sox a series, but come the fuck on, these people are out in left field, no double pun intended.

looking at some of the national Dem leaders, they seem set to repeat last year epic snatching of defeat from the jaws of victory.

The party's a mess. The national Dem leaders are ridiculous. They put the wrong people on the sidelines. The charismatic leaders they have - Cory Booker and Joe Biden are usually relegated to footnotes. Meanwhile geriatric harpies like H. Clinton, Sanders, Perez, Warren get all the camera time. Chelsea Clinton's young, but she comes off as the Gwyneth Paltrow of DC. Oblivious and entitled. She's not going to appeal to anyone but hardcore Clintonistas.

Meanwhile, Bill Clinton, still likable and remembered by most moderates and Dems as president during the greatest period of economic prosperity in their lifetimes, just sits on the sidelines, ignored.

It's hard to win when your policies all revolve around identity politics and providing sanctuary for illegals.

The ideal Dem candidate for maximum vote getting in 2020:

Male
White
Aged 45-55
Scandal free (aside from a spliff in college)
Safely hip taste in music, arts, etc
Veteran
Neutral or slightly pro second amendment
Anti corporate talking points
Strong on women's and social issues
Vaguely left leaning policies generalities borrowed from Bernie
State-level political experience without any family polical background
More talk of unity (or even class) and downplaying identity politics - without pissing off minorities

I can't remember who said it, but it was on Howard Stern. The guy nailed it: Democrats are a pussy party. They are weak leaders that cave to every special interest that either has a sad story or a few dollars.

None of those names above evoke anything but cringe, especially Booker. We don't need Obama lite.

Wesley Clark.

Obama won two terms and remains popular.

i never thought anyone could be more annoying than Debbie Wasserman Schultz but then i saw Tom Perez. they really scraped from the bottom of the barrel there.

Big numbers of people who voted for Obama, twice, voted for Trump . . . and the main reason was economic.

"One finding from the polling stands out: A shockingly large percentage of these Obama-Trump voters said Democrats’ economic policies will favor the wealthy — twice the percentage that said the same about Trump."

Absolutely. Huge shift in who is the People's party of America.

Andrew Gillum, democratic candidate for Florida governor, had a $1.2 million haul for his race, including $100k this past month. Which democrats are publicly crowing about.

The rest of the story is that several Republican operatives I know are funneling money into his candidacy, because they feel he's much more beatable than the other Dem candidates. Grand Potentate Grand Potentate

And for the chaser - the Feds just subpoenaed the city for financial dealings involving this guy's cronies. Nice vetting, Florida Democrats! It's not like nobody knew about this stuff.
