marling and evans is carried by most huddersfield outlets like huddersfieldcloth. reasonably priced. not bad. but just like moon i somehow associate them with a glue operation instead of a bench tailor. just my 2c. ymmv. nvm
YOUR 2c?
Just shared that with the Duchess, spat her G & T out!

you sir are a jealous arrogant idiot. Marling & Evans as much as you may want it, falls into the mid-range, but high quality. A canny buy. And I know diplomats who sport Marling & Evans before other ranges. It says you cannot be bought.

So away with your pretence and BS.

PRO TIP come to SD and say things like "the Duchess spat out her G & T" around me and the people I know; on my mothers life I could make one phone call and send you back to puberty with your balls cut off and stuffed in your face, later to be found in a ditch on the outskirts of Tijuana by Polica Federal. No joke, have respect for everybody and yourself or deal with the consequences of your liberal actions. That is grown man talk so handle your business accordingly.

YMMV

Complimenti! Timeless combo! I like!

I bought this gorgeous Caccioppoli fabric for a winter sportcoat.Fucking expensive but beautiful.

Mmmm, you'll need more than a blue overcheck to liven that up...Dull.

Grey, tricky for a sports coat, only really works with Harris or Herringbone..And I'm not keen on them.

Herringbone is nice for an overcoat mind..

A "friend" has found an end of bolt of Carlo Barbera medium grey flannel. I guess weight is 300 g/m.

Around 50€/m, quite a bargain imo.

pm for info. (if this is not permitted here, please, tell me)

Can someone identify this exact cloth? It looks like moss green twill with dark brown pow check and rust overcheck...

Got anybody some experience with Loro Piana "Windmate" lining? It seems to be some kind of combination of knitted cashmere and a polyurethane membrane and my tailor offered it to me for a heavy winter coat…

If you guys have some lengths of cloth you want to get rid of for not much, I'm all ears. I am drafting a waistcoat pattern for myself and want to try it on not overly expensive fabrics. A meter and half should suffice for a full waistcoat, even less if the back is made of lining.

please document. i just gave away the unsold lengths i listed on sf hoping some of the sicilian reserve victims would bite

Well I wanted to try my hand at making trousers but still don't have a sewing machine, so in the meantime I will try with waistcoats which at least have shorter seams for me to hand sew. I'm already proficient at hand sewing and can do my own buttonholes etc. but no lapels nor fancy stuff for now, which require interfacings, pad stitching and moar skill. First of course will be a muslin to check for fit and then I'd like to use better cloth, but don't have much to spend. Large guy so would need at least a meter and half for each waistcoat (talking about patterned cloth).

I don't care much about the type of cloth but since it's going to be odd waistcoats, better if the fabric is suited for that (no suity worsteds, pinstripes etc.)

1.5 m seems an awful lot a WC!

I am in the opposite position. I bought a sewing machine, and all the sewing accessories but i am still learning to crow's foot stitch a button.

I need to make the time

For self backed at least 1.5m yes. Depends on the width of the fabric, plus I'm rather wide myself. I made a test vest with 1m of fabric, but it was 150cm wide. There was some cloth left which would have been used for the facings. If using lining for the back, less length is required, but hand sewing pieces of lining is tricky.

Good luck! :)

I bought this 9€/m blue wool flannel for my first waiscoat.

Also got some viscose lining, canvas and bridle tape.

We'll see how it turns out... will take a while. Muslin test garment was OK. Still need to transfer the pattern to light cardboard to make some templates to transfer onto the cloth. Transferring patterns is sure the most tedious part.

seems workable enough

Very jungian buttonhole.

is that good or bad? :thinkingtroll:
actually took too much bite, but the cloth doesn't seem to fray much so no need to make them so chunky when I get there...
also need to find some gimp, used four cord on the test... sooo hard to find agreman or similar around. guess I will have to get it online. maybe Scherensammler knows a good source?

I'm thinking to buy a top Fox superheavy flannel in charcoal in 530/560 gr. for a boring office suit. I've never worn such a heavy fabric. Any experience?

I’m wearing that fabric now for pants. It’s lovely. Definitely not too dark, nice molting. Honestly I wouldn’t mess with fox much lighter than that. It’s soft flannel but at that weight holds a great crease, after 4 or so wears no neeed to even think about ironing.

Their mid grey at that weight is always out of stock. And for good reason I imagine. I ordered it once when it appeared available on their web shop, but received a mail it was out. They proposed a grey one shade lighter than their regular mid grey (definitely not a very light grey) at the same weight and it is also the sex. Also made up very nicely for pants. You can inquire with them for that cloth by asking if they have a close substitute for the out of stock midgrey at that weight.

Edit : I see the mid grey appears to be back in stock

The online shop Tessin has different shades of flannel from Lanificio Zignone at 540g/m.

Do you think those would be comparable to the ones of Fox? The price is 50€/m, quite reasonable.
