What Are You Wearing Today?

This is the second picture today, after seeing one on SF, wherein I’ve noticed what looks like ONE button on a button down shirt fastened and the other collar side turned up.

I don’t know if this is some new ‘thing’, or maybe copying a trend spotted at the recent Pitti, or just a weird coincidence, but in any case it’s looks absolutely totally and utterly fucking ridiculous.

If I ever saw someone doing that in real life, provided I’d managed to dissuade myself from kicking their stupid fucking face off, I wouldn’t notice anything else about anything else they were wearing, my thoughts would be clouded by the reflexive instinctual belief that they were worthless and pathetic useless fucking arseholes.

So - don’t do that.

Ever.

Again.
Chill. It is a running gag at this point, since it gets a rise out of a lot people on this forum. The unbuttoned button-down collar is something I do very rarely in real life, save for that day when I really don’t like how my collar rolls buttoned. (In which case, it is genuinely the less fussy option, as it saves me from spending too much time in front of the mirror.)

But now that you have put it this way, I’ll make sure to do the ridicule and leave precisely ONE button undone, whenever possible, on the photos I post here.

Horses for courses.

YMMV.

NVM.

exactly the reason I'm wearing it unbuttoned today and not just for the photo.
also the reason I'm not buying anymore OCBD's from this brand. I'll go find some cheap shirtmaker and have them copy my Mercer collars.

You should try the old half button undone - where half the button poked though the hole. That will confuse The Grey Nurse

I was reading about MMM's works last night, and those painted GAT replicas are the epitome of his genius. I actually had a similar idea of pairing MMM with SS, but I think they are two completely different concepts. SS to me is soft and romantic whereas MMM is sterile and ideological.

I always liked that film because they wore good suits and had a great looking office. Look!

I always wanted a high rise office like this with an open fire and old money office. No ducted heating! I'd pay an employee just to keep the fire going during winter.

And of course a huge office chair like this:

I used to have a MASSIVE office chair once. When l sat in it you couldn't even see the top of my head. It was about 4 foot wide with huge fins. It looked really powerful and nice, but it was a pain in the backside.

It was full-on Brooks Brothers in a lot of those films in the early to mid-80s. Quite a tonic against the American Gigolo look. You hardly could get it anywhere in the UK, other than a few items in Austin Reed and if you knew of him, one of John Simons stores.

Class from 1983 was another good one. But I seem to remember the scene where they buy clothes in the apartment store, it's Burberry stuff that's bought.

A completely different psychic topography back then. We've come a long way and lost much in the intervening years.

I think gold buttons on the blazer and an off-white turtle neck would be a huge improvement here
I concur on the buttons; I could never quite warm up to these MOP ones. I’ll get a set of the alma mater when I’m back in NYC. I do love this sweater, though.

That being said, I’d still like to get a cream cashmere turtleneck. Very soon, I hope.

Looks like a summer blazer worn with a winter sweater. Foul look all around. Changing buttons may help, but there is no changing the tissue. Better to start over with a proper winter blazer.

I tailored this jacket myself by hand. it was quite ill fitting to start with so I'm happy with the results, though I wish it had wider shoulders.

Lowered the right shoulder, removed shoulder pads, reset the sleeves with slight roping and correct pitch, let out the seat and shortened the body. Needs sleeves shortened a bit too but I'm waiting to see how far the accordion effect goes (tweed really does wrinkle...)

Also re-rolled the lapels so they roll softly to the middle button (this is a hard 3)

A cotton tennis sweater is not a winter sweater, and as you’ve said changing buttons doesn’t change the seasons.

Gracefully, I live in a part of the world where we don’t have to bother with such dreadful notions as the change of seasons. So it doesn’t really matter! Cheers!
