Agreeable Menswear Post Of The Day

The crisp bright spread collars against wrinkled linen always throws me.
Am I the only one finding somehting very odd in the angle or proporion of that gorge and lapel peak ?
I'm always a bit ambivalent with linen jackets/suits - some say a crisp white shirt looks best, and it certainly can give a great touch, yet its also easy to see a similar rumpled casual linen shirt works. Linen is about the only suit I wear without a tie. And even then not much at all. If I had a more casual unstructured cotton suit I might try that sans tie but I so far have stuck to ties with my cotton suit.

I think in real life all 3 would look pretty good. I prefer the top one least purely because I don't like plain sportscoats that aren't blazers. Hopefully up close it has more texture but from what I can see it looks to be something like fresco (which I associate with suiting).

When do we stop being young kids? After our first gray pubic hair? Seems like a good cut off. Maybe a tad conservative.

The guy is probably in the mid-20s. Possible that he has had a job requiring a tie. Probably doesn't require close up head shots with sunglasses on in the evening though.

they go gray before the hair on your head does?

The left most fellow has hips and doesn't benefit from natural shoulders on his jackets. The middle Viking's build is more suited to that.

I don't know why fellows with "milk bottle shoulders" wear jackets with natural shoulders. Those narrow sleeves with flat crown always look a bit lifeless as well.

Yeah he is generally pretty sharp I think but those cotton un-structured coats do nothing for him. Something like this (from his IG) is much more flattering. Think he part owns a menswear store in S

weden or something.

still very estro-boy body
some iron would help
would also force him to re-do his wardrobe though

What's with the gorge sitting on top of the shoulders? I mean, there's high, and then there's stratospheric. Is it an igent thing, like a circle-jerk around a Belgian loafer at Pitti, last one to spooz has to drink the contents of the shoe?

The overall impression is pleasing, but I'm not keen on patch pockets on a pinstripe suit, and plastic buttons? I mean, how much would it cost to chuck those out and get a few real horn ones sewn on?

A nice look from JustinKapur

Yes, the patch pocket pinstripe is a very odd combination, but then again, he often wears very odd combinations.

Yes design elements questionable. I found the colours agreeable as compared to what he normally wears

Definitely agree with that, the colours work really well.

I should have said as much in the original post that it was about colour. He generally has - in my opinion - colour, pattern and texture that clashes. Rarely does he have a coherent look, at least to me.

Prime example of someone following "rules" or what has been gleaned from SF without a true sense of style. Nothing organic.

No, the opposite. He isn't following any rules, and refuses to take criticism, which results in those train wrecks. If he followed the rules for a while and learned why they exist, his fits would be in a much better state than they are now.

True that he refuses to really take any suggestions criticism to heart. I saw your recent exchange with him.

Again, my language is imprecise today. What I mean to say is that he feels he has learned enough of the rules to break the rules without demonstrating that he actually knows the basics.

Ah, when you put it that way, I agree.

You can't tell the gorge height by the angle of the photograph and the buttons may be corozo and not plastic. Now to the real issues:

- Patch pocket with business pinstripe is incongruous
- Shirt pattern doesn't really work with such a formal suit fabric. Whole thing is just too busy
- Pocket square is a bit much and out there when a simple white linen PS would suffice

I realise that the angle can create a misleading impression. But seriously, wtf? Looked at from this angle the gorge starts above the base of the tie knot. It's possible that it might have started out life at nipple height, but I seriously doubt it.

As for the buttons, someone's gone to an awful lot of trouble to make that fine, natural corozo look like plastic.

Taking pics at an angle probably around the torso with both hands raised isn't what you would use to be conclusive about gorge height. There are other objective issues with what he wore but let's just move on.
