If you read my posts, you can see that I'm also quite critical with him. But through his videos I have known some interenting tailors and shoemaker. You don't have to share his tastes to find his videos interesting.

It used to be that his "collaborators" were all members of what was once called the "guide PG". But they were not all there, since you have to pay a monthly membership fee to feature there. Some just decided to do the odd collaboration with him. Cifonelli on the opposite went all in, he was pretty much their official bottom/spoke person went they decided to launch a new ready to wear line (made by Caruso).

However what shoe reviews are you referring to? He used to do a comprehensive shoe post once a year but he stopped after a while. Overall he doesn't know shit about shoes. He can't tell the difference between GW and handwelted and mostly says what brands tell him to say. He is shilling a lot for Corthay's ready to wear line, which are honestly pretty awful and not anywhere near what the reputation of the brand is for its bespoke line.

Hugo and Sonya's channel is a celebration of the bespoke lifestyle, and he gives an excellent guide for beginners to start on that journey. Their gift is the way they talk about things, no-one else does that in the way they do. He fills a big gap in the online youtube clothing community.

I used to be frustrated with his shoe videos, but his target market is for people on the journey who want simple information.

Hugo has become a Christian, so if he is a scallywag and gets up to mischief now is the time to make everything right and stop past wrong doings. I am not going to throw him under the bus. Why? Part of the French sartorial scene knows he is a fraud and a shill, he also lacks technical knowledge in many of the field he claims to be an expert in.
For those who might not know it, he was a producer/advertiser. Aaaaand all of his companies magically went bankrupt. That was before he started his new commercial endeavor, Parisian Shillman. He actually filed for personal bankruptcy and is still technically considered bankrupt.... It was all a bit too obvious and for a while he was what is called in French law "interdit de gestion" (loosely translated, it means he can't legally run a company anymore). It's a measure that is taken against company owners who have done a bit of embezzlement (among other things).
I wish I could be as banckrupt as he is, he renovated a historical house fairly recently and his kitchen range is worth more than 10K€. Among certain circles he has earned the nickname of "Jewcomet". Which I think is rather funny.

As for Jewcomet, his current house is next to a street called "rue des juifs". ("Jew's street"). And a lot of tailors (at least in France) were jews (Arnys being the most famous one) and known to shortchange people a bit (that part is just a reputation thing, I am not saying it's true). I don't really know exactly where the nickname comes from, but I think those two things might have something t do with it.
