What Are You Wearing Today?

Ah! Does it look tight in these areas? In fact, there is a lot of room there.

No. It's just to piss you off. The hips width seems good (not pockets opening) but the fall of the trouser (il piumbo) is not regular. Maybe the waist is a little bit too large. Difficult to judge.

Big pitch with some government types, so the startup teeshirt and hoody is discarded in favour of the bumfreezer tweed unjacket and drakes sackcloth tie
Looks like a Dropbear tweed.

(i.e. not a tweed).

Off to get me Grado cans fixed and needless to say the chaps in hi-fi shop were not impressed with my super-gluing skills:

I know. First time I met Cerrato I told him a width of 19 cms, but he insisted in 18 cms. I said ok. I have some Zegna that are 20 cms and I don't wear them because are too wide. I don't feel well. Maybe as I get older I'll go for 19 cms again, as were the trousers of my first suits. (I'm under 30 so 18 cms does't look too bad).

Wow. Back when I was more or less of your complexion (a little wider perhaps) I'd usually go for 21-22 cm, sometimes as much as 24. Judging by how 18 looks on you, I don't really think 20 would look that bad, as long as the trousers fit elsewhere.

Stop tying your tie like that. This is not fucking Styleforum.
I like that tie. Is it linen? I don’t mind that knot occasionally at all.i have some ties I need to double wrap 4 in hand and sometimes I go under the two wraps sometimes in between. No need to feel constrained by the reactionaries here.

I have to double wrap my Marinellas, they're really long

That is called Victoria knot, is pretty classic.

Worse are those tackys who like to show the narrow blade tip as the main one.

I never knew for what purpose is that.

I know on their histrionic mind they “want to show the world they know more, are more elegant and wiser because they have achieved to ridiculice one of the most formal garments as the tie is”

Or maybe is another signal of paraphilia as “I love two fist in"

It looks fucking shit and would probably barely exist at all if Spoo or some other once-regular poster hadn’t shown it on SF and had all the other regulars wanking all over him and copying the look.

“Hey look at me - I spent $4k on a bespoke suit and another grand on Vass shoes but somewhere along the line I never learned how to tie a tie properly. I just don’t care, I’m such a rebel I don’t even care if the back blade is longer than the front. Did I say ‘look at me’?”

My partner's father, who speaks little English, recently took me aside and manhandled me to ensure that my tie blade was in its keeper and hidden away (it was, I'm no iGent snob). I've always assumed he knows his stuff; this confirmed it.

I’ve noticed DW superstar *cough* ‘Craptom’ doing that side-by-side thing with his two tie blades. Another pile of shite. Just do it properly man and stop being such a spunktrumpet.

Gimme a break - its been around as long as ties have been worn and I was doing it before Spoo was born

So we have you to blame for this aberration?

Being able to see the inner wraps of a double four in hand adds absolutely nothing to a look besides pretentiousness. Most people get taught to tie a tie by their dads as little boys. It’s like tying shoes - once you know how to do it, just do it. There are many other ways you can show off your style and inventiveness. Tie knots is not one of them.

“...I don’t even care if the back blade is longer than the front...”

Thats exactly the problem I'm trying to solve! Other disagreeable options were a Windsor knot of some description or tucking the blade into shirt. Didn't think ties were alterable mind...

thanks, looked it up and it's a slub silk

Just remember tweed is casual, don't wear it to a meeting where you're going to see lots of suits

Tech is a real minefield for this sort of stuff. I can't go in 'business' wear as then I won't been seen as 'creative' enough. Back at the office I'm in jeans and a teeshirt else the engineers get freaked out. Out and about it's a shirt and jacket as it's fintech. Investors and customers (we partner with all the big4) don't want to see a suit (well I have a mid/light grey flannel I have worn to KPMG) but they aren't ready for the full zuckerberg just yet. Ditching the jeans for chinos and putting on tie is usually as formal as you'd want to go.

Jesus Christ - I'm not that uptight or that worried about my appearance. I get dressed. Look in the mirror. Change it if I'm not happy about the knot or etc. Or I don't even look in the mirror. I then get on with my day. The last thing I think about is people looking at my tie knot.

That’s fine. But it doesn’t take away from the fact that type of tie knot is hideous.

I've seen that tie style out in the real world a number of times, it doesn't offend. But having the narrow blade as the leader is a sprezza 4D chess move to far for me. Almost as bad as following Fred Astaire in wearing your ties as a belt.

Our offices are pretty much business casual sans tie now, as most of our clients are. It's a bad move, as you get wankers dressing with scuffed shoes and paisley shirts just to show that they're not working for the man and are somehow in the creative industries and not the hard sciences. It's easier to replace someone who dresses like shit with an Indian knowledge export, who also dresses like shit, then someone who dresses like a professional and for the gravitas of their position. You'll think at least twice before replacing them.

But then again, we have one office that has a tie rule, but they all wear the same company one day in day out. That's the uniform. So you have them all in cheap and nasty high nylon content shirts looking like plebs. Including the office manager.

It really shouldn't need to be a company policy, it should be automatic, but in these diminished times....
