I'm iffy on the high collar of the sweater with the low henley neck. I can't help but think that cardigans look better with collared shirts or that the sweater might pair better with pants that are not blue, but I'm being hyper-criticial here. I can't say that it doesn't work. The boots do add necessary color.

This is all correct, but it's still miles ahead of where he was with his casual wear.

What would you recommend instead of the cardigan?

I do need to add some casual shirts... but I hate button downs...

I would go for a wool/cashmere blend crewneck sweater with some sort of patern and no t-shirt underneath. V neck sweater also looks good.

I used ot have this one and I would wear it with pretty much anything and it would always look good no matter the occasion.

When it comes to polo shirts I usually go for Ted Baker or Fred Perry, fit well and last long enough. Button downs Zegna Sport, Ted Baker, or Etro, but then again those are unshirts.
 
Question, when wearing jeans and a shirt… when do you know you need to tuck it in? I read on SF that sometimes it's not a good look to tuck in your shirt with jeans.
 
Betel, I don't think that there's any hard and fast rule, apart from one - you shouldn't tuck in a t-shirt. [Although, having said that, there's a probably a photo of James Dean or Marlon Brando looking cool with a tucked-in t-shirt.]

Some shirts, particularly those with shorter hems, look good untucked; other shirts, including those with regular shirt hems (ie the scalloped hems that you see on the bottom of business shirts) often look better tucked-in.
 
Oh, I did not specify well but yeap I was talking about dress shirts not t-shirts or polos. So for casual "dress" shirts I need them to be completely round at the bottom like the Henley?
 
I think WvG and Epaulet shirts are cut on the shorter side, so they would work untucked. Also Rag & Bone, A.P.C, BoO all are cut to be worn untucked.

Curved hem works too, but too exaggerated.

that kind of sweater looks most horrible
sweaters without visible collars underneath are horrible in general imo
it is very russian to wear sweaters with nothing underneath
