I can't get into Craig as Bond. SPECTRE was like KAOS, right?

I actually like Craig as Bond but I also think it is a combination of him and the more realistic portrayal of the violence, wounding and death. Plus his edgier mental issues also adds to it

Totally. I have always thought that Craig was a solid number 2 Bond behind Connery, but he has edged closer to being my favorite lately. A lot of that is the movies themselves, which are much darker and grittier.

The Casino Royale torture scene among others brought a whole new sense of the character to life and Craig's delivery raised him up in my appreciation of what he brings to the role

I think it's neck and neck. Casino Royale, Skyfall, Thunderball and From Russia with Love all vie for numero uno to me.

Craig is handicapped by how ridiculously awful Quantum of Solace was, though it's not really his fault. It was pretty much the modern day Moonraker, which was a blight on old Rog.

This movie could put him over the top for me.

I think he's definitely the best actor next to Dalton. Dalton got incredibly shitty movies though.

To me, as a book fan, Craig is far and away the closest to the literary Bond, and his movies have a tone that is closest to the books.

Very true. It would be interesting - though impossible - to see what Connery could have done if he were in his prime today given what the franchise has become. It would be interesting to see what he could do with the inner psycho of Bond
 
Hopefully the days of perfect memory recall, superstar perfect athlete, race car driver, pilot, and sex machine movie character are numbered, but that said, in this particular franchise he's done better as an actor than any other bond.

They are all pretty ridiculous movies, so it's hard to point to that with Dalton.

It's pretty hard to call the bullshit of the Moore era "real" when the Craig ones are clearly a lot closer to the book, which is as real as it gets as far as what Bond is. Now I enjoyed the movies, but they were patently absurd in most cases. The first couple Connery ones weren't ridiculous in my opinion, Dr No and FRWL especially were pretty straightforward.

And he's had a woman boss long before a millennial knew what was happening. That has also be rectified with Fiennes, which is pretty awesome.
 
Okay, I mean "real 007 movies" not "real 007" movies. I want my Bond to be light-hearted and flippant. I want Roger Moore letting fish out of his submarine Lotus after he drives up on the beach. My interest in spy reality is zero. I want fictional fantasy!
Is Cleese any good as Q? The Desmond Llewelyn scenes were always gold.
Don't get me started on when Bond was doing BMW product placement.

Really doesn't change the calculus. The first Bond movies weren't light hearted.

Cleese sucked btw. And I'm a huge fan of his in general.

I remember that it was supposed to mean "Death to Spies" in Russian, although I'm not sure if that is actually the case. From memory, Smert Shpionam was a contraction of something longer.

Interestingly, SMERSH was actually a real organisation, formed as an umbrella counter-intelligence agency in Russia during WWII.

SMERSH was actually an acronym too, can't remember exactly what for, but I'm sure it can be Googled. Then it was a backronym to Smert Sphionam.

Very good movie and I really enjoyed it, but I was a bit irritated by the sheer amount of "willing suspension of disbelief" required in the chase that took place in London before the final showdown in Scotland - there was a whole lot of coincidences that had to happen and if one of those things had happened just a little bit later, or if it had not happened at all, then the entirety of the villain's plan would have fallen apart.

Let's face it - if you're going to be an evil mastermind, your plan should not hinge on a series of events happening that are seemingly planned down to the minute, particularly when those plans hinge entirely upon people acting in a particular way, simply because people are inherently unpredictable.

Wasn't this the one that was supposed to go into production but Sony ran out of money and had to wait for more in film advertisement partners to sign on?

No that was two movies ago .

I think there is a draft script out there, but not with the right ending. I'm not really bothered by leaks in general, it's like reading the book before the movie is made.
 
Oh okay. So now that the Russians are antagonists once more, Her Majesty's finest can fight them again?
