WDYBT: What Did You Buy Today

Lumberjack thermal long johns (no pic) and a cravat

I wore cravats briefly in the 60s. A look I might return to if I were brave enough.
It was a cheap eBay purchase to test the waters - I’m not really sure if I’ll be comfortable wearing it. But I’m thinking a little colour peaking out from a collared shirt under a round neck sweater might not be too cosplay/ott.

We used to wear them with blue OCBDs. 'We' being English mods

Tread carefully my friend. Tread very carefully.
One day there’ll be a subtle hint of color peeking out from the neck of a shirt a la Pierce Brosnan in Goldeneye and Cary Grant in To Catch A Thief, but in no time at all you could be going full Urban Comp posting for Instagram pics on your front doorstep wearing paisley silk pajamas and a brocade dressing gown like you’re Noel Fucking Coward. It’s a very slippery slope.

Three glasses of wine and I ordered a mtm dress shirt with cocktail cuffs and a casual poplin shirt with MoP buttons.

Easter sale and a chance to get an order in before the tariffs hit Olderbest.

I got three pairs of army-style chinos (Bronson and Red Tornado) in khaki, olive and a herringbone ecru. These seem really good - heavy but soft fabric and no obvious construction flaws. These are based on military patterns of the 40s, so high rise, wide leg and opening. I like Chinese pants for doing realistic inseems - mostly around 31” for a 32” waist. No need to hem.

I also got a couple of off-white t-shirts. The Bronson one is supposed to be based off the US Navy’s of the 40s, but looks like a classic 50s Brando cut. Exactly what I was looking for and a decent fit and fabric.

I’ll wait to see how they fair after a few washes, but really impressed with what I got for the price.

I’m kicking myself for not exploring some of these Chinese brands earlier. Quality and value are surprisingly good and a lot of the pieces work for me. Some beer too far into vintage workwear cosplay, but there are some great basics as well. In most cases they are copying a high-end Japanese product, but those are copies of vintage American goods (Levi’s jeans, military trousers, vintage t-shirts, etc)

A couple of vintage Lee jackets. A 220 from the late 70s and Japanese (Edwin) 1990s repro of the original (60s) Westerner:

OK but it’s a question of proportion regardless of what they did decades ago.
These are making you look like your body is a small faction of the length of your hips + legs when ideally they should look more equal.

Which would be ironic, since I have a big torso and stumpy legs (6’0” with a 30” inseam) !

I know what you mean, but I think it’s more about those trousers than the jackets

I think the trousers are up about an inch high in the first pics and perhaps they are a bit too wide with such a slim jacket - throwing off the balance.

The pic from the is morning (even if you don’t like double denim) is better because the belt lines up with the jacket better and the legs aren’t quite as full.

Dropbear Dropbear : Eyegallery is having its semi annual sale if you are still looking for opticals. I picked up 2 pairs of Face a Face titanium framesnfor 200 a pop. Subtle with just the right amount of modern.
