I like this summer look a lot.

I don't understand how we are supposed to wear jackets, ties, socks in our increasingly casual society when it's literally 100 degrees Fahrenheit out. I wear cropped chinos and loose popovers or t-shirts with Birkenstocks increasingly for this weather. Linen whenever possible.

Regarding the "Target" comment, the same can be said about Brioni suits vs. Men's Wearhouse: those who can't see the difference won't care to.

Ah but this is some bullshit false equivalency though innit?
There's some argument to be made that a well fitting cheap suit can possibly look better than a poorly fitting Brioni or whatever - especially to those who aren't knowledgeable about the details of manufacturing, but you can't make much of an argument about cut, cloth quality, manufacturing, tailoring precision, shaping etc on a cotton t shirt which has two side seams and a neck hole.

Maybe not the cut and quality of manufacture on a t-shirt. But there is differences in the quality of the cotton, and there is a difference between a loop-wheeled t-shirt and one that is not. Not that Rick is loop-wheeled. The Japanese are the ones to do that plus a couple of places in the US and Canada.

I concede this minor rebuttal but the main point still stands!

Actually you can. Particularly if the tee is made out of silk and double layer with one seam.

I would say dressing well in an increasingly slovenly and homogenized world is good tactic to rise above the herd. The answer to summer is summer weight cloths, crepe soles and a pair of shades.

Sometimes I dream of red brick soles on woven two tone saddle shoes. Don't know if such a thing exists.

I call BS on this. I'd like to see anybody in 35+ °C at 50+% humidity, even a linen shirt won't save you. Certainly wearing a jacket is too much.

It's a cooooool and windy 19° C in Dumfries and Galloway. My boss went to a wedding yesterday wearing a DashingTweed™ cloth suit.

Thanks for the warning, I've only seen the stuff on the website, but I did like the look of some of it.
My boss' suit already suffers from the little wear he got out of it and it shows what is called "pilling" under the arms.

If you really want to show off you need a pair of trews made from a very loud tartan:
