What Are You Wearing Today?

It's a British thing. Usually glued and fake leather, retails for £50 so very popular!

The original winklepickers were worn by the Teds in the 50s and they were a bit more pointed that those examples. They've been resurrected a few times by some punks and rock a billy's. There were some ladies shoes that had winklepicker credentials too in the 80s as I remember.

I had a colleague years ago who used to collect those Hamilton watches.

They do have a cult following, but the brand now is fully made in Switzerland and are owned by The Swatch Group. They still play on their American heritage. Some of the watches are reasonable and they do a lot for the price, but I think a lot of them look quite cheap up close.

That Ventura of mine lacks decent anti-reflection coating and the lizard leather strap isn't that high quality. It looks a bit plasticy up close.

They're a very mixed bag.

Replace with black knit tie, plain white bd not french cuffed striped shirt, and sharp creased charcoal flannels instead of whatever those are and you might have a nice Ivy-ish look. As it is it's a bit of a mishmash of styles.

I'm through with total Ivy. I'm a Fred Astaire man myself, mid-Atlantic.

My ex-colleague loved them and collected Bulova's too. Originals mind He was very knowledgable about 50s - 60s futuristic / spaced aged American design, Raymond Loewy and the like.

Some people collect those 19th century / early 20th century American railroad pocket watches Some are beautiful and made to a very high standard.

As for Ivy dressing, well, what is it? The term has become so elastic as to be essentially meaningless.

The railroad watches were some of the best watches ever made. The standard they achieved at the time was massively impressive.

They had to be, public safety was at stake. They had interesting safety features on them to stop the user from accidentally changing the time when they were winding the watch which could, and had, led to accidents.

The faces on many have a for want of a better term, Breguet like beauty to them.

It's not my particular cup of tea, but it's certainly not the end of the world.

Nothing but the end of the world is the end of the world. If that's how we're going to judge things on here we might as well end the forum. There's a certain bar you need to pass, might be a low one, but a bar nevertheless. Double knitwear unfortunately doesn't quite cut it.

Someone's being rather strident today. Bad day at the office?

Never go double knitwear.

Pthh.

Ever seen me snark? *snark face icon* or known as `the steely eyed stare'

Legend for THE FACE
1). when you see half a face it is snark time
2). when you see 1/3 of a face it means people start getting scared because bodies get slammed to the canvass.
3). when you see 1/4 of a face things are at it's worst because the price paid is very heavy.

when `The Face' turns up it means business!!!

1/3 face means this usually happens.

Picture `The Face' about to jump on this bloke below

and The Face throwing this bloke

AND when The Face is 1/4 this usually happens.

The Face may be sweet and innocent most of the time, but when the "snark face" comes onto the scene things start happening. Be careful of the "Snark Face" `Monkey Face', she can make people sting.

You're a spaghetti merchant mate, you know it, I know it. Same as your cloggie mate here down in Maastricht, you're just trolls with nothing worthwhile to say. But do please continue....

You skulk around here like some ringwraith in the dark, hiding your online status so you can hide in the shadows and pop out like some spaghetti jack-in-the-box. Cowardly.

Are you thick? You need to do some better research.

I don't need to do any research on that empty vessel.

Who is he? Too me he's just a internet gobshite, who's trolling me and taking the piss.

I take him at face value and there's nothing there worthwhile. Is he some kind of sartorial guru? I don't see it.

Yawn, you really are a one trick pony aren't you? Stuck in the same groove repeating stuff others have said ad infinitum.

Have you nothing to offer other than CAPITOL letters, some negative remarks and some teenage trolling?

Whoever you really are - whether that makes me thick or not - whatever snake oil your selling, or promoting wouldn't be for me. I don't care who you are, you have no status with me, other than internet troll and gobshite.

Are capitol letters somehow connected to Washington, D.C.?

I'm not tired, but I leave this forum, as quite clearly, posting gay porn to be used against a forum member is acceptable.
