Yeah, but does he have a tumblr or blog? All real tailors do. That's how you know they're good.
 
Oy. I haven't been there in over a year. He just had a facebook page that I couldn't find started then. Some other customer explained that there is a non-geriatric tending to web presence. I'd assume the man at the right?

Despite cranking out a good amount of stuff, he's a decently kept secret with no shills. I've run across a few fellow customers on forums, usually via PM. On DW, that would be stridentlyopposed .

+ One on Manny. My one and only bespoke jacket was made by him and he does all of my alterations. But I live close enough by to walk/bike to his shop.

Perhaps they are now trending as suit supply is doing one. In the igent approved hudson cut no less. I think they get no love because they are usually fairly frumpy in cut and styling. They compliment denim as well as anything you can wear and are warm as shit.

I also dislike the way camelhair hangs as a jacket.

But again, it makes for a great overcoat. If I had to just have one overcoat, it'd be camelhair.

I do not know how David Reeves is perceived here but here is what he did for one of his customers.
- He screwed up on 3 MTM suits/tux
- The customer posted pix of them online
- He fully refunded for 1 or 2 of the suits and paid a tailor to fix his mistakes

Damn. Say what you want but that kind of customer service trumps someone else's.

The difference being that in Reeves' case he screwed up and in the case that you allude to, you screwed up...
Anyway, enough whining already!
 
Alright, that's it. We're going to start deleting all of Noodles posts that include whining, references to SF, or his old thread from now on. This shit has gone on long enough.

I was wearing my camelhair, which I love (clearly). I only dislike (as in, I've not seen it worn in such a way I like) camelhair for a blazer/odd jacket.

That is an interesting point. I wonder how it will drape with the minimal padding, etc makeup of suit supply. I'll try one on when I am near the midtown store in the next couple of weeks and report back.

I don't work in a profession where I am required to wear jackets ever, and very rarely even shirts, ties, and slacks. So I suppose you can say this is more for pleasure than business. This is also why I side more towards casual wear, and why my photos in the OP are with chinos/jeans. When it does come to formal wear, I try to dress "correctly" because I have little experience in the area, and don't feel comfortable breaking those rules. When I'm in the gray area where CM Casual lies, I think it's more about personal expression.

As far as climate goes, I will be in the New England area for at least the next four years, but I just moved here. I'm originally from the sweltering South Florida climate, where shorts are perfectly acceptable for black tie.

There is no "rush" attitude; just different perspective. I was looking at First 5 jackets from a color standpoint, whereas you are looking at the more nuanced aspect of fabric texture and weight, which I agree is important. Since I don't need these items for work, I just want pieces that I can wear out to a nice dinner or even push onto semi-formal event.

First thing I gotta get out the way, is make sure you use "formal" to mean at least black tie, or an avalanche of internet pedantry will be sliding your way. Not sure if you were using it that way here, but I think you were.

Since it looks like you are looking for classic casual items, the world's your oyster. Style like any other medium is a case of you gotta know the rules to break the rules, so a solid understanding is the start, but far from the finish. All the items suggested here are solid, no question. Far be it from me to dissuade you from any of them, but with a casual bent, try something that seems nice in your minds eye, whether it's something safe or not. What is the worst that can happen, it doesn't work? If you don't have a dud every now and then then you aren't really finding your own style, just regurgitating truisms.

In a business setting, it's a different ballgame. You need to really know what you are doing, and will still be pretty constrained, but the fact you are going for casual wear gives you all the rope you want to experiment and find your own voice. Most people are limited to just the off hours wear to do this, which given the need to buy their business wear naturally means you have more scope to experiment.

I realize I 'd didn't list five of anything, but hopefully some helpful food for thought.

I've eaten dog on a number of occasions, though only once in Korea. Young Koreans are too soft these days to eat dog.

Yeah, I've eaten it too a few times. In the north of Vietnam and neighbouring provinces of China it's quite common. Don't care much for it though, that smell is still there after cooking.
